Background and objective: This study verified the physiological and psychological effects of plant fragrance therapy to analyze whether the therapy has a forest healing effect on maladjusted soldiers. Methods: This study was conducted from March 14 to May 31, 2020 according to the Green Camp curriculum for 2 weeks per recruit class. Thus, plant fragrance therapy was implemented twice each for three recruit classes. Each session of the program was carried out for 4 hours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The venue was the garden within the camp and the forest nearby. Forest healing activities using plant fragrances were led by 1 forest education specialist and 1 assistant. The effects of plant fragrance therapy for maladjusted soldiers were analzed analyzed by quantifying physiological and psychological changes through measuring brain waves and stress levels before and after the therapy. Results: As a result of analyzing BRQ and SQ to determine the physiological and psychological healing effect of plant fragrance therapy, both the left and right brain showed higher BRQ and SQ after the therapy with statistical significance. This indicates that plant fragrance therapy on maladjusted soldiers helped positively stabilize their negative psychological and behavioral dispositions, and stabilization of brain waves lowered physical and mental stress and improved self-regulation and immunity. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in ATO. This is the result of analyzing the stress-coping mechanism. Troubleshooting (t = -2.702, df = 61, p = .009), emotional remission (t = -2.173, df = 61, p = .034), pursuit of help (t = -3.286), df = 61, p = .002), and wishful thinking (t = -3.714, df = 61, p < .001) showed statistically significant results. Conclusion: Applying plant fragrance therapy to maladjusted soldiers positively stabilized their negative psychological and behavioral dispositions and helped their self-regulation. Thus, plant fragrance therapy has psychological and physical forest healing effect on maladjusted soldiers.
This study attempted to analyze human brain responses toward visual content through EEG signals and intended to measure brain wave reactions of different age groups to determine the sexuality level of the media. The experimental stimuli consist of three different video footage (rated ages 12, 15, and 18) to analyze how subjects react in situations where they actually watch sexual content. For measuring and analyzing brain wave reactions, EEG equipment records alpha, beta, and gamma wave responses of the subjects' left and right frontal lobes, temporal lobes, and occipital lobes. The subjects of this study were 28 total and they are divided into two groups. The experiment configures a sexual content classification scale with age or gender as a discriminating variable and brain region-specific response frequencies (left/right, frontal/temporal/occipital, alpha/beta/gamma waves) as independent variables. The experimental results showed the possibility of distinguishing gender and age differences. The apparent differences in brain wave response areas and bands among high school girls, high school boys, and college students are found. Using these brain wave response data, this study explored the potential of developing algorithm for measurement of age-specific responses to sexual content and apply it as a film rating.

There are many researches related on the brain wave signals to monitor the state of human health. Especially, some patients in the medical hospital need to be monitored in case of emergencies such as a seizure, an epilepsy and so on. To support QoS of the brain wave network in the hospital is a vital issue and the Opnet simulator is used for this experiment. So the efficient network topology is required for the stability of the brain wave network service. The brain waves of the patients are collected from the sensor devices in the network. Two different sensor network topologies are suggested and simulated for the comparison of the network performance. One topology is localized and the other is non-localized network. The simulation is operated with the Opnet simulator.
PURPOSE. This pilot study was to find the influence of complete denture on the brain activity and cognitive function of edentulous patients measured through Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The study recruited 20 patients aged from 50 to 60 years requiring complete dentures with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The brain function and cognitive function were analyzed with a mental state questionnaire and a 15-minute analysis of power spectral density of EEG alpha waves. The analysis included edentulous phase and post denture insertion adaptive phase, each done before and after chewing. The results obtained were statistically evaluated. RESULTS. Power Spectral Density (PSD) values increased from edentulous phase to post denture insertion adaption phase. The data were grouped as edentulous phase before chewing (EEG p1-0.0064), edentulous phase after chewing (EEG p2-0.0073), post denture insertion adaptive phase before chewing (EEG p3-0.0077), and post denture insertion adaptive phase after chewing (EEG p4-0.0096). The acquired values were statistically analyzed using paired t-test, which showed statistically significant results (P<.05). CONCLUSION. This pilot study showed functional improvement in brain function of edentulous patients with complete dentures rehabilitation.

