Light-cured orthodontic composite resin has been widely advertised recently for use in bonding brackets. However, the curability of light-cured resin when light waves are diffused through metal brackets in questionable. The purposes of this study were to evaluate shear bond strength and failure patterns of visible light-cured resin(Lightbond) and chemically cured-resin(Mono-Lok 2), and to determine the relative value of light-cured resin as an alternative to conventional chemically cured resin. Each of the two resins was tested on twenty extracted human first premolars. Standard edgewise metal brackets were bonded to the teeth in accordance with the manufacturers' recommendation. After bonding, the teeth were stored for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$, 100% humidity. The shear bond strength was tested with a universal testing machine(Instron 4302), at 0.5mm/min crosshead speed. After debonding, brackets and enamel surfaces were examined with a scanning electron microscope and a stereoscopic microscope. The results were as follows : 1. Metal brackets bonded with Lightbond showed statistically higher shear bond strength than metal brackets bonded with Mono-Lok2. 2. The predominant failure site in Lightbond was the enamel-resin interface, and in Mono-Lok 2 it was the resin itself. 3. Enamel cracks were not found in any specimen. The above results suggest that direct bonding of metal brackets to enamel with light-cured resin bonding agent can be used effectively in clinics.

The purpose of this study was to compare shear bond strength of composite resin using several dentin bonding agents and light cured glass ionomer cement(Fuji II LC). 40 Bovine primary anterior teeth were used for this experiment. Labial surface of teeth were flattened. It were divided into four groups. Each group was composed of 10 teeth. The material used for this experiment were Scotchbond Multipurpose-Z-100, Allbond 2-Aelitefil, Gluma-Pekalux, light cured glass ionomer cement(Fuji II LC). Each of the materials was applied to the exposed surfaces of 10 teeth by insertion into a cylindrical shaped matrix which is 3mm diameter and 3mm in height. The completed specimens were stored at $37^{\circ}C$ under 100% humidity for 24 hours : the shear bond strength of each material to dentin surface were measured with INSTRON universal testing machine. The results were as follows : 1. Shear bond strength to dentin surface increased in order of light cured glass ionomer cement(Fuji II LC), Gluma, Allbond 2, Scotchbond Multipurpose. 2. Between shear bond strength of light cured glass ionomer cement(Fuji II LC) and Allbond 2, there was statistical significace(p<0.05) 3. Between shear bond strength of light cured glass ionomer cement(Fuji II LC) and Scotchbond Multipurpose, between shear bond strength of Gluma and Scotchbond Multipurpose, there was statistical significance.(p<0.01) The shear bond strength of dentin bonding agents were higher than light cured glass ionomer cement. The reason is that materials and quality of dentin bonding agent were enhanced. Further investigation is necessary to improve shear bond strength of light cured glass ionomer cement.

