  • Presented in this study is a top-down functional requirement analysis procedure and the desired functionalities for PDM system development, and the benefits of top-down approach over a conventional bottom-up approach is also shown. For the purpose of top-down requirement analysis for PDM system, this study proposes 4P modeling view. 4P modeling view is defined as a modeling perspective for classifying functional requirements and integrating product-related information objects that must be man-aged within PDM systems. Based on 4P modeling templates, benchmarking analysis of commercially major PDM products is conducted and as a result of this analysis, this study suggests desired functionalities for PDM system.

  • Relative importance between bottom-up and top-down controls on phytoplankton dynamics was investigated in the Juam Reservoir, Chonnam based on the results from statistical analyses including regression and artificial neural network (ANN) modeling. Effects of nutrients on size-structured phytoplankton dynamics were explored by simple linear regression analysis and relative importance between bottom-up and top-down controls was estimated based on results from the artificial neural network analyses. Although there is a limitation in determining direct grazing effects since chlorophyll a : pheopigments ratios, indirect index for grazing activity rather than grazing rates or herbivores biomass were used, the results from regression analysis showed that nutrients especially orthophosphates were positively correlated with the phytoplankton biomass and chlorophyll a : pheopigments ratios were also positively correlated with the phytoplankton biomass at lower coefficient of determination ($r^2$) compared to orthophosphates. The simulation results from ANN suggested that the bottom-up mechanisms including water temperature and availability of nutrients, especially orthophosphates were more important than top-down mechanisms such as grazing in the phytoplankton dynamics.

  • A modeling of a hydraulic-gun-aerator is proposed to set up a design procedure for such devices. The aerators are used to destroy any thermal stratification that are responsible for the degradation of water qualify of lakes. The aerator produces ascending flow by using air bubbies released instantly near the bottom of the lake into a cylindrical pipe installed vertically. Differently form the diffuser-aerators, they can pull up the cold, oxygen depleted water directly to the region of the free surface, and they are believed to work effectively especially for relatively deeper lakes. Their design procedure has not been established yet though, and we propose a model focusing on the exit flow velocity at the top of the aerator through the examination of presently operating devices.

  • This paper presents behavioral models using SIMULINK and Verilog-a for a PLL based fractional-N frequency synthesizer. By adopting a top-down approach along with the traditional bottom-up transistor level design in parallel, the design time is greatly shortened, and a co-verification method for both the digital and the analog part is considered. Under this consideration, the SIMULINK modeling reduces simulation time and easily estimates the PLL's performance on the top level. Verilog-a is able to verify the feasibility of each blocks at first hand because it is compatible with transister level circuits. Then, an efficient way of the design is presented by comparing the results of both models.

  • Many organizations have been recognizing the necessity of workflow automation technologies according to the rapid expansion of business process oriented applications, such as enterprise resource pianning, customer relationship management, electronic approval management, and so on, Thus, they have started adopting workflow management systems as an essential technological solution for their workflow processes, However, we need some technological extensions and improvements on them in order to accommodate a new type of workflow processes, which is called cross-organizational global workflow processes that require a certain level of collaborations between the organizations engaged in the global workflow processes, Fragment-driven workflow modeling methodology is a Bottom-Up methodology composing a global workflow by defining each organization's own activities, which is called a fragment through a realtime cooperative system. The approach is able to not only simplify the modeling work but also keep each organization's independence in modeling a global workflow, In this paper, we describe the fragment-driven workflow modeling methodology and realize the methodology through the implementation of a cooperative swimlane workflow modeling system.

  • The geological conditions surrounding the Jijiapo Tunnel of the Three Gorges Fanba Highway project in Hubei Province are very complex. In this paper, a 3-D physical model was carried out to study the evolution process of filling-type fracture water inrush and mud gush based on the conditions of the section located between 16.040 km and 16.042 km of the Jijiapo Tunnel. The 3-D physical model was conducted to clarify the effect of the self-weight of the groundwater level and tunnel excavation during water inrush and mud gush. The results of the displacement, stress and seepage pressure of fracture and surrounding rock in the physical model were analyzed. In the physical model the results of the model test show that the rock displacement suddenly jumped after sustainable growth, rock stress and rock seepage suddenly decreased after continuous growth before water inrushing. Once water inrush occured, internal displacement of filler increased successively from bottom up, stress and seepage pressure of filler droped successively from bottom up, which presented as water inrush and mud gush of filling-type fracture was a evolving process from bottom up. The numerical study was compared with the model test to demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the results of the model test.

  • In this study 8 nodes parallel linux cluster system is constructed and tested for the evaluation of computational efficiency and reliability of the Yellow Sea tidal hydrodynamics prior to compute storm surge inundation along the west coast of the Korean Peninsular. Computational efficiency increases up to 7 times based on NPB bench-marking test. Simulated results by pADCIRC on reproduction of the Yellow Sea tidal hydrodynamics resemble well with previous studies. According to model parameter tests, bottom friction coefficient, which should be appropriately represented shallow depth along the west coast, is essential factor in simulation.

  • The top-down method for SOA delivery is recommended as a best way to take advantage of SOA. The core step of SOA delivery is the step of service modeling including service analysis and design based on ontology. Most enterprises know that the top-down approach is the best but they are hesitant to employ it because it requires them to invest a great deal of time and money without it showing any immediate results, particularly because they use well-defined component based systems. In this paper, we propose a service identification method to use a well-defined components maximally as a bottom-up approach. We assume that user's inputs generates events on a GUI and the approximate business process can be obtained from concatenating the event paths. We first find the core GUIs which have many outgoing event calls and form event paths by concatenating the event calls between the GUIs. Next, we adapt sequential pattern mining algorithms to find the maximal frequent event paths. As an experiment, we obtained business services with various granularity by applying a cohesion metric to extracted frequent event paths.
