A head-and-neck phantom was designed in order to evaluate remotely the quality of the delivery dose of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) in each institution. The phantom is homogeneous or inhomogeneous by interchanging the phantom material with the substructure like an air or bone plug. Monte Carlo simulations were executed for one beam and three beams to the phantom and compared with ion chamber and thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) measurements of which readings were from two independent institutions. For single beam, the ion chamber results and the MC simulations agreed to within about 2% TLDs agreed with the MC results to within 2% or 7% according to which institution read the TLDs. For three beams, the ion chamber results showed -5% maximum discrepancy and those of TLDs were $+2{\sim}+3%$. The accuracy of the TLD leadings should be increased for the remote dose monitoring. MC simulations are a valuable tool to acquire the reliability of the measurements in developing a new phantom.

The hand is a part of the body which has various functions and a sophisticated structures bone, Joint, tendon, ligament and logical nerve organ are aggregated densely in the hand of anatomy its functions are delicate. The hand's functions are very important for doing ADL and a worker's As the hand is structure which is used often and commonly it is a site that can be easily damaged by a accident on work. This study was investigated and analyzed by the results from 238 workers who had hand injury and physical therapy from January, 1997 to June, 1998 at Shin-Pung, Jang-Lim industrial complex which is located in Pusan. 1. A hand injury most frequertly happened in worker in their 30's and 20's(66 case, 28%), second was 57 case(24%) their 40's. 2. Among workers suffering from injury, who had one or less than 2 years on the job, a injury most frequently occurred. 3. Scale of workers, A injury most frequently happend in a place where had workers from 10 to 50. 99 workers from that place were 42% of total. 4. Month of occurrence rate in March were the highest compared to other months 40 injury workers in march were 17% of the total. Second was July, and the least was April that injury appeared with 10 workers. (4.2% of the total) 1. Frocture was the most common lesion 82 workers had that lesion(34%) soft tissue rupture was 71 workers who were 30% of total in type of lesion. 2. Of the site of lesion multiple case was the most common in which 57 workers had that lesion it were 24% of the total. The next was the index finger site in which 44 workers were 19% of the total. The index finger was the most common mono-site that can be lesion 36 workers were the middle finger lesion workers who were 15% of the total. Of the joint lesion, PIP was the most in which 76 workers were 44% and in MC 27 workers were 15% of the total. 3. Interval of physical therapy 79 workers from one month to 2 months, was 33% of the total and 174 workers who had therapy below 3 months were 71% 4. Post injury of disablity of the site, phalangeous disability was the most in which 148 workers had that injury and they were 62% of the total of the grade of disability 110 workers who were 46% of the total state from less than 25% disability in hand-function and 59 patients who were 25% had no disability. There were 6 workers (3% of the total) who had over -75%-dibability in the hand-function.

Objective : This multi-center clinical study was designed to determine the long-term results of patients who received a one-level posterior lumbar interbody fusion with expandable cage ($Tyche^{(R)}$ cage) for degenerative spinal diseases during the same period in each hospital. Methods : Fifty-seven patients with low back pain who had a one-level posterior lumbar interbody fusion using a newly designed expandable cage were enrolled in this study at five centers from June 2003 to December 2004 and followed up for 24 months. Pain improvement was checked with a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and their disability was evaluated with the Oswestry Disability Index. Radiographs were obtained before and after surgery. At the final follow-up, dynamic stability, quality of bone fusion, interveretebral disc height, and lumbar lordosis were assessed. In some cases, a lumbar computed tomography scan was also obtained. Results : The mean VAS score of back pain was improved from 6.44 points preoperatively to 0.44 at the final visit and the score of sciatica was reduced from 4.84 to 0.26. Also, the Oswestry Disability Index was improved from 32.62 points preoperatively to 18.25 at the final visit. The fusion rate was 92.5%. Intervertebral disc height, recorded as $9.94{\pm}2.69\;mm$ before surgery was increased to $12.23{\pm}3.31\;mm$ at postoperative 1 month and was stabilized at $11.43{\pm}2.23\;mm$ on final visit. The segmental angle of lordosis was changed significantly from $3.54{\pm}3.70^{\circ}$ before surgery to $6.37{\pm}3.97^{\circ}$ by 24 months postoperative, and total lumbar lordosis was $20.37{\pm}11.30^{\circ}$ preoperatively and $24.71{\pm}11.70^{\circ}$ at 24 months postoperative. Conclusion : There have been no special complications regarding the expandable cage during the follow-up period and the results of this study demonstrates a high fusion rate and clinical success.

