The Yakhyeon catholic church (Historic Site No. 252 in Korea) that was constructed in 1892 has been the first western brick structure to ever have existed and one of the most important historical materials in the Korean modern architecture. After a fire had broken out at the catholic church in 1998, the stained glass on the back wall, the slab glass (dalle de verre) introduced by Lee Nam Guy in 1974, was repaired in 1999 because of singe scorch and water leakage. An analysis of the coloration elements showed that yellow, red and green included Zn, K and Cd, respectively. The glass of red contained Se, dark green contained Mn and Cr, and blue contained Pb and S. According to material analysis, the masonry joint was identified dolomite ($CaMg(CO_3)_2$) and calcite ($CaCO_3$), which was observed plate, columnar, rhombic and square of crystalline particles. Meanwhile, ultrasonic velocity in the stained glass recorded low speed in the middle and lower right of the window (an average of 4,130 m/s). And the joint was measured the lowest physical properties of the top left and middle of the window (an average of 2,053 m/s). This study have showed that extensive physical damage was founded to the left and middle rather than the right side. In this respect, more research in needed to conserve the correlation between color and physical properties.
The excavated potteries of Goryeo Period from the Sandongri archaeological site in Seosan were studied on physicochemical analyses. Surface color of the samples are mainly grayish blue, and showed the natural glaze by melting the body soils during the burning. Partly, swelling surface are observed bloated marks because of blow out gas by burning. The potteries are some possibility of making the similar source clay on the basis of magnetic susceptibilities (about $1{\times}10^{-3}SI\;unit$) and general occurrences. Values of specific gravity, apparent porosity and absorption ratio are divided two groups as highly different cases of bloating surface samples. The source clay of the potteries used mainly microcrystalline clay, the mineral compositions are quartz and some colored minerals. Based on the analysis, the burning temperature of the potteries are assumed that they were around $1,100^{\circ}C$ because detection of quartz and mullite within hard and compact matrices. As geochemical variations of the samples, evolution trends of rare earth, compatible and incompatible elements showed very similar patterns excepting the some major elements, that means the potteries are interpreted to making by elutriation processes using the same raw clays from very similar basement rocks of genetically.
In this study, in vitro maturation system using fetal bovine serum (FBS) or porcine follicular fluid (pFF) was investigated to produce comparable oocytes to those derived from in vivo. Control group of oocytes was cultured in TCM 199 supplemented with 0.1% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Other three groups of oocytes were cultured in TCM 199 supplemented with 10% FBS, 10% pFF or 5% FBS + 5% pFF, respectively. After 44 h maturation, oocytes with the first polar body were activated with two electric pulses (DC) of 1.2 kv/cm for 30 ${\mu}sec$. Also, matured oocytes of four groups were reconstructed and fused. Reconstructed embryos were cultured in PZM-3 under 5% $CO_2$ in air at $38.5^{\circ}C$ for 6 days. The oocytes matured in the medium supplemented with FBS or/and pFF showed significantly higher maturation rates (64.0 vs. 73.9 to 85.2%). In PA embryos, cleavage rates (89.7 vs. 77.1 to 86.6%) and blastocysts rates (30.0 vs. 16.2 to 26.2%) were significantly higher in pFF group (p<0.05). In NT embryos, there was no difference among treatments in cleavage rate, but the blastocyst rates (28.5 vs. 15.5 to 24.6%) were significantly higher in pFF group (p<0.05). The apoptosis rate was significantly higher (p<0.05) in the control than other groups (10.8 vs. 4.9 to 8.2% for PA, 3.1 vs. 0.5 to 1.3% for NT). In order to select the comparable oocyte to in vivo oocytes, each group of oocytes was stained with Brilliant cresyl blue (BCB) after 42h maturation. The matured oocytes were separated according to color of cytoplasm; stained group (BCB+) and unstained group (BCB-). The oocytes matured in the presence of FBS or/and pFF showed significantly higher staining rates (70.3 to 72.7 vs. 35.1%) (p<0.05). To verify the fact that the supplementation of FBS or/and pFF can increase the maturation rates, cdc2 kinase activity, the catalytic subunit of MPF, was determined. The cdc2 kinase activity of the oocytes matured in the medium supplemented with FBS or/and pFF was significantly higher than control group (6.7 to 9.3 vs. 3.8). In conclusion, the supplementation of FBS or/and pFF can support in vitro maturation rate of porcine oocytes through the increment of cdc2 kinase activity level in the cytoplasm.

