라벤더향이 수면질이 좋은 남자 성인과 수면질이 나쁜 남자 성인의 뇌파에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Lavandula angustifolia aroma on electroencephalogram in male adults with good sleep quality and poor sleep quality)

  • 본 연구는 라벤더(Lavandula angustifolia)향이 성인 남자의 뇌기능에 미치는 효능을 살펴보기 위해 뇌파 변화를 살펴보았다. 라벤더향이 감성에 미치는 효과에 대한 연구는 주로 여자를 대상으로 한 연구가 많고 남자를 대상으로 한 연구가 거의 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 신체적으로 건강한 20대 남자 성인(35명)을 대상으로 피츠버그 수면질 지수를 통하여 수면질을 조사하여 실험군과 대조군의 좋은 수면질과 나쁜 수면질의 네 군으로 분류하였다. 뇌파 전극을 10-20 국제법에 의하여 전두부(F3, F4), 측두부(T3, T4), 후두부(O1, O2), 두정부(P3, P4)에 부착하고 라벤더 향기요법 전 3분, 향기요법 중 3분, 그리고 향기요법 후 3분씩 나누어서 뇌파 검사를 시행하였다. 결과에서 수면질이 좋은 군에 라벤더향이 뇌파에 미치는 영향은 양쪽 대뇌반구의 두정부에서 델타파를 증가시키고 오른 대뇌반구 측두부에서 세타파를 증가시키며, 양쪽 대뇌반구의 두정부에서 알파파를 감소시켰다(p<0.05). 또한 라벤더향은 수면질이 나쁜 군의 왼 대뇌반구의 전두부에서 델타파와 양쪽 대뇌반구의 전두부에서 세타파를 증가시켰다(p<0.05). 결론적으로 라벤더향은 수면질이 좋은 남자 성인에서 각성 상태에 관련된 뇌파를 감소시키면서 수면 상태에 관련된 뇌파는 증가시키는 효능이 있었고, 수면질이 나쁜 남자 성인에서는 수면 상태에 관련된 뇌파를 증가시키는 효능이 있었다.

우울증 유발 생쥐에서 온담탕가오약(溫膽湯加烏藥)의 항우울 효과 (Anti-Depressive Effects of OnDam-Tang with Addition of Linderae Radix (ODT-L) after Chronic Immobilization Stress in C57BL/6 Mice)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the anti-depressive effects of OnDam-Tang with addition of Linderae Radix (ODT-L) on the animal model of depression induced by chronic immobilization stress. Depression model was made by chronic immobilization stress for 2 hours for 21 days. And we performed forced swimming test, analysis of the neurotransmitter and immunohistochemical staining, measured expression levels of serotonin in the brain. ODT-L has decreased immobilization time in forced swimming test. ODT-L has increased amount of melatonin in the brain. ODT-L has increased expression levels of serotonin in the brain. ODT-L prevented damage in the hippocampal region. ODT-L has reduced the expression level of CRF receptors in in hippocampus region. These results suggest that ODT-L may have anti-depressive effects on depression.

AUDIT-K 척도에 따른 뇌 이랑 부위의 확산텐서 비등방도 측정값 분석 (Analysis of Fractional Anisotropy Measurements of Diffusion Tensor Images in the Gyrus of the Brain by AUDIT-K Scale)

  • AUDIT-K 척도에 따른 중년남성을 대상으로 뇌 회백질의 손상 유무를 파악 할 수 있는 확산텐서영상을 검사하여 영상을 획득 한 후 Tract-Based Spatial Statics(TBSS)방법으로 뇌 회백질 부위의 이랑(Gyrus) 신경 섬유로의 비등방도 FA(fractional anisotropy)값을 측정 분석한 결과 모든 영역에서 정상 음주자가 알코올 사용 장애 추정자보다 FA값이 낮게 측정되었으며 통계적으로 유의하였다. 본 연구의 측정한 FA결과 값으로 추측하자면 즉, 알코올 사용이 뇌 회백질 부위의 이랑(Gyrus) 계측한 해부학적 미세 구조성 변화에 크게 영향을 미치며 신경 섬유로를 손상시키고 이와 관련된 기능적 이상에 영향을 준다고 할 수 있다.

Video and Film Rating Algorithm using EEG Response Measurement to Content: Focus on Sexuality

  • This study attempted to analyze human brain responses toward visual content through EEG signals and intended to measure brain wave reactions of different age groups to determine the sexuality level of the media. The experimental stimuli consist of three different video footage (rated ages 12, 15, and 18) to analyze how subjects react in situations where they actually watch sexual content. For measuring and analyzing brain wave reactions, EEG equipment records alpha, beta, and gamma wave responses of the subjects' left and right frontal lobes, temporal lobes, and occipital lobes. The subjects of this study were 28 total and they are divided into two groups. The experiment configures a sexual content classification scale with age or gender as a discriminating variable and brain region-specific response frequencies (left/right, frontal/temporal/occipital, alpha/beta/gamma waves) as independent variables. The experimental results showed the possibility of distinguishing gender and age differences. The apparent differences in brain wave response areas and bands among high school girls, high school boys, and college students are found. Using these brain wave response data, this study explored the potential of developing algorithm for measurement of age-specific responses to sexual content and apply it as a film rating.

