This study is to develop a Fe-based disc brake lining with sponge structure for rolling stock of 150km/h train and to concept design with 3 groove type for brake disc reducing hot hair-crack and certainly friction coefficient. The developing brake lining would be to presumption of saving 300 million won during one year
In this study, experimental and theoretical methods were applied to understand brake squeal noise VVVF rolling stock on tracks. Trailer cars needed to payed a particular attention, because they were the major source of brake noise. VVVF rolling stocks for lines no 1 of the subway system in Seoul were used for experimental analyses. In order to study brake squeal noise, a dynamometer test at the S&T Brake, Co., which was a manufacturer of brake pads had performed. For measuring vibration and noise, vibration tests of brake parts (brake lining, brake lining head, back plates, etc.) at the SNUT were executed. Also, vibration tests of disc assembly and lining block at the heavy maintenance shop of the Gunja depot were performed. The modal analyses by using an ANSYS which was one of the CAE commercial program were simulated to know the relationship to the mechanism of brake noise. On the based of the tests and the simulations it was found that specific frequencies of the brake parts affected squeal noise, and improvements for reducing squeal noise were proposed.
This paper theoretically analyzed the relations between the out-put braking torque and the wheel cylinder pressure in the leading-trailing drum brake for heavy duty truck as the characteristics of friction in break lining, comparing with the results derived from full-scale inertial brake dynamometer test in actual braking condition to develop reliable brake system in extensive using conditions. The main results obtained are as follows; 1) The characteristic curve representing the relations between BEF (Brake Effectiveness Factor) and Friction coefficient derived from theoretical analysis are consistent with the experimental results of dynamometer test. 2) According to the results of dynamometer test, the friction coefficient of brake lining is subject to initial brake speed and the actual using temperature in brake system.
Objectives: This paper was prepapred to report airborne asbestos fiber concentrations in asbestos textile, brake-lining, commutator, and building materials manufacturing industries, and some other asbestos related industries in Korea from 1994 to 2006. Methods: Airborne asbestos data that have been sampled and analyzed in the above industries during 1994-2006 were collected. These data were reviewed to scrutinize the qualified data based on the records such as sampling and analyzed method and quality control procedures. All asbestos data were generated using the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) Method 7400. Results: Average concentration of asbestos fiber was 2.14 fibers/cc(0.02-15.6 fibers/cc) in the asbestos textile industry, 0.26 fibers/cc(0.01-1.01 fibers/cc) in the building-materials industry, 0.15 fibers/cc(0.01-0.93 fibers/cc) in the brake-lining manufacturing industry, and 0.14 fibers/cc(0.03-1.36 fibers/cc) in the commutator producing industry. For these industries, the percentage of samples of which asbestos fiber concentrations above the limit of exposure(0.1 fibers/cc) was 97.6% in the asbestos textile industry, 62.3% in the building-materials industry, 53.5% in the brake-lining manufacturing industry, and 34.3% in the commutator producing industry. Asbestos fiber concentration was below the limit of exposure in the gasket producing, petrochemistry, musical instrument producing industries, and the brake-lining exchange operations. Conclusions: Airborne asbestos fiber level in the asbestos textile, brake-lining producing, commutator and building-material producing industries was above the limit of exposure, but in the gasket producing, petrochemistry, musical instrument producing industries and the brake-lining exchange operations were below the limit of exposure.
The purpose of this paper is to study and analyze the improvement method for the failure examples including the vehicle brake system in actual field. It was verified that the indicator plate of pad wear scratched the brake disk because of wearing after displacement of non- identification parts pad. The caliper of other vehicle was installed with brake system verified the phenomenon produced groove in center point because of one side wear when the pad was not fully contacted with the rub disk by other action surface pressure and pad action condition. It verified that the crack phenomenon fatigue was produced by brake thermal deformation because of decreasing the thickness by grinding to modify the non-uniformed wear of brake disk. It verified that the friction sound was produced by the friction phenomenon because of non-uniformed contact of lining and an alien substance with inner of the drum and lining braking by crack phenomenon with brake drum surface.
