개화결실촉진처리가 달피나무의 소지생장에 미치는 효과에 관한 결과 (Effects of Flowering and Fruiting Stimulatory Treatments on Twig Growth of Tilia amurensis R$_{UBP}$.)

  • This study was aimed to investigate the effect of several stimulatory trements of flower and seed growth on the reproductive and vegetative growth of Tilia amurensis RUBP. The effects of mounded planting, girdling, root-pruning, bending and foliar fertilizer application on the fifteen to forty yead-old tress growing in the experimental plantation at the Konkuk University and the National forest at the Daegwanryung were measured. The following results were obtained: (1) The number and the longitydinal growth of internode were reduced by the treatments. The xylem growth of the longitudited more greatly than the bark growth by all the treatments. (2)The increasong rate of the brand angle as compared to that of the control was 2.11% in the girdling treatment, 31.61% in the mounded planting treatment, and 22.14% in root-pruning treatment. (3) The foliar application of fertilizer(N, P, K, and B) before flowering increased leaf and stem growth, that one after pollen fertilization increased the fruit growth. (4)The foliar application of fertilizer before flowering increased the xylem growth while that after pollen fertilization increased the bark growth. (5)The stimulatory effects of root pruning and branch bending on the flowering and seed growth were shown relatively less than that of mounded planting. The effect of the moinded planting on the yield of the seeds has remained continuously every year since planting the trees.

한의학 고문헌 분석을 통한 무궁화의 약용부위와 기대효능 연구 (Study on the Medicinal Parts and Expected Efficacys of the Hibiscus syriacus by Literature Review on the Classics of Oriental Medicine)

  • Hibiscus syriacus is rarely used herb. For finding up new applications of this herb, the medicinal parts and expected efficacys that recorded in 24 classics of oriental medicine were inquired. As a result of the literature review, medicinal parts and expected efficacys of Hibiscus syriacus were as follows: The medicinal parts were mainly flower and bark. But the root, branch, leaf and fruit were mentioned too. Some unidentified medicinal parts seemed to be branch or bark. The mentioned symptoms that prescribed Hibiscus syriacus are intestinal 'wind', red-white dysentery, thirst with fever after dysentery, insomnia, 'wind' syndrom, leukorrhea, regurgitation, etc. And this herb was mentioned that applied externally for scabies, hemorrhoids, prolapse of the rectum, headache, extracted tooth, etc. Therefore, bleeding intestinal diseases, insomnia, vaginal or uterine hemorrhage(for internal use), scabies or mycosis, hemorrhoids. anal fistula, prolapse of the rectum, headache(for external use) were presented as expected efficacys of Hibiscus syriacus. In future, studies for verifying the efficacys are needed.

Litterfall and Nutrient Dynamics in Pine (Pinus rigida) and Larch (Larix leptolepis) Plantations

  • Litterfall and nutrient inputs were measured in even-aged coniferous plantations (a 31-year-old Pinus rigida and a 31-year-old Larix leptolepis) on a similar site condition in the Forest Practice Research Center, Gyeonggi Province. Litterfall was collected monthly from circular littertraps (collecting area: $0.50m^2$) for three years between April 1997 and February 2000. Average total annual litterfall was significantly higher for pine (5,802 kg/ha/yr) than for larch (4,562 kg/ha/yr) plantations. Needle litter in both plantations accounted for about 63% of total litterfall. Litterfall in the larch was distributed as follows: needle > other leaf > branch > miscellaneous > bark, while it was needle > miscellaneous > other leaf > branch > bark in the pine plantation. There was no temporal variation in needle litter, other leaf and bark during the 3 year study period. The concentrations of all nutrients (N, P, K, Ca, Mg) in needle litter were significantly higher in the larch than in the pine plantations. The annual nutrient concentration of needle litter in the larch varied among the years, whereas no year variation of needle litter was in the pine except for phosphorus (P). Nitrogen (N) and P inputs by needle litter were significantly higher for larch than for pine plantations established on a similar soil. The differences in N and P inputs were attributed to lower nutrient concentration in pine needle litter compared with larch needle litter, not to total needle litter mass. Annual inputs of nutrient in both plantations were not significantly different among years except for K of the larch although there was yearly different in needlefall mass and nutrient concentration during the 3-year observed period. The results indicate that the mechanisms of litterfall and nutrient inputs vary considerably between pine and larch plantations established on a similar site condition.

