A Numerical Analysis on the Motion of a Curved Bileaflet in Mechanical Heart Valve(MHV) and the Characteristics of Blood Flow in an Elastic Blood Vessel (탄성혈관 내 곡면형 이엽 기계식 인공심장판막의 거동 및 혈액 유동 특성에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • In this study, a numerical analysis has been performed for a three-dimensional pulsatile blood flow associated with the elastic blood vessel and curved bileaflet for multiple cycles in terms of fluid-structure interaction. Here, blood has been assumed as a Newtonian, incompressible fluid. Pressure profiles have been used as boundary conditions at the ventricle and the aorta. From this analysis, the motion of the leaflet has been observed with fluttering phenomenon and rebound, and the flow fields of blood have been obtained with recirculation and regurgitation. The results can contribute to the development of design methodology for the curved bileaflet mechanical heart valve.

Numerical Study on Transient Aerodynamics of Moving Flap Using Conservative Chimera Grid Method (보존적 중첩격자기법을 이용한 동적 플랩의 천이적 공력거동에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • Transient aerodynamic response of an airfoil to a moving plane-flap is numerically investigated using the two-dimensional Euler equations with conservative Chimera grid method. A body moving relative to a stationary grid is treated by an overset grid bounded by a 'Dynamic Domain Dividing Line' which has an advantage for constructing a well-defined hole-cutting boundary. A conservative Chimera grid method with the dynamic domain-dividing line technique is applied and validated by solving the flowfield around a circular cylinder moving supersonic speed. The unsteady and transient characteristics of the flow solver are also examined by computations of an oscillating airfoil and a ramp pitching airfoil respectively. The transient aerodynamic behavior of an airfoil with a moving plane-flap is analyzed for various flow conditions such as deflecting rate of flap and free stream Mach number.

  • In this study, we attempted to quantify the relative importance of assumptions regarding blood rheology. Three patient-specific carotid bifurcation geometries and time-varying flow rates were obtained using magnetic resonance imaging. For each subject, CFD simulations were carried out assuming two different non-Newtonian rheology models (Carreau and Ballyk models) and rescaled Newtonian viscosities based on characteristic shear rates to account for the shear-thinning property of blood. The sensitivity of WSS and oscillatory shear index (OSI) were contextualized with respect to the reproducibility of the reconstructed geometry and to assumptions regarding the inlet boundary conditions. We conclude that the assumption of Newtonian fluid is reasonable for studies aimed at quantifying the distribution of WSS-based extrema in an image-based CFD model of carotid bifurcation.

Basic characteristics of wind-blown kiwifruit vines (키위나무의 바람에 대한 특성연구)

  • Kiwifruit vines with broad leaves are easily torn or shed by high-speed wind. In this study, the threshold wind speed at which a cane is broken was investigated experimentally with varying physical parameters of a kiwifruit vine under two different ABL (atmospheric boundary layer) conditions. In addition, the temporal variation of wind-blown young canes was visualized using a high-speed camera. The average threshold wind speeds for ABL types A and B are about 20.5 m/s and 18.9 m/s, respectively. A wind-blown young cane takes periodic up-and-down motion when it is broken off. The mean motion frequency of young canes of the kiwifruit vines was found to be about 4.5Hz.

  • Vibration characteristics of laminated circular cylindrical shells are investigated using a theoretical procedure developed in the previous papers. Numerical results are presented for a family of graphite-epoxy cylindrical shells with layers of angle-ply and cross-ply laminated either symmetrically or antisymmetrical about the shell middle surface. Effects of the different shell boundary conditions and geometries, as well as number and angle of orientation of the lamina, on the natural frequencies are also demonstrated.

  • In this investigation, we studied the wake interactions incurred by two nearby spheres at Re=300. We considered all possible arrangements of the two spheres in terms of the distance between the spheres and, the angle inclined with respect to the flow direction. It turns out that significant changes in shedding characteristics are noticed depending on how the two spheres are positioned. In this study, not only quantitative changes in the key physical parameters such as force coefficients and shedding frequencies, but also qualitative changes in shedding patterns are analyzed and reported.

  • Heat trnasfer for absorbing and emitting media in laminar layer along the cylinders has been analyzed. Governing equation are transformed to local nonsimilarity equations by the dimensional analysis. The effects of the Stark number, Prandtl number, Optical radius and wall emissivity are mainly investigated. For the formal solution a numerical integration is performed and the results are compared with those obtained by P-1 and P-3 approximation. The results show that boundary layers consist of conduction-convection-radiation layer near the wall and convection-radiation layer far from the wall. As the Stark number of wall emissivity increases the local radiative heat flux is increased. The Pradtl number or curvature variations do not affect the radiative heat flux from the wall, but The Prandtl number or wall emissivity variations affect the conduction heat flux. Consequently the total heat flux from the wall are affected by the Prandtl number or wall emissivity variation.

  • Characteristics of thermal flow stratification were studied experimentally by using the small scale pressurizer-surge line model. Thermal flow stratifications in the horizontal section of surge line were analyzed by the relation between the maximum temperature difference at any cross section in surge line and the Froude number representing the boundary conditions, i.e., in/out surge flow velocity and temperature difference of system. Thermal flow stratifications in outsurge flow decreased inversely proportional to the Froude number and did not exist for Fr>1. In insurge flow thermal flow stratifications disappeared near Fr=1.5, but resulted in the higher temperature difference than the case of outsurge flow.

  • The present numerical study investigates flow characteristics and heat transfer enhancement of the viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct. The combined effect of temperature-dependent viscosity, buoyancy and secondary flow caused by second normal stress difference are all considered. The Reiner-Rivlin model is used as a viscoelastic fluid model to simulate the secondary flow and temperature-dependent viscosity model is adopted. Three types of thermal boundary conditions involving different combinations of heated walls and adiabatic walls are considered in this study. Calculated Nusselt numbers are in good agreement with experimental results in both the thermal developing and thermally developed regions. The heat transfer enhancement can be explained by the combined viscoelasticity-driven secondary flow, buoyancy-induced secondary flow and temperature-dependent viscosity.

  • This research is for finding prototypes and characteristics of intonation found in ${\ulcorner}$-a/e, $t{\int}ijo$<${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$p/simnida${\lrcorner}$ among modern Korean predicate statements by constructing spoken corpus based on the current radio broadcast. So the result of the study is as follows. : (1) The construction of the balanced spoken corpus and the standard for boundary determination of rhythm are needed for the intonation model of speech synthesis. (2) Korean intonation units have the splited word tone which includes the nuclear tone and the pre-nuclear tone makes unclear tone more detailed. (3) I made man and woman intonation models individually through t-test of SPSS. (4) The standard intonation model is devided '-ajo'type and '-nida'type