CAD for Detection of Brain Tumor Using the Symmetry Contribution From MR Image Applying Unsharp Mask Filter

  • Automatic detection of disease helps medical institutions that are introducing digital images to read images rapidly and accurately, and is thus applicable to lesion diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this study was to apply a symmetry contribution algorithm to unsharp mask filter-applied MR images and propose an analysis technique to automatically recognize brain tumor and edema. We extracted the skull region and drawed outline of the skull in database of images obtained at P University Hospital and detected an axis of symmetry with cerebral characteristics. A symmetry contribution algorithm was then applied to the images around the axis of symmetry to observe intensity changes in pixels and detect disease areas. When we did not use the unsharp mask filter, a brain tumor was detected in 60 of a total of 95 MR images. The disease detection rate for the brain was 63.16%. However, when we used the unsharp mask filter, the tumor was detected in 87 of a total of 95 MR images, with a disease detection rate of 91.58%. When the unsharp mask filter was used in the pre-process stage, the disease detection rate for the brain was higher than when it was not used. We confirmed that unsharp mask filter can be used to rapidly and accurately to read many MR images stored in a database.

성인 뇌와 유아 뇌 모델의 진동 특성 해석 (Analysis of the Vibratory Characteristic of the Adult's and Baby's Brain Model)

  • 머리(뇌 포함) 부분에 대한 3차원 유한 요소 모델을 이용하여 진동 방향에 따른 응답특성을 해석하였다. 해석 결과 성인의 뇌는 9Hz, 14Hz에서 고유 진동수를 나타내었으며 유아의 뇌에서는 2Hz, 3Hz에서 고유 진동수가 계산되었다. 진동 방향에 관계없이 각 진동에 대해 계산된 가속도를 제외한 전단력, 압력, von-Mises 값의 최대, 최소값의 비는 성인에 비해 유아모델에서 더 크게 나타났다. 각 고유 진동수에서 성인모델은 14Hz에서 상지 중추보다 하지 중추를 관장하는 뇌의 영역에서 보다 큰 응력이 계산되어 상지에 의한 오동작 보다 하지에 의한 오동작을 일으킬 가능성이 더 큼을 유추할 수 있었다.

  • The measurement of pathologically low levels of tissue $pO_2$ is an important diagnostic goal for determining the prognosis of many clinically important diseases including cardiovascular insufficiency, stroke and cancer. The target tissues nowaday have mostly been tumors or the myocardium, with less attention centered on the brain. Radiolabelled nitroimidazole or derivatives may be useful in identifying the hypoxic cells in cerebrovascular disease or traumatic brain injury, and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. In acute stroke, the target of therapy is the severely hypoxic but salvageable tissue. $^{18}F-MISO$ PET and $^{99}mTc-EC-metronidazole$ SPECT in patients with acute ischemic stroke identified hypoxic tissues and ischemic penumbra, and predicted its outcome. A study using $^{123}I-IAZA$ in patient with closed head injury detected the hypoxic tissues after head injury. Up till now these radiopharmaceuticals have drawbacks due to its relatively low concentration with hypoxic tissues associated with/without low blood-brain barrier permeability and the necessity to wait a long time to achieve acceptable target to background ratios for imaging in acute ischemic stroke. It is needed to develop new hypoxic marker exhibiting more rapid localization in the hypoxic region in the brain. And then, the hypoxic brain imaging with imidazoles or non-imidazoles may be very useful in detecting the hypoxic tissues, determining therapeutic strategies and developing therapeutic drugs in several neurological disease, especially, in acute ischemic stroke.

계배 뇌 발생에 있어서 신경세포의 Acid Phosphatase 변화에 관한 효소화학적 연구 (A Cytochemical Study on the Acid Phosphatase of Neurons of Developing Chick Embryo Brain)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differentiation and degeneration of neurons in developing chick embryo. The activity of acid phosphatase(ACP) was measured and cytochemical study of ACP and ultrastructural changes were observed in prosencephalon, mesencephalon and rhombencephalon from day 4 to day 19 of incubation. As a result, the activity of ACP of all brain region was tend to increase from day 4 to day 19. On day 13, activities of ACP of mesencephalon and rhombencephalon were increased greatly and activity of ACP was decreased each region on day 17. On electron microscopic examination, the reaction product of ACP were localized at GERL complex, lysosome, Golgi body and vacuoles of neurons. Morphologically, disrupted nuclear envelope, mitochondrial destruction, vacuolization and ribosomal crystalization were observed.

Over-Expression of Ephrin-A5 in Mice Results in Decreasing the Size of Progenitor Pool through Inducing Apoptosis

  • Eph receptors and their ligands, ephrins, mediate cell-to-cell contacts in a specific brain region and their bidirectional signaling is implicated in the regulation of apoptosis during early brain development. In this report, we used the alpha(${\alpha}$)-Cre transgenic line to induce ephrin-A5 over-expression in the distal region of the neural retina. Using this double transgenic embryo, we show that the over-expression of ephrin-A5 was responsible for inducing massive apoptosis in both the nasal and temporal retinas. In addition, the number of differentiated retinal neurons with the exception of the bipolar neuron was significantly reduced, whereas the laminar organization of the mature retina remained intact. Consistent with this finding, an analysis of the mature retina revealed that the size of the whole retina-particularly the nasal and temporal regions-is markedly reduced. These results strongly suggest that the level of ephrin-A5 expression plays a role in the regulation of the size of the retinal progenitor pool in the neural retina.

뇌조직 CT 영상의 자동영상분할 (Automatic Image Segmention of Brain CT Image)

  • In this paper, brain CT images are automatically segmented to reconstruct the 3-D scene from consecutive CT sections. Contextual segmentation technique was applied to overcome the partial volume artifact and statistical fluctuation phenomenon of soft tissue images. Images are hierarchically analyzed by region growing and graph editing techniques. Segmented regions are discriptively decided to the final organs by using the semantic informations.
