  • For high-speed railways (HSR) in wind prone regions, wind barriers are often installed on bridges to ensure the running safety of trains. This paper analyzes the effect of wind barriers on the running safety of a high-speed train to cross winds when it passes on a bridge. Two simply-supported (S-S) PC bridges in China, one with 32 m box beams and the other with 16 m trough beams, are selected to perform the dynamic analyses. The bridges are modeled by 3-D finite elements and each vehicle in a train by a multi-rigid-body system connected with suspension springs and dashpots. The wind excitations on the train vehicles and the bridges are numerically simulated, using the static tri-component coefficients obtained from a wind tunnel test, taking into account the effects of wind barriers, train speed and the spatial correlation with wind forces on the deck. The whole histories of a train passing over the two bridges under strong cross winds are simulated and compared, considering variations of wind velocities, train speeds and without or with wind barriers. The threshold curves of wind velocity for train running safety on the two bridges are compared, from which the windbreak effect of the wind barrier are evaluated, based on which a beam structure with better performance is recommended.

  • In an apartment house that is generally air-tight and well insulated, the combustion gas from cooking devices is the major source of air pollution in the kitchen. It spreads throughout the house affecting the overall Indoor all quality. In this study, the performance of the kitchen range hood which employs air induction and air curtain was investigated by numerical simulation. The results are compared with that of two other kitchen range hoods which are in general use. The two general types of range hoods considered in the present calculations are box and plate type range hoods. The former has a large capture space between the filter and suction duct, while the latter has little. It was found that the capture efficiency of the kitchen range hood with air induction and air curtain Is higher than that of the general types of range hoods by 20% approximately The reason may be because the air induction and the air curtain block the air stream escaping from the front and the side part of range hoods effectively and because an additional fan for air induction and air curtain increases suction flow rates.

  • This study was carried out to examinate the effect of aging period on chromatic, chemical and organoleptic characteristics, and to evaluate of optimum aging period for each grade in burley leaf tobacco. The leaf tobaccos were produced in 2000, and threshed, redried and packed in carton box under the current methods. Four grades of processed leaf(A3T, B1T, C1W and D3W) were stored during 24 months (May 10, 2001 to April 31, 2003) in warehouse of Chungju Leaf Tobacco Processing Factory. The leaf tobaccos were sampled at three month intervals for analysis of chromatic, chemical and organoleptic properties. pH values of four grades, and Yellow(b) of A3T and BIT were also significantly decreased during the aging. Filling values, tar, nicotine and CO contents of tobacco smoke, and puff number of cigarettes were not significantly changed during the aging. Positive correlation coefficients were significantly observed between irritation of the calculated attributes from contents of volatile oil components in leaf tobacco and that of the panel sensory attributes. The ratio of maximum change in irritation attribute was larger than that in taste attribute during aging. The calculated irritations of 18~24 months aging for A3T and B1T were significantly lower than zero-aging, while those of C1W and D3W were not significant among aging periods. The panel irritations of 12~15 months aging for four grades were low tendency. The results suggest that decrease of aging period for thin leaf from 21~24 to 12~15 months may be beneficial to save storage cost in burley tobacco.

The leaf tobaccos were produced in 2000, and threshed, redried and packed in carton box under the current methods. Four grades of processed leaf(A3O, B1O, C1L and D3L) were stored during 24 months(May 10, 2001 to April 31, 2003) in warehouse of Chungju Leaf Tobacco Processing Factory. The leaf tobaccos were sampled at three month intervals for analysis of chromatic, chemical and organoleptic properties. Yellow(b), pH values and total sugar contents of four grades were significantly decreased during the aging. Filling values, tar, nicotine and CO contents of tobacco smoke, and puff number of cigarettes were not significantly changed during the aging. Positive correlation coefficients were significantly observed between taste and irritation of the calculated attributes from contents of volatile oil components in leaf tobacco and those of the panel sensory attributes. The ratio of maximum change in taste attribute was larger than that in irritation attribute during aging. The optimum aging periods estimated by taste for A3O, B1O, C1L and D3L were 17.8, 14.9, 10.8, and 9.8 months, respectively. The thin leaf(Primings and Cutters) undergo satisfactory aging earlier as compared to bodied leaf(Leaf and Tips). The results suggest that decrease of aging period for thin leaf from 18~21 to 9~12 months may be beneficial to save storage cost in flue-cured tobacco.

  • Many of crimes are solved by the report of people. Therefore, countries pay compensation to crime reporter. However, the current system of compensation is focused on the report of criminal fact and criminals arrest, so that there is no compensation on the providing evidence. On the other hand, since the current judicial system adopted the principle of trial by evidence, all the facts are made by the evidence. But it is impossible to obtain all the evidence only by law enforcement agencies. Therefore, it is necessary for people to report the evidence positively. So it is necessary to positively take advantages of smart phones, vehicle black boxes and cctvs. Various incentives such as compensation would be needed to require the evidence of smartphone or black box, cctv. In order to strengthen evidence report, it will be needed the legislation of crime report compensation, smartphone apps development including the provision of various incentives.