Carbon Storage in Aboveground, Root, and Soil of Pinus densiflora Stand in Six Different Sites, Korea

  • Due to the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and global warming, the importance of forest ecosystems, as a place of carbon accumulation and emission, has received a great amount of recognition lately. This study was performed to help understand and provide the current status of carbon cycle in the pinus densiflora stand, Korea. The samples were collected from average 35-years-old Pinus densifiora rands in Gongju, Youngdong, Chungsan, Muju, Mupung, and Jangsu regions. Total thirty aboveground sample trees were cut, and ten roots were sampled, and soil samples were collected. Average carbon concentrations in foliage, branch, stem bark, stem wood, and root were 55.7%, 56.0%, 56.0%, 57.3%, and 56.5%, respectively. Carbon content was estimated by the model $Wt=aD^b$ where Wt is oven-dry weight in kg and D is DBH in cm. Total carbon content (aboveground and root) was 42.39tonC/ha in the Pinus densiflora stand. The proportion of each tree component to total carbon content was high in order of stemwood, root, branch, stem bark, and foliage. Total net primary production (aboveground and root) was estimated at 6.51tonC/ha/yr in Pinus densiflora stand. The proportion of each tree component to total net primary carbon content was high in order of sternwood, root, branch, foliage and stembark. Soil carbon contents in the study sites was 43.51tonC/ha at 0-50cm soil depth.

무주지역 리기다소나무 임분의 지상부 바이오매스 추정 (Aboveground Biomass Estimation of Pinus rigida Stands in Muju Region)

  • 본 연구는 전북 무주지역 36년생 리기다소나무 임분을 대상으로 지상부 바이오매스 추정식을 개발하고, 줄기밀도와 바이오매스 확장계수를 산출하고자 하였다. 리기다소나무의 흉고직경을 독립변수로 하고 바이오매스를 종속변수로 하는 상대생장식을 추정한 결과, 잎 (78%)과 가지 (83%)를 제외하면 모든 부위에서 결정계수가 95% 이상의 높은 설명력을 나타냈다. 리기다소나무의 바이오매스량은 줄기 목질부 $65.9 Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 줄기 수피 $9.5Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 가지 $19.6Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 잎 $7.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 전체 $102Mg\;ha^{-1}$로 나타났으며, 바이오매스 구성비는 줄기목질부 (64.6%) > 가지 (19.2%) > 줄기 수피 (9.3%) > 잎 (6.9%) 순으로 나타났다. 리기다소나무의 줄기밀도 $(g/cm^{3})$는 0.453으로 나타났고, 바이오매스 확장계수는 1.344로 나타났다.

Biocontrol Effect of Gliocladium virens G1 and Soil Amendment on Astragal Stem Rot Caused by Rhizoctonia solani

  • In order to find an environment-friendly method to suppress astragal stem rot caused by the isolates of Rhizoctonia solani AG 1 and AG 4, we tested an antagonistic fungus Gliocladium virens G1 was evaluated as a biocontrol agent and estimated inorganic compounds and organic materials were tested for their effect of the disease suppression. G. virens G1 effectively inhibited mycelial growth in a dual culture and caused mycelial lysis in the culture filtrate. No adverse effect was observed when examined for seed germination and seedling growth. Promoted seedling growth was observed with the seed treatment. Seeds of astragal plant were germinated higher in the sterile soil than the natural soil. Of 14 inorganics tested, alum, aluminum sulfate and calcium oxide significantly suppressed the mycelial growth and sclerotial germination. Milled pine bark and oak sawdust also suppressed the mycelial growth. Soil amended with 1% of G. virens G1 composted with pine bark (w/v) significantly controlled astragal stem rot in the glasshouse experiments.

편백(扁柏) 유령(幼齡) 인공림(人工林)의 임령(林齡)에 따른 물질생산(物質生産) 및 무기양료(無機養料) 분배(分配) (Biomass, Net Production and Nutrient Distribution Related to Age of Young Chamaecyparis obtusa Plantations)

  • 전남 순천시 모후산지역의 순천대학교 연습림에 식재되어 있는 6, 9, 14, 20년생 등 4개 편백 유령 임분을 대상으로 줄기의 목질부, 수피, 가지, 고사지, 잎, 뿌리 등 임목 각 기관의 물질생산과 N, P, K, Ca, Mg 등의 무기양료 분배를 조사분석하였다. 편백림은 경사도, 토양수분, 토양의 화학적 특성 등의 지형 및 토양 조건에 따라 흉고직경과 수고 성장에 큰 차이가 있었다. 경사가 완만하고 토양조건이 양호한 14년생과 20년생 임분의 임목 전체 현존량은 각각 96.2, 145.0t/ha이었으며, 순생산량은 각각 22.4, 23.5t/ha/yr이었다. 경사가 급하고 토양조건이 불량한 6년생과 9년생 임분의 현존량은 각각 0.7, 14.0t/ha이었으며, 순생산량은 각각 0.3, 4.7t/ha/yr이었다. 임령이 많아짐에 따라 축적기관인 줄기의 목질부와 가지의 현존량과 순생산량 구성비는 증가하는 반면, 생산기관인 잎의 현존량과 순생산량 구성비, 뿌리의 현존량 구성비는 감소하는 경향을 보임으로써, 임령에 따라 물질생산 분배에 차이가 있었다. 무기양료의 농도는 N, P, K, Mg는 잎이 가장 높았으며, Ca의 경우 수피가 가장 높았다. 임령이 많아짐에 따라 수피, 가지, 고사지, 뿌리의 N 농도와 가지의 K 농도는 감소하는 반면, 수피의 Ca 농도는 증가하였다. 임목 전체의 무기양료 함량은 N, K, Ca, Mg, P의 순으로 많은 경향이었으며, 온대 침엽수림의 평균치에 비하여 K 함량은 높은 반면, Ca 함량이 낮은 특성을 보였다.

