In this paper, a fast sphere decoder is proposed for the joint detection of phase-shift keying (PSK) signals in uncoded Vertical Bell Laboratories Layered Space Time (V-BLAST) systems. The proposed decoder, PSD, consists of preprocessing stage and search stage. The search stage of PSD relies on the depth-first branch-and-bound (BB) algorithm with "best-first" orders stored in lookup tables. Simulation results show that the PSD is able to provide the system with the maximum likelihood (ML) performance at low complexity.

In this paper amplitude and phase distortion of the received signal through a fading channel results in a severe performance degradation of the communication system, Therefore we consider the variance of the maximum a posteriori phase estimate of sinusoidal signal by the Cramer-Rao bound in wireless fading channel. To find the Cramer-Rao lower bound for the variance of the phase, We use the derived probability density function(pdf) of the phase in Nakagami fading channel. We analyze the error performance of modulation signals using order statistics on generalized combining reception and find adequate diversity branch number.

LDPC(Low Density Parity Check) codes are described by bipartite graphs with bit nodes and parity-check nodes. Tanner derived minimum distance bounds of the regular LDPC code in terms of the eigenvalues of the associated adjacency matrix. In this paper we generalize the Tanner's results. We derive minimum distance bounds applicable to both regular and blockwise-irregular LDPC codes. The first bound considers the relation between bit nodes in a minimum-weight codeword, and the second one considers the connectivity between parity nodes adjacent to a minimum-weight codeword. The derived bounds make it possible to describe the distance property of the code in terms of the eigenvalues of the associated matrix.
In this study, the effects of filler particle size and shape on the physical properties of silicone rubber composites were investigated using inorganic fillers (Minusil 5, Celite 219, and Nyad 400) except silica, which was already present as a reinforcing filler of silicone rubber. Fillers with small particle sizes are known to facilitate the formation of the bound rubber by increasing the contact area with the polymer. However, in this experiment, the bound rubber content of Celite 219-added silicone composite was higher than that of Minusil 5-added silicone composite. This was attributed to the porous structure of Celite 219, which led to an increase in the internal surface area of the filler. When the inorganic fillers were added, both thermal decomposition temperature and thermal stability were improved. The bound rubber formed between the silicone rubber and inorganic filler affected the degree of crosslinking of the silicone composite. It is well-known that as the size of the reinforcing filler decreases, the reinforcing effect increases. However, in this experiment, the hardness of the composite material filled with Celite 219 was the highest compared to the other three composites. Furthermore, the highest value of 2.19 MPa was observed for 100% modulus, and the fracture elongation was the lowest at 469%. This was a result of excellent interaction between Celite 219 filler and silicone rubber.

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a core enzyme of the aerobic glycolytic pathway with versatile functions and is associated with cancer development. Recently, Kornberg et al. published the detailed correlation between GAPDH and di- or monomethyl fumarate (DMF or MMF), which are well-known GAPDH antagonists in the immune system. As an extension, herein, we report the crystal structure of MMF-bound human GAPDH at $2.29{\AA}$. The MMF molecule is covalently linked to the catalytic Cys152 of human GAPDH, and inhibits the catalytic activity of the residue and dramatically reduces the enzymatic activity of GAPDH. Structural comparisons between $NAD^+$-bound GAPDH and MMF-bound GAPDH revealed that the covalently linked MMF can block the binding of the $NAD^+$ cosubstrate due to steric hindrance of the nicotinamide portion of the $NAD^+$ molecule, illuminating the specific mechanism by which MMF inhibits GAPDH. Our data provide insights into GAPDH antagonist development for GAPDH-mediated disease treatment.
There is an increasing interest in passive safety systems to minimize the need for operator intervention or external power sources in nuclear power plants. Because a passive system has a weak driving force, there is greater uncertainty in the performance compared with an active system. In previous studies, several methods have been suggested to evaluate passive system reliability, and many of them estimated the failure probability using thermal-hydraulic analyses and the Monte Carlo method. However, if the functional failure of a passive system is rare, it is difficult to estimate the failure probability using conventional methods owing to their high computational time. In this paper, a procedure for the application of the Chernoff bound to the evaluation of passive system reliability is proposed. A feasibility study of the procedure was conducted on a passive decay heat removal system of a micro modular reactor in its conceptual design phase, and it was demonstrated that the passive system reliability can be evaluated without performing a large number of thermal-hydraulic analyses or Monte Carlo simulations when the system has a small failure probability. Accordingly, the advantages and constraints of applying the Chernoff bound for passive system reliability evaluation are discussed in this paper.
The present paper evaluates seismic bearing capacity of rock masses subjected to loads of strip footings using the upper bound method. A general formula was proposed to evaluate the seismic bearing capacity considering both the horizontal and vertical accelerations of the earthquake and the effects of footing embedment depth simultaneously. Modified Hoek-Brown failure criterion was employed for the rock mass. Some comparisons were made with the available solutions and the finite element numerical models to show the accuracy of the developed upper bound formulations. The obtained results show significant improvement compared to the other available solutions. By increasing the horizontal earthquake acceleration from 0.1 to 0.3, the bearing capacity was reduced by up to 39%, while the effect of the vertical earthquake acceleration depends on its direction. An upward acceleration in the range of zero to 0.2 results in an increase in the bearing capacity by up to 24%, while the downward earthquake acceleration has an adverse effect. Also, by increasing the embedment depth of the footing from zero to 5 times the footing width, the value of seismic bearing capacity was raised about 86%. The obtained results were presented as design tables for use in practical applications.

The extraction and separation methods of protein-bound polysaccharides from the mycelium and culture broth of Coriolus versicolor (Fr) Quel were investigated. The use of 2% solution of surface active agent Triton X-100, was effective for extraction of the protein-bound polysaccharides from the mycelium. For the separation and partial purification of the protein-bound polysaccharides, the column chromatography using DEAE-Cellulose and DEAE-Sephadex proved to be effective.
Understanding the whole knowledge of ceramics is essential for a person in charge of conservation of ceramics since their methods of manufacturing or materialistic features have very close relationship with their damaging process. Also, various executions of repair and restoration dealing with any damage in use have to be looked into. The information attained through those studies finds damaging causes of ceramics, which becomes a critical element when choosing a proper conservation treatment method and utilizes as indispensable data for permanent preservation. As part of scrutinizing materials of repair and restoration, this study examines the purpose, date, and the constituents of the materials used in metal bound rims adhered to the brim of ceramics. Among the subjected ceramics, the metal bound rims possible to scientific analysis were gone through element analyses with Portable ${\bullet}\"{I}$-XRF Spectrometer and SEM-EDS while the ingredients of the ceramics difficult to analyze were inferred by eye inspection of exhibition catalogues. The results of this study confirm that metal bound rims consisted of diverse materials were adhered to the brim of ceramics.

In this paper, we propose a fast block matching algorithm using the lower and upper bound of mean absolute difference (MAD) which is calculated at the search region overlapped with neighbor blocks. At first, we calculate the lower bound of MAD and reduce the search point by using this lower bound. In this method, we can get good prediction error performance close to full search block matching algorithm (FSBMA), but there exists some computational complexity that has to be reduced. Therefore, we further reduce the computational complexity by using pixel subsampling besides the lower and upper bound of MAD. Experimental results show that we can remarkably reduce the computational complexity with good prediction error performance close to FSBMA.