Identification of paint on victim's clothing and a vehicle are valuable for forensic examination when investigating hit-and-run accidents. Automotive paints on clothes are used to prove a victim caused by traffic accident and to identify a suspected vehicle. The comparison of transferred paints between victim's vehicle and suspected vehicle can be an important evidence in reconstructing the accident situation and in discovering the truth. The paints such as white, yellow, red, blue, or black are hard to examine particle shape under a stereomicroscope because of it is not included aluminum, pearl, and mica flakes in the pigments. The aim of this study under forensic aspect is to compare pigment among basecoat layers of solid paints by identifying inorganic elemental compositions and binder resins of pigments using by micro-FT-IR and micro-XRF spectrometer. The pigment samples were analyzed by using two methods of FT-IR: Reflectance and ATR method. Two methods of FT-IR were useful in discriminating binder resins of pigments by comparing characteristic peaks and patterns of spectra. Also, XRF spectrometer could identify the elemental compositions in inorganic pigments of trace paints which are difficult to compare the identification by FT-IR.

The NAUT (Non-contact Air coupled Ultrasonic Testing) technique is one of the ultrasonic testing methods that enables non-contact ultrasonic testing by compensating for the energy loss caused by the difference in acoustic impedance of air with an ultrasonic pulser receiver, PRE-AMP and high-sensitivity transducer. As the NAUT is performed in a state of steady ultrasonic transmission and reception, testing can be performed on materials of high or low temperatures or specimens with a rough surface or narrow part, which could not have been tested using the conventional contact-type testing technique. For this study, the internal defects of spot weld, which are often applied to auto parts, and CFRP parts, were tested to determine if it is practical to make the NAUT technique commercial. As the spot welded part had a high ultrasonic transmissivity, the result was shown as red. On the other hand, the part with an internal defect had a layer of air and low transmissivity, which was shown as blue. In addition, depending on the PRF (Pulse Repetition Frequency), an important factor that determines the measurement speed, the color sharpness showed differences. With the images obtained from CFRP specimens or an imaging device, it was possible to identify the shape, size and position of the internal defect within a short period of time. In this paper, it was confirmed in the above-described experiment that both internal defect detection and image processing of the defect could be possible using the NAUT technique. Moreover, it was possible to apply NAUT to the detection of internal defects in the spot welded parts or in CFRP parts, and commercialize its practical application to various fields.
Oil paints are mixtures of pigments, drying oils and additives. In the past, oil paints were mainly composed of inorganic pigments. However, recently color matching techniques vary depending on manufacturers due to the development of various kinds of synthetic pigments. Despite this, most studies of oil paints in South Korea are about durability tests, and there is no comparative study on the characteristics of commercial oil paint components. This study aims to compare the properties of four different kinds of oil paints from four manufacturers, which are the most popularity used. Extender pigments in oil paint from C brand differed from that of other manufacturers and various kinds of coloring pigments were differently used depending on the oil paints and the manufacturers. The mixing ratios and the pigment types differed even for oil paints having the same product name. It is assumed that these differences could affect the colors. The result of this study is expected to contribute to the analysis of artworks through the accumulation of scientific data of oil paints. In addition, it can be utilized as a scientific basis for art history studies, including the characteristics of artists or production year.

