A black nickel oxide powder, one of the commercial nickel oxide ores, was reduced by hydrogen gas in a batch-type fluidized-bed reactor in a temperature range of 350 to $500^{\circ}C$ and in a residence time range of 5 to 120 min. The hydrogen reduction behavior of the black nickel oxide was found to be somewhat different from that of green nickel oxide ore. For the black nickel oxide, the maximum temperature (below which nickel oxide particles can be reduced without any agglomeration) was significantly lower than that observed for the green nickel oxide. In addition, the best curve fittings of the Avrami model were obtained at higher values of the overall rate constant "k" and at lower values of the exponent "m", compared to those values for the green nickel oxide. It may be inferred from these results that the hydrogen reduction rate of the black nickel oxide is faster than that of the green nickel oxide in the early stages, but the situation reverses in the later stages. For the black nickel oxide ore, in spite of the low temperature sintering, it was possible to achieve a high degree fluidized-bed reduction at lower temperatures and at lower gas consumption rates than was possible for the green nickel oxide. In this regard, the use of black nickel oxide is expected to yield a benefit if its ore price is sufficiently lower than that of the green nickel oxide.

Particulate matters (PM) are small particulate pollution that decrease the function of skin barrier, which causes inflammatory skin diseases and extrinsic aging. In this study, we evaluated the effect of preventing the adherence of PMs from several cosmetic products applied to human skin using iron oxide black. The PM floating chamber consists of skin exposure area, PM inlet, floating power device, and an outlet so that PM can be naturally attached to the skin while floating in the chamber. The change in skin brightness according to the floating concentration of alternative fine dust was checked to confirm the optimal floating concentration conditions. The intensity difference (before-after intensity, Δ) before and after adhesion of iron oxide black was proportional to the amount of PM adhered. The anti-adherence effect of iron oxide black on five cosmetic products were evaluated through 20 each subjects by comparing the amount of iron oxide black adhered on the control and treatment. The difference in brightness before and after the iron oxide black attached to the skin was calculated and compared with the control group(p < 0.05). When over 150 mg of iron oxide black was adhered on the skin, the interference of intensity was low and clearly showed the skin adhered pattern. According to the application of the five cosmetics, the intensity difference was significantly lower than the control group. This means that depending on the product, it prevented the attachment of iron oxide black. This study is a safe and useful method to confirm the prevention of PM skin adherence. In conclusion, cosmetics can prevent the adherence of PM on the skin according to the formulation or ingredients characteristics.

Recently, as there has been growing demand for aesthetic quality in structural materials, the development of excellent color cement concrete having good coloration properties has become a requirement. This study is designed to analyze the basic physical properties of mortar and the properties of keeping the coloration under an ultraviolet ray accelerated weathering test environment according to changes in the mixing ratio between carbon black and iron oxide used as colorants. The test results show that the use of carbon black and iron oxide reduces the initial flow by 6.3~17.2 % and the air content by 3.5~31.5 % but increases the unit volume weight by 3.4~5.5 %, compared to ordinary Portland cement (OPC). In addition, the study shows that the addition of iron oxide increases the self drying shrinkage. So, caution needs to be taken on the workability of the concrete. The brightness value L⁎ represented by black showed the most excellent black colour when carbon black 3 % and iron oxide 5 % are added. According to UV accelerated weatherproof test, the brightness value L⁎ was found to increase in all experiment specimens by 4.28~11.97 %, and the color change by UV was found to be higher for the case where carbon black colorant was not used. Therefore, in terms of color revelation characteristics, the case using carbon black 3 % and iron oxide 5 % was found to show the best black color.

This paper is concerned with type of imperfections present within the anodic oxide films on AA2024 and surface hardness of the anodic film measured after ink-impregnation. The anodic oxide films were formed for 25 min at 40 mA/㎠ and 15±0.5℃ and 300 rpm of magnet stirring rate in 20% sulfuric acid solution. The ink-impregnation allows clear observations of not only the imperfections within the anodic oxide films but also an indentation mark on the oxide film surface made by a pyramidal-diamond penetrator for the hardness measurement. There were observed four different regions in the anodic oxide films on AA2024 and the surface hardness of the anodic oxide films appeared to be crucially dependent on the type of defects, showing 60~100 Hv on the oxide surface region I with large size black defect, 100~140 Hv on the oxide surface region II with large size grey defect, 140~170 Hv on the oxide surface region III with mall size black and/or grey defects and 170~190 Hv on the oxide surface region IV without defects. The pyramidal indentation marks were observed to be distorted in the regions with a large size black and grey defects, while no distortion of the indentation mark was observed in the regions with small size defects and without visible defects.
In this paper, we consider the quality problem of black oxide process in casting for which Taguchi method is used. We explain simply the Taguchi method and existing problems in Black Oxide process. We analyze the problem by the quality improvement procedure proposed by Taguchi. The design factors and noises using cause-effect diagram are found, the experiment is made using orthogonal array. After ANOVA, the critical factors are determined and the optimal process condition is designed. After parameter design, we derive the tolerance levels. As a result of changing the levels of process parameters, the variance of quality characteristic was decreased by quarter and the average value was also decreased by half. We estimated the predictable profit of the improvement.

