Performance Improvement of OFDM System Using Transmit Diversity with Space-Time Block Coding

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a special technique for communication systems which can support the high data rate transmission with sufficient robustness to fading channels. Tansmitter diversity with space-time block coding (STBC) is an attractive transmission scheme to improve the performance of systems. In this paper, we compare the performance of space-time block coded OFDM systems with that of conventional OFDM systems over fast fading channels. The block-interleaved (BI) STBC and frequency hopping (FH) OFDM are proposed in the study to provide the maximum achievable diversity gains. As the simulation results, the STBC OFDM, Bl-STBC OFDM and Bl-STBC FH-OFDM provide the much improved performance over the conventional OFDM. And the Bl-STBC FH-OFDM also provide the better performance than the STBC OFDM and Bl-STBC OFDM, especially, in the case of the two transmit antennas are employed while BI-STBC FH-OFDM can maintain the same data rate of 12 Mbps.

  • 본 논문에서는 Alamouti, Tarokh, Su와 Xia 등에 의해 도입된 직교 시공간 부호를 포함한 임의의 선형 직교 시공간 블록 부호에 대해, 준정지 레일리 페이딩 채널에서의 정확한 비트 오율 성능을 분석한다. 먼저 1차원 심볼 오류 함순(one-dimensional symbol error function, ODSEF)를 정의한다. 이것은 직교 시공간 블록 부호의 정확한 쌍 오류 확률(pairwise error probability)에 의하여 얻어진다. ODSEF와 Cho 와 Yoon의 QAM에 대한 비트 오율 표현을 이용하여, 직교 시공간 블록 부호에 대한 일반적인 표현을 구하고, 이를 이용하여, 선형 직교 시공간 블록 부호의 정확한 폐형의 비트 오율을 구한다.

A Novel Channel Estimation Method for OFDM under Rayleigh Fading Channel

  • Conventional channel estimation methods for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system don't show the good characteristics in terms of fast fading channels. To solve this drawback in conventional methods, we propose the channel estimation method fur OFDM, assisted pilot for improvement and convergence in mobile system (APIM), which has a good performance and computational complexity in consideration of other methods. APIM uses the more developed concept of conventional methods and a block frame structure within a whole channel. This concept prevents overall performance from diverging or showing a poor one. The simulation results demonstrate the APIM outperforms pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) and extended symbol aided estimation (ESAE) in terms of mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER) performance under all Rayleigh fading environment. Considering the simulation performance and computational complexity, we can see APIM shows better characteristics than conventional methods for OFDM and has not any error floor even in a fast Rayleigh fading environment.

균일 및 주파수 선택적 페이딩에서 대역폭 효율의 적응 QAM 성능분석 (Performance Evaluation of Bandwidth Efficient Adaptive QAM Schemes in Flat and Frquency Selective Fading Channels)

  • This paper presents the performance evaluation of an adaptive QAM scheme under flat and frequency selective fading channels for indoor wireless communication systems. The QAM modulation is combined with differential encoding and the demodulation process is carried out noncoherently. The adaptation is performed by varying the modulation level of QAM, depending upon received signal strength. The adaptation mechanism allows a 2- or 3-bit increase or decrease at a time, if the channel condition is considered to be significantly good or bad. Simulation results show that the average number of bits per symbol (ABPS) for each symbol block transmitted over a flat fading channel is higher than 5.0 and the BER performance is better than 10^-4 for a SNR value higher than 30 dB. For frequency selective fading channels, an oversampling technique in the receiver was employed. The BER performance obtained for frequency selective fading channels is better than 10^-4 with a SNR value of 40 dB and ABPS is found to be approximately 5.5. Therefore, this scheme is very useful in that it provides both very high bandwidth efficiency and acceptable performance with moderate SNR values over flat and frequency selective fading channels. In addition, this scheme provides reduced receiver complexity by way of noncoherent detection.