Purpose: We analyzed treatment result to examine the outcome for patients with sacral chordoma and to determine relevant prognostic factors. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 19 patients with sacral chordoma seen at out institution between 1990 and 2010. There were 9 men and 10 women with mean age of 56 years. The average follow up was 63 months (range, 25-144 months). 15 patient received surgical treatment, six of these patient had wide, eight had marginal, one had intralesional margin and 4 patient treated with Radiation therapy only. Results: The disease free and overall survival rate for all 19 patients was 34.7% and 79.7% at 5-years, respectively. Statistical analysis using the log-rank test revealed no significant difference between the surgery and radiation therapy groups in overall survival (p=0.54). Nine of 19 patients had local recurrence at a median of 2.5 years postoperatively. Seven of these 9 patients had distant metastasis at a median of 4.5 years postoperatively. Among the variables, tumor size (p=0.033) and tumor involvement of above S3 (p=0.032) were independent prognostic factor for overall survival. Nine of 15 patients who received surgical treatment had postoperative complication such as voiding difficulty and incontinence. Conclusion: Careful consideration of the patient general condition and predictable complication of the treatment might be the best way to improve patient's survival and quality of life.

The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare survival rates of resorbable blast media(RBM) surface and acid-etched surface implants being usually used in clinics. RBM surface implants (USII, Osstem, Busan, Korea) or acid-etched surface implants ($Osseotite^{(R)}$, Biomet $3i^{[TM]}$, FL, USA) were placed in edentulous area of 140 patients between January of 2005 and March of 2007. The number of implants was 304, and 152 out of them were RBM surface implants while another 152 were acid-etched surface implants. According to the evaluation items, the survey was performed before and after the implants installations. The 3-year survival rates of both kind of implants were calculated. 1. Total of 152 RBM surface implants were placed. Among them, one implant was failed, which was implanted in the posterior mandible with D2 bone quality. The failure was resulted from fracture of the fixture. Others showed good results and survival rate of RBM surface implant was 99.34%. 2. Total of 152 acid-etched surface implants were placed. Seven implants of them were failed, thus, survival rate was 95.39%. The causes of the failures were considered as infection, overheat and the lack of initial stability. In this research, both implants showed good 3-year survival rate, although RMB surface implant represented a better result.

Recently, dental implants extensively inserted on edentulous area show highly clinical success rate. However, clinicians cannot exclude the possibility of failure and it often unexpectively occures. Many possible factors associated with failure of dental implants have been reported but controversy exists over the extent to them. In this study, we collected 212 patients who had been inserted 358 dental implants on mandibular premolar and molar area from 2005 to 2006. The survival rate of fixtures was recorded according to age of patients, implantation site, implant system, diameter and length of fixtures. Multi-variable analysis using SPSS chi-square test was operated to verify relation of each factors and survival rates. Accumulative survival rate was 98.3% for 3 years. Only diameter of fixtures was related to the implant survival rate. This may be thought that wider fixtures had been chosen to rescue implants or used in sites of poor bone quality. Further continuous study will be needed for direct guidance associated with survival rate of implants.