  • This study evaluated and compared the effectiveness on upper motor extremity function between proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation which has been frequently used in clinical practice, and action observation training in terms of improving upper motor extremity function. A study with a single-subject design (A-B-C-A') was conducted with a patient who was diagnosed with left hemiplegia. A repeated-measure analysis was conducted to assess results of the Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT), Box and Block Test (BBT), and grip and pinch strength test performed daily in the study for 4 weeks. The results of the analysis indicated that the WMFT score, BBT score, grip strength, and pinch strength were improved from 29.60 to 39 (24.10%), from 1.67 to 4.93 each (EA) (66.22%), from 2.06 to 2.66 libras (lbs) (22.61%), and from 1.57 to 1.93 lbs (18.94%), respectively, from the baseline period to treatment period B. The values were improved from 29.60 to 42.20 (29.86%), from 1.67 to 7 EA (76.21%), from 2.06 to 3.47 lbs (40.57%), and from 1.57 to 1.67 lbs (6.12%), respectively, from the baseline period to treatment period C. From treatment period B to treatment period C, the WMFT score, BBT score, and grip strength were improved from 39 to 42.20 (7.58%), from 4.93 to 7 EA (29.56%), and from 2.66 to 3.47 lbs (23.20%), respectively, but pinch strength was decreased from 1.93 to 1.67 lbs (15.83%). In conclusion, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and action observation training both have positive effects on upper extremity motor function. However, we suggest that the posttreatment effect of action observation training was better than that of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation.

  • In this study, the properties of super flowing concrete containing fly ash were experimentally investigated and compared with those of ordinary concrete. Tests were carried out on five types of super flowing concrete mixes containing fly ash and three types of ordinary concrete mixes without fly ash. Flow test, 0-funnel test, box test, L type test and slump test were carried out to obtain the properties for flowability and workability of fresh concrete. The mechanical properties of hardened concrete were also investigated in terms of compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, creep and drying shrinkage. In fresh concrete, it was found that super flowing concrete had excellent workability and flowability compared with ordinary concrete, and had self-compactable performance. Super flowing concrete *also had good mechanical properties at both early and late ages with compressive strength reaching as high as 40 MPa at 28 days. The creep deformation of super flowing concrete investigated was relatively lower than that of ordinary concrete, but drying shrinkage was much higher.

  • Superconductor material $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$(Bi-2223) powders were synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. It is clear that Bi-2223 phase more than Bi-2212 phase was acquired at sufficient synthesized time. Best condition for Bi-2223 phase was synthesizing temperature at $860^{\circ}C$. We also investigated the effects for concentrations and viscosities of starting liquid precursor as well as temperature distribution of reacting furnace. The size of synthesized powder was decreased by decreasing the concentration of starting liquid precursor. Modified reacting furnace with four different temperature heating zones gave us successful results for desirable nano-powder including $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$ phase. Citric acid addition to starting liquid precursor showed increasing of the size for synthesized powder. Bi-2223 single phase was acquired from Bi2223 and Bi-2212 mixed phases through heat treatment in box furnace at 24 hours.

  • Sulfur-containing amino acids play important roles in good flavor generation in Maillard reaction of non-enzymatic browning, so aqueous model systems of glucosamine and cysteine were studied to investigate the effects of reaction temperature, initial pH, reaction time, and concentration ratio of glucosamine and cysteine. Response surface methodology was applied to optimize the independent reaction parameters of cysteine and glucosamine in Maillard reaction. Box-Behnken factorial design was used with 30 runs of 16 factorial levels, 8 axial levels and 6 central levels. The degree of Maillard reaction was determined by reading absorption at 425 nm in a spectrophotometer and Hunter's L, a, and b values. ${\Delta}E$ was consequently set as the fifth response factor. In the statistical analyses, determination coefficients ($R^2$) for their absorbance, Hunter's L, a, b values, and ${\Delta}E$ were 0.94, 0.79, 0.73, 0.96, and 0.79, respectively, showing that the absorbance and Hunter's b value were good dependent variables for this model system. The optimum processing parameters were determined to yield glucosamine-cysteine Maillard reaction product with higher absorbance and higher colour change. The optimum estimated absorbance was achieved at the condition of initial pH 8.0, $111^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature, 2.47 h reaction time, and 1.30 concentration ratio. The optimum condition for colour change measured by Hunter's b value was 2.41 h reaction time, $114^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature, initial pH 8.3, and 1.26 concentration ratio. These results can provide the basic information for Maillard reaction of aqueous model system between glucosamine and cysteine.