PURPOSE. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of cleaning solutions on saliva-contaminated zirconia in comparison to air-abrasion in terms of resin bonding. MATERIALS AND METHODS. For saliva-contaminated air-abraded zirconia, seven cleaning methods)-no contamination (NC), water-spray rinsing (WS), additional air-abrasion (AA), and cleaning with four solutions (Ivoclean [IC]; 1.0 wt% sodium dodecyl sulfate [SDS], 1.0 wt% hydrogen peroxide [HP], and 1.0 wt% sodium hypochlorite [SHC])-were tested. The zirconia surfaces for each group were characterized using various analytical techniques. Three bonded resin (Panavia F 2.0) cylinders (bonding area: $4.5mm^2$) were made on one zirconia disk specimen using the Ultradent jig method [four disks (12 cylinders)/group; a total of 28 disks]. After 5,000 thermocycling, all specimens were subjected to a shear bond strength test with a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/minute. The fractured surfaces were observed using an optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM). RESULTS. Contact angle measurements showed that groups NC, AA, IC, and SHC had hydrophilic surfaces. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed similar elemental distributions between group AA and groups IC and SHC. Groups IC and SHC showed statistically similar bond strengths to groups NC and AA (P>.05), but not groups SDS and HP (P<.05). For groups WS, SDS, and HP, blister-like bubble formations were observed on the surfaces under SEM. CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this in vitro study, some of the cleaning solutions (IC or SHC) were effective in removing saliva contamination and enhancing the resin bond strength.
This paper deals with the separation of MTBE-methanol mixtures using crosslinked Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) membranes with sulfur-succinic acid(SSA) as a crosslinking agent by pervaporation and vapor permeation technique. The operating temperatures, methanol concentration in feed mixtures, and SSA concentrations in PVA membranes were varied to investigate the separation performance of PVA/SSA membranes and the optimum separation characteristics by pervaporation and vapor permeation. And also, for PVA/SSA membranes, the swelling measurements were carried out to study the transport phenomena. The swelling measurements were carried out for pure MTBE and methanol, and MTBE/methanol=90/10, 80/20 mixtures using PVA/SSA membranes with varying SSA compositions. There are two factors of the membrane network and the hydrogen bonding. In pervaporation separation was also carried out for MTBE/methanol=90/10, 80/20 mixtures at various temperatures. The sulfuric acid group in SSA took an important role in the membrane performance. The crosslinking effect might be over the hydrogen bonding effect due to the sulfuric acid group at 3 and 5% SSA membranes, and this two factors act vice versa on 7% SSA membrane. In this case, the 5% SSA membrane shows the highest separation factor of 2,095 with the flux of 12.79g/㎡·hr for MTBE/methanol=80/20 mixtures at 30℃ which this mixtures show near the azeotopic composition. Compared to pervaporation, vapor permeation showed less flux and similar separation factor. In this case, the flux decreased significantly because of compact structure and the effect of hydrogen bonding. In vapor permeation, density or concentration of methanol in vaporous feed is lower than that of methanol in liquid feed, as a result, the hydrogen bonding portion between the solvent and the hydroxyl group in PVA is reduced in vapor permeation. In this case, the 7% SSA membranes shows the highest separation factor of 2,187 with the flux of 4.84g/㎡·hr for MTBE/methanol=80/20 mixtures at 30℃.

The purpose of this study was to elucidate the effect of blood-and saliva-contamination during dentin pretreatment procedure on tensile bond strength, and to investigate the effect of contaminant-removing treatments on the recovery of bond strength of dentin bonding agents. Dentin specimens prepared from freshly extracted bovine mandibular anterior teeth were divided into non-contaminated control and contaminated experimental groups. The specimens of the contaminated group were contaminated with saliva or blood after etching or priming procedure, followed by contaminant-removing treatments. All the specimens were bonded with All Bond$^{(R)}$ 2 dentin bonding agent and Bisfil$^{TM}$ composite resin or Scotchbond$^{TM}$ Multipurpose and Z100. After all the bonded specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours, tensile bond strengths were measured. The contaminated dentin and fractured dentin surfaces were examined under the scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows : Contaminated specimens showed lower bond strength than non-contaminated ones regardless of the kind of contaminant, contamination time and contaminant-removing treatments, except specimens which were acid-etched following saliva contamination after etching in All Bond$^{(R)}$ 2 groups (p<0.05). Blood contaminant resulted in much bond strength decrease than saliva ones (p<0.01), and contamination after priming resulted in much decrease in bond strength than after etching (p<0.01). Re-etching resulted in increase of bond strength in the specimens contaminated with saliva after etching but not in blood contaminated ones. Re-priming resulted in increase of bond strength in the specimens contaminated after priming regardless of the kind of contaminant.
In order to improve the interfacial bonding force and reaction polymerization degree of the carbon fiber reinforced nylon 6 composite material, the surface of the existing epoxy-sizing carbon fiber was desized to remove the epoxy and treated with urethane, nylon and phenoxy sizing agent, was observed. The interfacial bond strength of the resized carbon fiber was confirmed by IFSS (Interfacial Shear Strength) and the fracture surface was observed by scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the interfacial bonding strength of the carbon fiber treated with nylon and phenoxy sizing agents was higher than that of urethane - based sizing. It has been found that the urethane - type resizing carbon fiber has lower interfacial bonding strength than the conventional epoxy - sizing carbon fiber. This result shows that the interfacial bonding between carbon fiber and nylon 6 is improved by removing low activity and smoothness of existing carbon fiber.
In this work, effect of antistrip additives to reduce moisture damage of asphalt mixture were studied. Asphalt antistripping agents were prepared by condensation of formaldehyde with tetraethylene pentamine (TEPA), triethylenetetramine (TETA) and bis(hexamethylene)-triamine (BHMT), respectively. And also the metal type antistripping agent was prepatred by neutralization of stearic acid or palmitic acid with metal hydroxide. Mechanical characteristics of the asphalt mixture added antistripping agent were evaluated with Marshall stability, submerging residuals and coating rate. It was found that antistripping agent prepared in this study reduced moisture damages of asphalt mixtures. In particular, asphalt mixtures added BHMT and C/S (Calcium stearate hydroxide) antistripping agent showed highest submerging and coating rate. Because BHMT and C/S type antistripping agent was to improve bonding between asphalt and aggregate owing to increase of amine concentration and role of metal surfactant.
The aim of this study was to determine the shear bond properties of four dentin bonding systems to internal cervical dentin, and to investigate the effect of the pretreatment for removing smear layer and position of dentin on shear bond strength of dentin bonding agents. The materials tested in this study were consisted of four commercially available dentin bonding systems[Allbond 2(AB), Clearfil Linerbond 2(CL), Optibond FL(OP), Scotchbond Multi-purpose(SB)], a restorative light-cured composite resin[Z100]J and a chelating agent[RC-prep(RC)]. Fifty-six freshly extracted human molars were used in this study. Dentin specimens were prepared by first cutting the root of the tooth 1mm below the cementoenamel junction with a diamond bur in a high speed handpiece under air-water coolant, and then removing occlusal part at pulp horn level by means of a second parallel section, The root canal areas were exposed by means of cutting the dent in specimens perpendicular to the root axis. Dentin specimens were randomly assigned to two groups(pretreated group, not-pretreated group) based on the pretreatment method of dentin surface. In pretreated group, RC was applied to dentin surface for 1minute and then rinsed with NaOCl. In not-pretreated group, dentin surface was rinsed with saline Each groups were subdevided into four groups according to dentin bonding systems. Four dentin bonding systems and a restorative resin were applied according to the directions of manufacturer. The dentin-resin specimens were embedded in a cold cure acrylic resin, and were cut with a low speed diamond saw to the dimension of $1{\times}1mm$. The cut specimens were divided into three groups according to the position of internal cervical dentin. The shear bond properties of dentin-resin specimens were measured with Universal testing machine (Zwick, 020, Germany) with the cross head speed of 0.5mm/min. From this experiment. the following results were obtained : 1. In case of shear bond strength, there was no significant difference among dentin bonding systems in not-pretreated groups, whereas in pretreated groups, the shear bond strengths of AB and of SB were statistically significantly higher than those of CL and of OP. 2. The shear bond strengths of AB and of SB in pretreated groups were significantly higher than those in not-pretreated groups. 3. The shear bond strengths of radicular layer of OP were higher than those of occlusal layer of OP in not-pretreated groups, and of AB in pretreated groups. The shear bond strengths of radicular layer of AB and of CL in not-pretreated groups were higher than those in pretreated group.