Anchorage plays an important role in orthodontic treatment. Skeletal anchorage like the miniscrew is considered a more effective method in anchorage control than conventional anchorage which needs much patient's cooperation. The miniscrew offers many advantages. 1) It is easy to insert and to remove. 2) It can endure the force needed for moving teeth. 3) It can be immediately loaded and 4) Patient cooperation is not needed. 5) It is economic compared to other skeletal anchorage systems. In comparison to adult's bones, children's bones have comparatively poor bone quality and quantity. Therefore, it is hard to obtain primary stability in younger patients. However, if the miniscrew can be retained successfully, it will be effective in many orthodontic treatments. In these cases, we used the miniscrew in correcting of diastema, in aligning dental midline, and in rendering a forced eruption of impacted tooth in mixed dentition patient. We obtained satisfactory results.
Fifty castrated crossbred ($Landrace{\times}Yorkshire$) pigs, weighing an average of $60.6{\pm}3.1kg$ were allotted to one of five treatments in a randomized block design to examine the effects of dietary inclusion of 0.1% L-carnitine (50 ppm carnitine), 0.1% selenium-enriched yeast (0.3 ppm selenium), 0.1% Jujube fruit or 0.1% Hwangto (Red clay) on pig performance and carcass quality. All diets were based on corn, wheat, soybean meal and wheat bran and were formulated to supply 13.8 MJ DE/kg. Dietary supplementation did not influence daily gain (p = 0.57), feed intake (p = 0.52), or feed conversion (p = 0.32). Digestibility of dry matter (p = 0.60), organic matter (p = 0.74), crude protein (p = 0.76), crude fibre (p = 0.70) and energy (p = 0.75) were also unaffected by inclusion of any of the additives. Tissue samples taken from the longissimus muscle showed that the levels of carnitine (p = 0.0001) and selenium (p = 0.0001) were significantly higher with dietary inclusion of carnitine or selenium-enriched yeast. Dietary treatment did not affect dressing percentage (p = 0.33), carcass lean yield (p = 0.99) or first, $10^{th}$ and last rib midline backfat depth (p = 0.45, 0.82 and 0.47, respectively). Dietary treatment also did not affect the percentages of tenderloin (p = 0.37), bacon (p = 0.36), fat and bone (p = 0.56), picnic shoulder (p = 0.25), skirt (p = 0.80), fresh ham (p = 0.31) or ribs (p = 0.79). However, pigs fed the diet containing Jujube fruit had a higher percentage of Boston butt than pigs fed the carnitine or selenium supplemented diets (p = 0.01). Pigs fed added Hwangto had a higher (p = 0.04) percentage of loin compared with pigs fed supplementary selenium or Jujube fruit. Loin muscle from pigs fed carnitine had a significantly lower Hunter colour value for L (whiteness, p = 0.004) and a higher value for $a^*$ (redness; p = 0.069). The overall results indicate that supplementation with L-carnitine and selenium-enriched yeast can produce pork containing higher levels of carnitine and selenium, which could provide health benefits for consumers of pork without detrimental effects on pig performance.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of Sedum sarmentosum Bunge (SS) on the collagen content of the connective tissues in ovariectomized rats. From day 2 until day 37 after the ovariectomy, Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly assigned to the following groups: sham-operated rats (Sham), ovariectomized control rats (OVX-control), ovariectomized rats supplemented with SS at 50 mg/kg BW/day (OVX-SS50), 100 mg/kg bw/day (OVX-SS100) and 200 mg/kg bw/day (OVX-SS200), and an ethyl ether fraction of SS at 10 mg/kg bw/day (OVX-EE) and an ethyl acetate fraction of SS at 10 mg/kg bw/day (OVX-EA). The SS ethanol extracts and SS fractions were orally administrated 1 mL per day. The OVX rats were significantly heavier than the sham-operated rats at all time points, but supplementation with the SS extracts tended to gain weight less than OVX-control. Supplementation with the SS extracts prevented a decrease in the collagen level in bone and cartilage tissues. These results are consistent with the conclusions based on the estrogenic activities of SS. Therefore, it may be used to possibly improve the quality of life in menopausal women.

Recently, adipose mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSC) that are similar to bone marrow MSC and blood derived MSC are thought to be another source for stem cell therapy. However, the diseases that can be applied for stem cells therapy are age-dependent degenerative diseases. Accordingly, the present study investigated the growth and differentiation potential to neural cells of human AdMSC (hAdMSC) obtained from aged thirty, forty and fifty. The growth of cells and cell viability were measured by passage and neural differentiation of hAdMSC was induced in neural differentiation condition for 10 days. Our results demonstrated that cell number, viability and morphology were not different from hAdMSC by age and passage. Immunofluorescence analysis of neural cell marker (TuJ1, NSE, Sox2, GFAP or MAP2) demonstrated no significant differences in neural cell differentiation by age and passage. As the number of passage was increased, the mRNA level of MAP2 and Sox2 was decreased in hAdMSC from age of 50 compared to hAdMSC from age of 30. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that ability of neural cell differentiation of hAdMSC was maintained with ages, suggesting that autologous stem cells from aged people can be applied for stem cell therapy with age-dependent neural disease with the same stem cell quality and ability as stem cell derived from young age.