In this study, the psycho-physiological response of drivers was investigated in terms of EEG(Electroencephalogram), especially with the fractal dimensions computed by Chaotic algorithm. The Chaotic algorithm Is well Known to sensitively analyze the non-linear information such as brain waves. An automobile with a fully equipped data acquisition system was used to collect the data. Ten healthy subjects participated in the experiment. EEG data were collected while subjects were driving the car between Won-ju and Shin-gal J.C. on Young-Dong highway The results were presented in terms of 3-Dimensional attractor to confirm the chaotic nature of the EEG data. The correlation dimension and fractal dimension were calculated to evaluate the complexity of the brain activity as the driving duration changes. In particular, the fractal dimension indicated a difference between the driving condition and non-driving condition while other spectral variables showed inconsistent results. Based upon the fractal dimension, drivers processed the most information at the beginning of the highway driving and the amount of brain activity gradually decreased and stabilized. No particular decrease of brain activity was observed even after 100 km driving. Considering the sensitivity and consistency of the analysis by Chaotic algorithm, the fractal dimension can be a useful parameter to evaluate the psycho-physiological responses of human brain at various driving conditions.
This study divided elementary school 6th graders of into a higher academic achievement group (n=19) and a lower academic achievement group (n=19) in order to examine the tendency of left and right hemisphere preferences, characteristics and relationships of learning ability factors by means of EEG. For this purpose, brain waves in performing higher cognitive tasks for 5 min. were measured with a two-channel (Fp1, Fp2) EEG measurement system and hemisphere preference was measured by means of a questionnaire. Our results were as follows. First, hemisphere preference indicated that the higher group showed a left hemisphere tendency and the lower group indicated a right hemisphere tendency. Second, the first learning ability test found that the higher group performed its task rapidly with higher levels of concentration and cognitive strength and lower loading and the lower group conducted its task more slowly with lower levels of concentration and cognitive strength and higher loading. The second test showed that the higher group performed its task rapidly with lower levels of concentration.
This paper describes a basic study for the classification of cognitive mental states as a basic research of a human-computer interface technique. To recognize the mental states, we obtained 22 subjects’brain waves in course of two types of experiments. One of the experiments is to choose an answer among yes, no or reject buttons, to underlying questions and the other is to select an icon displayed in a monitor screen. After acquiring the brain wave signals, we construct a feature set with the percent power increase for a given segment with respect to that of the reference period. The linear discriminative algorithm is used to classify the cognitive yes/no mental states.
Aroma inhalation therapy has traditionally been used not only in alternative medicinal treatment but also in psychotherapy. In the first stage of the study, the in silico molecular binding affinity of the major ingredients of Smart-Wave (SW) on the active site of the odorant-binding protein (OBP) was compared with that of citrate anions. The binding affinity of the chemical mixture formula of the major ingredients of SW on the OBP was relatively higher than that of citrate anions. In addition, nasal inhalation of SW had a positive effect upon changes in brain waves. Eighteen healthy volunteers participated in the experiment. The study consisted of measurements of the brain’s meditation level recordings in the pre- and post-SW inhalation periods as compared with negative (EV) and positive (HB) control groups. After SW inhalation, all the subjects stated that they felt “fresher” and that the SW trial group had significantly changed the brain’s meditation in a positive way. SW inhalation also converted EV-induced unstable brain meditation wave patterns into more stable patterns. Collectively, the results of this empirical study strongly suggest that the SW mixture activates the OBP and controls the mental state by regulating brain waves. The results provide scientific evidence that the SW formula has potential as an effective mental-stress controller.
As smartphone usage has increased recently, so has smartphone addiction. Many of the smartphone users, however, do not even recognize the risk of smartphone addiction. In this experiment, smartphone users have been categorized into two groups by smartphone addiction measure (S-measure) developed by 2011 National Information Society Agency (NIA): A high risk group and a normal group. The changes of brain waves have been observed when the subjects were watching emotional videos of anger, sadness, happiness, and fear. The results show that the values of FP1 and FP2 (frontal lobe) theta band of the high risk group have been measured to be high, which indicate anxiety disorder. Although happiness and fear videos showed no difference between these groups, sadness and anger videos showed significantly different results for these groups: the brain waves of the high risk group showed higher values than those of the normal group. Therefore, this experiment showed that the high risk group takes feelings of sadness and anger more sensitively than the normal group.