Performance of Convolutionally-Coded MIMO Systems with Antenna Selection

  • In this work, we study the performance of a serial concatenated scheme comprising a convolutional code (CC) and an orthogonal space-time block code (STBC) separated by an inter-leaver. Specifically, we derive performance bounds for this concatenated scheme, clearly quantify the impact of using a CC in conjunction with a STBC, and compare that to using a STBC code only. Furthermore, we examine the impact of performing antenna selection at the receiver on the diversity order and coding gain of the system. In performing antenna selection, we adopt a selection criterion that is based on maximizing the instantaneous signal-to­noise ratio (SNR) at the receiver. That is, we select a subset of the available receive antennas that maximizes the received SNR. Two channel models are considered in this study: Fast fading and quasi-static fading. For both cases, our analyses show that substantial coding gains can be achieved, which is confirmed through Monte-Carlo simulations. We demonstrate that the spatial diversity is maintained for all cases, whereas the coding gain deteriorates by no more than $10\;log_{10}$ (M / L) dB, all relative to the full complexity multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system.

  • 본 논문에서는 주파수 비선택성이고 준정적인 동일 분포 독립 Nakagami-m 페이딩 채널에서 GLCODs(Generalized Linear Complex Orthogonal Designs)와 GCIODs(Generalized Coordinate Interleaved Orthogonal Designs)로 얻은 STBCs(Space-Time Block Codes)의 에르고딕 용량을 Meijer의 G함수로 표현되는 닫힌꼴로 유도한다. 유도된 해석적 결과는 Monte-Carlo 모의실험 결과와 매우 잘 일치함을 보였다. 그러므로 대규모 Monte-Carlo 모의실험 없이 다양한 안테나 구성과 상이한 채널환경에서 GLCODs와 GCIODs로 얻은 STBCs의 에르고딕 용량 성능을 분석하고 예측하는 유용한 기법이 제안되었다고 할 수 있다. 마지막에는 유도된 식의 정확도를 입증하는 수치적인 결과들을 제시한다.

협대역 무선채널에서 최적의 다이버시티 수신알고리즘 연구 (Optimal Decoding Algorithm with Diversity Reception for a Fading Channel)

  • 본 논문에서는 무선 협대역 채널에서 다이버시티 수신 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 수신 알고리즘은 통계학분야에서 Maximum-Likelihood Sequence Estimation의 근사 추정치를 계산하는데 활용되는 Expectation-Maximization(EM) 알고리즘을 기본으로 유도하였다. 알고리즘의 특성은 파일럿 심볼을 이용하여 반복적으로 블록 디코딩을 수행하며 시뮬레이션 결과를 기존의 파일럿 심볼을 이용하는 방식(PSI)에 비교하여 매우 우수한 성능을 보였다. 수신 알고리즘의 성능은 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 검증하였으며 다양한 차수의 다이버시티 수신단과 Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM)을 이용한 시스템에 알고리즘을 적용하였다.

  • This paper presents channel estimation of an asynchronous W-CDMA reverse link using the interpolation and moving average algorithm in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channel. The proposed algorithm is an interpolated decision-directed (IDD) block-wise moving average (BWMA) algorithm. The IDD-BWMA algorithm performs two- stage processes. The first stage performs data decision to make a virtual pilot channel by using linear interpolation channel estimation scheme. Then, the second stage performs the channel estimation of the “block-wise moving average” type by using a virtual pilot channel obtained in the first stage. By using Monte-Carlo computer simulations, we show that the proposed channel estimator is superior to other estimation schemes such as the WMSA(K=1) and DD-RAKE at higher Doppler frequencies, especially.

  • Burst errors is a major cause of the performance degradation of digital mobile radio communication over the Rayleigh fading channel. Convoluational codes with block interleaving can be employed to reduce the degredation. This paper has studied the randomness of errors and applied the interleaving to the Viterbi decoders of convolutional codes, Good interleavers for the r=3/4, L=7 convolution code has been searched through computer simulation.

Block Error Performance Evaluation of DS-CDMA System with Combined Techniques in Mobile Communication Channel

  • 본 논문에서는 Nakagami 페이딩 채널 특성의 이동 통신 환경에서 정보 데이터를 PN 시퀀스로 대역 확산시켜 BPSK 변조를 취한 CDMA 시스템에 MRC 다이버시티와 반복 전송(다수결 선택)이나 부호화 기법을 다양하게 결합하였을 때의 블록 오율 성능 향상에 대하여 분석한다. 분석 결과로써, 부호화는 다이버시티 기법보다 더 효과적인 성능 향상을 보였다. 그러나 부호화는 더 넓은 주파수 대역을 필요로 하게 된다. 또한 MRC 다이버시티와 부호화 기법을 결합하였을 때 성능 개선이 크게 향상되었다.