Dyeing properties of the colorants extracted from pomegranate hull on cotton fabric were investigated. Effects of dyeing conditions and mordanting on dye uptake, color change and colorfastness were explored. Cationic agent treatment was done for cotton to improve low dyeability in natural dyeing. In addition antimicrobial activity of the cotton fabrics dyed with pomegranate colorants was examined by the shake flask method. Pomegranate colorants showed low affinity to cotton fiber and its adsorption isotherm was Freundlich type. Therefore, hydrogen bonding was involved in the adsorption of pomegranate colorants onto cotton fiber. Mordants did not significantly increase dye adsorption. Pomegranate colorants produced mainly yellow color on cotton fabric. In order to improve dye uptake, cotton was cationized by treating with Cationon UK(quarterly ammonium salt) and chitosan. The cationized cotton with Cationon UK showed higher dye uptake and shorter dyeing time, compared with the untreated cotton. Chitosan treated cotton also showed high dye uptake, but chitosan was less effective compared with Cationon UK. Fastness to washing, perspiration, and rubbing was not improved by mordanting and cationizing treatment, but light fastness was increased by all mordants and cationic agent. As dye concentration increased, bacterial reduction rate was increased and mordants did not significantly increase bacterial reduction rate.

Structural stability and shock absorption are important properties for corrugated board. In order to maintain structural stability, adhesive properties between top/bottom liners and corrugated medium are not only essential but also important for productivity and product quality. Borax has been an essential ingredient in corrugating adhesive solution. Borax increases viscosity, bonding between starchs and green adhesive bond. The objective of this research is to improving adhesive strength and viscosity stability by adding cross-linking agent instead of borax. Rheology and penetration of main starch gelatinization slurry were affected by borax addition level. Borax increased viscosity and decreased viscosity stability, while cross-linking additives increased viscosity stability and adhesive strength by anchoring effect.
