  • A power distribution network (PDN) is a network that provides connection between the voltage source supply and the power/ground terminals of a microprocessor chip. It consists of a voltage regulator module, a printed circuit board, a package substrate, a microprocessor chip as well as decoupling capacitors. For power integrity analysis, the board and package layouts have to be transformed into an electrical network of resistor, inductor and capacitor components which may be expressed using the S-parameters models. This modeling process generally takes from several hours up to a few days for a complete board or package layout. When the board and package layouts change, they need to be re-extracted and the S-parameters models also need to be re-generated for power integrity assessment. This not only consumes a lot of resources such as time and manpower, the task of PDN modeling is also tedious and mundane. In this paper, a block-based PDN modeling is proposed. Here, the board or package layout is partitioned into sub-blocks and each of them is modeled independently. In the event of a change in power rails routing, only the affected sub-blocks will be reextracted and re-modeled. Simulation results show that the proposed block-based PDN modeling not only can save at least 75% of processing time but it can, at the same time, keep the modeling accuracy on par with the traditional PDN modeling methodology.

  • By modeling the block matching algorithm as a function of the correlation of image blocks, we derive search patterns for fast block matching motion estimation. The proposed approach provides an analytical support lot the diamond-shape search pattern, which is widely used in fast block matching algorithms. We also propose a new fast motion estimation algorithm using adaptive search patterns and statistical properties of the object displacement. In order to select an appropriate search pattern, we exploit the relationship between the motion vector and the block differences. By changing the search pattern adaptively, we improve motion prediction accuracy while reducing required computational complexity compared to other fast block matching algorithms.

  • This paper proposes for practical engineers a lightweight modeling and simulation environment for continuous system models specified in ordinary differential equations, which are time-domain specification of such systems. We propose a block-oriented specification formalism that has two levels: one for atomic behavior and the other the structure of models. Also we provide with a simulation framework, called BlockSim++, which make models specified in the block-oriented formalism be easily translated in object-oriented program that runs with the proposed simulation framework. The proposed formalism and framework has advantage of reuse such that it can be easily integrated into application programs and heterogeneous simulators. We illustrates the usefulness of the proposed framework by a simple hybrid modeling simulation example.

  • This research focused on analyzing and comparing between the results of hydraulic physical modeling and the results of numerical modeling of continuous block system in river bank protection which is newly developed in-situ block system. To verify the hydraulic physical modeling and review the effectiveness, the numerical modeling was needed against the model test results for vegetation application or not. HEC-RAS model was for 1 dimensional numerical analysis and SMS was for 2 dimensional numerical analysis. The results of the two dimensional numerical simulation, under the condition of roughness coefficient calibration, show similar and rational consequence against the physical modeling. These satisfactory results show that the accomplished results of hydraulic modeling and the predicted results of numerical modeling corresponded reasonably each others.

  • For the reuse of the existing 3D block model of a ship, we analyze the hull modeling process using AVEVA Marine which is a representative CAD (Computer-Aided Design) system for the shipbuilding. In the AVEVA Marine environment where the design engineer makes 3D model on the 2D view that is so-called 2.5D, it cannot be possible to copy to reuse the block model just simply copying the 3D feature model itself like in the general mechanical CAD system or Smart Marine 3D which are on the basis of the 3D model representation. In this paper, we analyze the scheme file where the 3D model is defined in AVEVA Marine so that we develop the program for the block copy and the translation using this scheme file. It is significant that this program can be immediately available as a real-world application on the AVEVA Marine environment.

  • The circuit modeling of interdigitated capacitors fabricated by high-k low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) sheets was investigated. The s-parameters of each test structure were measured from 50 MHz to 10 GHz, and the modeling was performed using these measured sparameters up to the first resonant frequency. Each test structure was divided into appropriate building blocks. The equivalent circuit of each building block was composed based on the partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC) method. Modeling was executed to optimize the parameters in the equivalent circuit of each building block. The validity of the extracted parameters was verified by the predictive modeling for the test structures with different geometry. After that, Monte Carlo analysis and sensitivity analysis were performed based on the extracted parameters. The modeling methodology can allow a device designer to improve the yield and to save time and cost for the design and manufacturing of devices.

  • Open networking architecture is required to support new multimedia services as integrated functions of network management and service architecture. In this paper, we propose the methodology of building block modeling using object grouping concepts and the sharing scheme of different distributed processing environments based on open networking architecture. The building block has the functions of object management, security object instance registry and object mapping in object group. It is necessary for the connection management information to be shared on the interworking between two domains. We implemented and validated connection management functions using computational object modeling and building block modeling in different distributed processing environments.

  • This research focused on development and application feasibility for the coalesced continuous block system in river bank protection. Most of block systems in river bank are pre cast type and have some difficulties against high velocity flood condition or high pressure load, however, the continuous block system can be applied to flood damage recover as well as environmental vegetation block system in river bank. For the application review and analysis of hydraulic condition for this block system, hydraulic physical modeling was carried out. The physical model was built as a scale of 1:50 by Froude similitude measuring the water levels and the water velocities for vegetation application or not. In consequence, the water velocities were observed to decrease meanly 10.1%, and the water depths were to increase meanly 17.8% in case of the of design flood, $Q=200m^3/sec$. To verify the hydraulic physical modeling, the numerical modeling should be conducted for a close examination of vegetation application by one or two dimensional numerical analysis as a next study.

  • This work aims to develop modeling methodology of machine part reliability. The reliability model is to be used for predicting and improving reliability in planning and design processes of products. In order to develop the reliability model of machine parts, the functions and interactions of sub-units of machine parts are analyzed first and function network is constructed. Using the function network, function block diagram is developed, which can be the basis for deriving reliability block diagram. Modeling of machine part reliability has not been widely studied since the reliability modeling of machine parts requires understanding of the functions and failures of their components in several viewpoints. This work tries to find general methodology of reliability modeling and proposes a framework for reliability improvement during machine part development.

  • This paper studies synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging problem which the scatterers are often distributed in block sparse pattern. To exploiting the sparse geometrical feature, a Kronecker constrained SAR imaging algorithm is proposed by combining the block sparse characteristics with the multiway sparse reconstruction framework with Tucker modeling. We validate the proposed algorithm via real data and it shows that the our algorithm can achieve better accuracy and convergence than the reference methods even in the demanding environment. Meanwhile, the complexity is smaller than that of the existing methods. The simulation experiments confirmed the effectiveness of the algorithm as well.
