  • Several methods for PCB pattern inspection have been tried to detect fine detects in pad contours, but their low detection accuracy results from pattern variations originating from etching, printing and handling processes. The adaptive inspection algorithm has been newly proposed to extract minute defects based on movable segments. With gerber master images of PCB, vertex extractions of a pad boundary are made and then a lot of segments are constructed in master data. The pad boundary is composed of segment units. The proposed method moves these segments to optimal directions of a pad boundary and so adaptively matches segments to pad contours of inspected images, irrespectively of various pattern variations. It makes a fast, accurate and reliable inspection of PCB patterns. Its performances are also evaluated with several images.

  • The method of endowing the controller with the strengthened robustness within the boundary layer is presented for controlling the uncertain nonlinear systems in which the variations of the uncertainties are slow. From this controller, the width of the boundary layer where the robust control input is smoothened out can be given by an appropriate value but a better control performance within the boundary layer can be achieved without the control chattering because the role of adaptive control is to compensate for the uncovered portions of the robust control occurred from the continuous approximation within the boundary layer.

  • An approach to control the position for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) based on an adaptive integral binary observer is described. The binary controller with a binary observer is composed of a main loop regulator and an auxiliary loop regulator. One of its key features is that it alleviates chatter in the constant boundary layer. However, steady state estimation accuracy and robustness are dependent upon the thickness of the constant boundary layer. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer and eliminate the chattering problem of the constant boundary layer, a new binary observer is formed by adding extra integral dynamics to the existing switching hyperplane equation. Also, the proposed adaptive integral binary observer applies an adaptive scheme because the parameters of the dynamic equations such as the machine inertia and the viscosity friction coefficient are not well known. Furthermore, these values can typically be easily changed during normal operation. However, the proposed observer can overcome the problems caused by using the dynamic equations, and the rotor position estimation is constructed by integrating the rotor speed estimated with a Lyapunov function. Experimental results obtained using the proposed algorithm are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

  • Numerical prediction of the diffusion controlled transition in a turbine gas pass is important because it can change the local heat transfer rate over a turbine blade as much as three times. In this study, the gas flow over turbine blade is simplified to the flat plate boundary layer, and an adaptive grid scheme redistributing grid points within the computation domain is proposed with a great emphasis on the construction of the grid control function. The function is sensitized to the second invariant of the mean strain tensor, its spatial gradient, and the interaction of pressure gradient and flow deformation. The transition process is assumed to be described with a κ-ε turbulence model. An elliptic solver is employed to integrate governing equations. Numerical results show that the proposed adaptive grid scheme is very effective in obtaining grid independent numerical solution with a very low grid number. It is expected that present scheme is helpful in predicting actual flow within a turbine to improve computation efficiency.

  • Adaptive mesh refinement scheme is incorporated with the boundary element analysis in order to get accurate solution with relatively fewer unnowns for magnetostatic field analysis. A new andsimple posteriori local error estimate is also presented. The local error is defined as an integraktion over the element of the difference between solutions from quadratic interpolation functions and linear interpolation functions and is used as the criterion for mesh refinement. Case study with a singular point reveals that adaptive meshes are more efficient in accuracy of solutions than uniform meshs generated by dividing al the elements evenly. The adaptive meshes give much better rate of convergence in global errors than the uniform meshes.

  • A new adaptive dual reciprocity boundary element method for dynamic analysis of 3-D structures is presented in this paper. It is based on finding the best approximation function of a radial basis function (RBF) group $f=r^n+c$ which minimize the error of displacement field expansion. Also, the effects of some parameters such as the existence of internal points, number of RBF functions and position of collocation nodes in discontinuous elements are investigated in this adaptive procedure. Three numerical examples show improvement in dynamic response of structures with adaptive RBF in dual reciprocity with respect to ordinary BEM.

  • In this paper, the robust control scheme with the improved control performance within the boundary layer is proposed. In the control scheme, the robust controller based on the traditional variable structure control method is modified to have the adaptation within the boundary layer. From this controller, the width of the boundary layer where the robust control input is smoothened out can be given by an appropriate value. But the improved control performance within the boundary layer can be achieved without the so-called control chattering because the role of adaptive control is to compensate for the uncovered portions of the robust control occurred from the continuous approximation within the boundary layer Simulation tests for circular navigation of an underwater wall-ranging robot developed for inspection of wall surfaces in the research reactor, TRIGA MARK III, confirm the performance improvement. • To transmit MPEG-2 video on an erroneous channel, a number of error control techniques He needed. Especially, error concealment techniques which can be implemented on receivers independent of transmitters are essential to obtain good video quality. In this paper, a motion adaptive boundary matching algorithm (MA-BMA) is presented for temporal error concealment. Before carrying out BMA, we perform error concealmmt by a motion vector prediction using neighboring motion vectors. If the candidate of error concealment is rot satisfied, search range and reliable boundary pixels are selected by the motion activity or motion vectors ane a damaged macroblock is concealed by applying the MA-BMA. This error concealment technique reduces the complexity and maintains PSNR gain of 0.3 0.7dB compared to the conventional BMA.