경남 산청지역 리기다소나무림의 지상부 바이오매스와 순생산량 추정 (Estimation of Aboveground Biomass and Net Primary Production for Pinus rigida in Sancheong, Gyeongnam Province)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 경남 산청 지역에 분포하는 40년생 리기다소나무 임분을 대상으로 지상부 바이오매스와 순생산량에 대하여 분석하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결과에 의하면, 지상부 바이오매스량은 $127.7Mg\;ha^{-1}$으로 나타났고, 줄기 $103.1Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 가지 $17.2Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 잎 $7.4Mg\;ha^{-1}$으로 나타났으며, 바이오매스 함량은 줄기목질부 (71.1%) > 가지 (13.5%) > 줄기 수피 (9.6%) > 잎 (5.8%) 순으로 나타났다. 또한 지상부 순생산량은 $10.4Mg\;ha^{-1}$로 나타났고 줄기 $3.6Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 가지 $2.2Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 1년생 소지 $1.3Mg\;ha^{-1}$, 잎 $2.8Mg\;ha^{-1}$로 나타났다. 순생산량 함량은 줄기 목질부 (34.6%) > 잎 (26.9%) > 가지 (21.2%) > 소지 (12.5%) > 줄기 수피 (4.8%) 순으로 나타났다.

수피${\cdot}$돈분 부산물 비료의 부숙단계별 분광학적 특성 변화 (Changes in Spectroscopic Characteristics of Bark and Piggery Manure By-Product Composts During the Composting)

  • 본 연구는 수피 부산물 비료의 돈분 부산물 비료의 부숙단계별 시료의 유기물 분획의 함량 변화, ${\Delta}log$ K값과 RF값 등의 분광학적 특성 변화, 원형여지 chromatograp의 변화를 측정하여, 부숙도의 판정 기준 설정을 위한 기초 자료로 활용하는데 그 목적이 있다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 수피와 돈분 부산물빌 중 HA-C와 FA-C의 함량은 대체로 부숙이 진행됨에 따라 감소하는 경향이었고, HA-C/FA-C 비는 증가하였다. 수피와 돈분 부산물 비료의 ${\Delta}log$ K값은 부숙이 진행됨에 따라 감소하였으며, RF값은 증가하였다. 생수피의 부식산 형태는 $R_p$ 형태였으나, B형태를 거쳐 120일경과 후 A형태로 변화하여 거의 완숙상태에 도달하였으며, 돈분 부산물 비료의 경우 40일경과 후에도 B형태로 나타나 유기물질의 부숙이 진행중인 것으로 판단되었다. 수피부산물 비료의 원형여지 chromatograph는 120일경과 후에 규칙적인 톱니 모양을 하고 있어 완숙단계에 이른 것으로 판단할 수 있었으나, 돈분 부산물의 경우는 40일이 경과한 후에도 부분적으로 불규칙적인 모양을 하고 있어 부숙이 진행되고 있는 상태인 것으로 판단할 수 있었다.

Impact of Transplanting on Tree Growth and Compartmentalization of Pruning Wounds in Acer palmatum Thunb

  • The objective of this study was to examine the impact of pruning (P treatment) and transplanting (T treatment) of Acer palmatum on cambial growth and compartmentalization of pruning wounds for one year after treatments. Changes of cambial electrical resistance (CER), sizes of pruning wounds, cambial growth of trunks and stems near the wounds, and total phenols at branch unions during the period were examined using a total of 49 trees. After harvesting, areas of discolored wood behind the wounds, relative proportions of extractives, holocellulose and lignin at branch unions were also determined. CER and the cambial growth of trunk at 30 cm above the ground (TGR) were inversely correlated, and differences of CER and TGR among three treatments were significant. TGRs of control, P treatment and P+T treatment after the treatments were 112.2%, 72.4% and 52.5% of the annual growth for the year before the treatments, respectively. The cambial growth rate of stem (SGR) at 1.5 cm above the branch bark ridge and the closure rate of pruning wound (WCR) for one year after treatments were positively correlated, and WCR of P treatment of 39.8% was significantly higher than that of P+T treatment of 31.8%. Wounds of P+T treatment formed greater discolored area per unit area of pruning wound (D/W Ratio) than those of P treatment significantly. Lower WCR and higher D/W Ratio of P+T treatment suggested less ability of compartmentalizing the wounds than P treatment. Total phenols at branch core of pruning wound for both treatments heightened a month after treatment, and then lowered. The contents at below core of the wound were higher than those at control ones continuously, while they became similar each other at above core. Relatively high phenol contents of the extractives at P+T treatment implied that trees with P+T treatment allocated more energy to compartmentalize their wounds. Holocellulose and lignin contents at the branch core of treated branch unions of both treatments were lower and higher, respectively, than at the same part of the union with living branch, as results of the tree reaction to protection from wounding and microbial invasion.