In order to study the effect of interface oxides on the adhesion strength of the copper/epoxy system, copper foils were immersed in black oxide or brown oxide forming solutions before lamination with epoxy prepregs, and variation of peel strength with the treatment time were investigated. Results showed that peel strength decreased rapidly up to 1 minute of treatment lime and remained constant in the case of the black oxide treated specimens, which was accompanied by the thickening of $Cu_2O$ at the Copper/Epoxy interface during the period. In contrast, peel strength increased rapidly up to 1 minute of treatment time and remained constant in the case of the brown oxide treated specimens, which could be ascribed to the thickening of CuO. Subsequent heat treatments of the Copper/Epoxy laminations at $120^{\circ}C$ in air showed that peel strength remained constant in the case of the black oxide treated specimens but decreased gradually in the case of the brown oxide treated specimens. Following XPS analyses revealed that the latter was possibly caused by the coalescence of CuO at the Copper/Epoxy interface into $Cu_2O$.
In order to observe the microstructure and morphology of porous titanium -oxide thin film, deposition is performed under a higher Ar gas pressure than is used in the general titanium thin film production method. Black titanium thin film is deposited on stainless steel wire and Cu thin plate at a pressure of about 12 Pa, but lustrous thin film is deposited at lower pressure. The black titanium thin film has a larger apparent thickness than that of the glossy thin film. As a result of scanning electron microscope observation, it is seen that the black thin film has an extremely porous structure and consists of a separated column with periodic step differences on the sides. In this configuration, due to the shadowing effect, the nuclei formed on the substrate periodically grow to form a step. The surface area of the black thin film on the Cu thin plate changes with the bias potential. It has been found that the bias of the small negative is effective in increasing the surface area of the black titanium thin film. These results suggest that porous titanium-oxide thin film can be fabricated by applying the appropriate oxidation process to black titanium thin film composed of separated columns.
The fermented black tea with tea fungus (FBTF) was prepared by culturing tea fungus biomass in black tea with 10% sucrose (BT) at 30$\circ$ for 14 days. The flavor quality of FBTF was investigated by sensory and chemical analysis, and the results were compared with BT. The data of sensory analysis indicated that fruity, wine-like, sharp-pungent, and vinegar-like flavor notes were increase, while earthy note was reduced during fermentation. GC-MS analysis of volatile compounds collected from FBTF and BT by Tenax trap showed that linalool, liinalool oxide other flavor compounds known as black tea flavor compounds were disappeared. Some major flavor compounds produced during fermentation were acetic acid, ethanol, limonene, $\alpha$-terpineol, and these volatiles may be attributed to the flavor of characteristic FBTF. Biosynthetic pathway for the formation of limonene and $\alpha$-terpineol are proposed through mevalonic acid pathway using acetic acid as precusor and/or through transformation of linalool and linalool oxide.
Copper-based leadframe sheets were immersed in two kinds of hot alkaline solutions to form brown-oxide or black-oxide layer on the surface. The oxide-coated leadframe sheets were molded with epoxy molding compound (EMC). After post mold curing, the oxide-coated EMC-leadframe joints were machined to form sandwiched double-cantilever beam (SDCB) specimens. The SDCB specimens were used to measure the fracture toughness of the EMC/leadframe interfaces under quasi-Mode I loading conditions. Fracture surfaces were analyzed by various equipment to investigate failure path. The present paper deals with the failure path, and the cause of the failure path formation with an adhesion model will be treated in the succeeding paper.

The characteristics of compaction and unconfined compressive strength were investigated by mixing with lime to all soils adjusted by given percentages of two kinds of clays to sand to obtain the most effective distribution of grain size and the optimum lime content for soil stabilization. In addition, unconfined compressive strength and durability tested by adding of sodium metasilicate, sodium sulfate, sodium carbonate, sodium gydroxide and magnesium oxide to lime-soil mixture mixed with 8 percent lime to adjusted soil having the mixing percentage of 60 percent of cohesive black clay and 40 percent of sand by weight to get the effect and the optimum content of chemicals. The results obtained were as follows; 1.With the addition of more lime, the optimum moisture content was increased, and the maximum dry density was decreased, whereas the more the amount of clay and the less was the maximum drt density. 2. In the soil having more fine grain size the unconfined compressive strength was larger in the earlier stage of curing period, in accordance with the longer period, the mixing percentages of sand to clay showing the maximum unconfined compressive strength, on the basis of 28-day strength, were 60% : 40% (black clay) and 40% : 60% (brown clay) respectively. 3. The reason why the soil adjusted with black clay was remarkably bigger in the unconfined compressive strength than ones adjusted with brown clay for all specimen of lime-soil mixture was the difference in the kind of clay, the amount of chemical compositions the value of pH. Black clay was mainly composed of halloysite that reacted with lime satisfactorily, whereas the main composition of brown clay was kaolinite that was less effect in the enhance of unconfined compressive strength. Also the difference of unconfined compressive strength was because black clay was larger in the amount of composition of calcium oxide and magnesium oxide in the value of pH affecting directly on the unconfined compressive strength of lime-soil mixture than brown clay. 4. In the lime-soil mixture mixed with 8 percent of lime to soil that mixing percentage of sand to black clay was 60% : 40%, on the standard of 7-day strength, the effect of chemical was arranged in the order of magnesium oxide, sodium carbonate, sodium sulfate, sodium hydroxide and sodium metasilicate. 5. The optimum amount of chemical being applicable to the maximum unconfined compressive strength of lime-chemical-soil mixture was 1 percent by weight for air dry soil in the case of adding sodium carbonated and 0.75 percent on sodium hydroxide, the unconfined compressive strength was increased continuously with increase of the amount of chemical up to 2 percent of chemical content is the lime-chemical-soil mixture added sodium metasilicate, sodium sulfate and magnesium oxide. 6. It was considered that the chemical played and accelerant role of early revelation of strength because the rate of increase of unconfined compressive strength of all of lime-chemical-soil mixtures was largest on the 7-day cured specimen. 7. The effect of test on freezing and thawing after adding suitable amount of chemical on the lime-soil mixture mixed with 8 percent of lime to soil that mixing percentage of sand to black clay was 60% : 40% was arranged in the order of magnesium oxide, sodium carbonate, sodium sulfate, sodium metasilicate and sodium hydroxide.