Two naturalized plants belonging to Plantaginaceae and Labiatae are newly recorded for Korean flora. Nuttallanthus canadensis (L.) D. A. Sutton, a taxon of the unrecorded genus Nuttallanthus (Plantaginaceae), was founded in Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do. This species can be distinguished from the Linaria species by its corolla with a pale blue to a pale purple color, a lower lip longer than the upper lip and seed with 4-7 angles when cross-sectioned. Lamium purpureum var. hybridum (Vill.) Vill. was found in Gwangju Metropolitan city, Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do and Gochang-gun, Jeollanam-do. It can be distinguished from L. purpureum L. by its irregularly dentate bracts and upper lips 3-4 mm in length. New Korean names were given, as Sol-lip-hae-rancho to Nuttallanthus canadensis (L.) D. A. Sutton and Eu-reop-gwang-dae-na-mul to Lamium purpureum var. hybridum (Vill.) Vill. In addition, their descriptions, photos, illustrations and keys to related genera and species are provided here.

This experiment was conducted to develop control method for Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) on eggplant using sticky trap method. According to the color of the sticky traps, the attractiveness of the B. tabaci was the highest in the yellow trap, followed by the green and orange. However, white, blue, red, black and green sticky traps have reduced attractiveness of B. tabaci. In order to improve the efficiency and attractiveness of sticky trap to the B. tabaci, the different kinds of sugars such as glucose, fructose, oligosaccharide, starch syrup and pure sugar were added to sticky traps respectively. However, the effect of B. tabaci attractiveness was low in starch syrup, pure sugar, and non-treated sticky traps. The attracting effect of B. tabaci was depending on the location of sticky trap. The highest value was obtained where sticky traps were located in the top of the eggplant, followed by 30 cm above from the top level. In addition, we were installed up to 40 sticky traps to determine the optimal amount of sticky traps to control B. tabaci in eggplant. When increasing the sticky traps, the number of adult and nymphs of B. tabaci were tended to be decreased significantly. This tendency was more effective in the latter stages than in the early stages. As the number of sticky traps increased, not only the growth rate of eggplant, leaf length, and stem diameter were to be better. But also number of fruits and product marketable value were increased at the early stage of growing as well. The study had proven that the sticky traps had an effect on increasing the yield at the early stage of growth, but the efficiency of controlling decreased due to the high density of B. tabaci of the next generation.
An analytical method of nine synthetic food colors in Korea, Japan, Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee of Food Additives (JECFA), and USA were compared. Contents of water insoluble matter in synthetic food colors tested were not different by general test methods of various organs. Contents of chloride and sulfate salts in Food Green No.3, Food Red No.3, Food Blue No.2, and Food Yellow No.4 slightly differed in various methods, and but up to the standard, and general test methods of JECFA and USA needed far more time. For the measurement of arsenic contents in food colors, colorimetric method in Korea and Japan, and silver diethyldithiocarbamate colorimetric method in USA and JECFA were used, but the standards of them were different. Content of heavy metals was up to the standard, but the methods were used colorimetric method in Korea, atomic absorption method in Japan, and both methods in JECFA and USA.

White light and compound light were found to be the ideal light sources for improving the functionality and ornamental value of indoor plants and reducing the cost of maintenance, but because compound light hinders people from recognizing the original color of plants and makes their eyes easily tired, white light was considered the optimal light satisfying all of the ornamental value, economic efficiency and functionality resulting from plant growth. On the other hand, in the results of examining physiological changes before and after treatment on fine dust PM10 and carbon dioxide removal capacity in a closed chamber under an artificial light source, the patterns of carbon dioxide and fine dust removal were similar among the treatment groups according to light condition, but according to plant type, the removal rate per unit leaf area was highest in $Spathiphyllum$ and lowest in $Dieffenbachia$. In the experiment on dust and carbon dioxide removal, the photosynthetic rate was over 2 times higher after the treatment, and the rate increased particularly markedly under compound light and white light, suggesting that the photosynthetic rate of plants increases differently according to light quality. These results show that light quality has a significant effect on the photosynthetic rate of plants, and suggests that plants with a high photosynthetic rate also have a high carbon dioxide and dust removal capacity. In conclusion, the photosynthetic rate of foliage plants increased under white and blue light that affect photosynthesis and the increased photosynthetic rate reduced carbon dioxide and fine dust, and therefore white and compound light were found to be the optimal light sources most functional and economically efficient in improving ornamental value and indoor air quality.