This study was performed to evaluate the worker exposure to asbestos fibers in automobile repair shop and brake lining store from August 11 to October 21, 1988. In addition, the exposure of general population near the brake lining store was also evaluated. Results of this study were as follows. 1. Worker exposure level to asbestos fibers in automobile repair shop was 0.1 fibers/cc, well below the Korean standard of 2 fibers/cc, and a half of the U.S. standard of 0.2 fibers/cc. 2. Average worker exposure level to asbestos fibers in brake lining store was 0.35 fibers/cc, which was within the Korean standard of 2 fibers/cc, but exceeded the U.S. standard of 0.2 fibers/cc. 3. Worker exposure levels during the removal of brake dust with the compressed air blowing and the dry brushing were approximately 4 fibers/cc and 0.2 fibers/cc, respectively. During grinding of brake linings with sand paper, asbestos exposure level was 0.3 fibers/cc. 4. Ambient asbestos concentrations outside the brake lining store were 0.1 fibers/cc at the distance of 3-4 m, and 0.01 fibers/cc at the distance of 30 m.
Numerical simulation is conducted to clarify the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of brake disk-lining for rolling stock. Multiple rotational reference frame, k-epsilon turbulent model and SIMPLE algorithm based on finite volume method are used to solve the physical disk-lining model. The governing equations are solved by TDMA(TriDiagonal Matrix Algorithm) with line-by-line method and block correction, From the results of simulation, the characteristics of cooling pattern is strongly affected by the grooves in lining. The face lift of lining affects on the temperature distribution of rear surface of lining as well as the front surface of that. Due to the grooves in lining, it will be expected to extend the maintenance life circle of lining.
An experimental investigation was conducted to examine the tribological behavior of NAO (non-asbestos organic) type brake linings containing different volume ratios of graphite and antimony trisulfide (Sb$_2$S$_3$). In order to investigate the effect of the solid lubricants on brake performance, three different friction tests (pressure, speed, and temperature sensitive tests) were carried out using a scale dynamometer. The test results showed that the friction characteristics were strongly affected by the type and the amount of solid lubricants in the brake lining. It was found that the brake linings with both solid lubricants were better in friction stability due to the complementary role of the two disparate lubricating properties at various pressure and speed conditions. In particular, the brake lining containing higher concentrations of graphite showed better fade resistance than others during high temperature friction test.
The inter-laboratory comparison test which is demanded on the authorized test of ISO/IEC 17025 is the program to guarantee the confidence of test result. This paper, as a part of the inter-laboratory comparison test between South Korea and China, is refered to the characteristic of friction coefficient of disk brake lining for rolling stock according to disk type. Brake tests were carried out under constant brake force and operating sequence by using dynamo-tester according to disk and disk lining types. To establishing the confidence of test result, we calculated A type uncertainty about friction coefficient and investigated the factors about the variation of friction coefficient.
Automotive NVH on brake operation is mainly caused by a coupling action of vehicle speed and inter parts friction and its frequency occurs over a broad band of 0.1 kHz~10 kHz. Especially, squeal noise, being a self-excited vibration generated by friction force between drum and lining, occurs over 1 kHz and consequently dynamic instability is induced when friction energy is applied to a brake vibration system. The squeal strongly depends on nonlinear properties influenced by the material of lining, velocity of vehicle, and the dynamic properties of a brake system. The dynamic properties are considered as a main influential design factor to squeal noise, however the analysis of the properties are rarely facilitated due to arbitrariness of shape by wearing down. In this paper, we research generating tendency of squeal noise through complex eigenvalue analysis, tracking drum brake's unstable modes in accordance with the wear shape of drum and lining such as tapered and bellmouth shape, and analyze computed unstable modes by variable shapes.
