If a cave is developed and opened to the public, the pollution in caves is inevitable. This kind of environmental pollution is caused by an environmental pollution system that is formed by the interaction among various pollution factors, not by a single factor. The main causes of the pollution are the development of passage, installation of lamps, tourists, oxidation of fixtures, temperature rise and littering, which in turn causes environmental pollution such as green and black mold growth, vatting, exfoliation and water pollution.
A fruit soft rot caused by Mucor piriformis occurred on sweet persimmon storages in Jinju, Changwon and Gimhae, Gyeongnam province, Korea, 2003. The disease infection usually started from wounding after cracking of fruits. At first, the lesions started with water soaked and rapidly softened and diseased lesion gradually expanded. Colonies on potato dextrose agar at $20^{\circ}C$ were whitish to olivaceous-buff Sporangia were globose, black and $96{\sim}153{\mu}m$ in size. Sporangiophores were $26{\sim}42{\mu}m$ in width. Sporangiospores were ellipsoid and $5.8{\sim}10.6{\times}4.3{\sim}7.6{\mu}m$ in size. Columella was obovoid, cylindrical-ellipsoidal, pyriform, subglobose and $80{\sim}125{\mu}m$ in size. Optimal temperature for mycelial growth was $20^{\circ}C$ on PDA. The causal organism was identified as M. piriformis. This is the first report of fruit soft rot on sweet persimmon caused by M. piriformis in Korea.
The substance produced by Bacillus subtilis $480HS_{20}$ showed specific anti Puccinia graminis activity and narrow antimicrobial activity. The anti Puccinia graminis substance was found to be peptide antibiotic which had molecular weight of about 1,500 by sephadex LH-60 gel-filtration. The amino acid composition of the substance waas composed of Ser (1), Glu(3), Ile(1), Gyr(2) and His (1). The compound was yellowish powder and it's melting point was $214{\sim}216^{\circ}C$. UV spectrum in methanol showed single peak at 278(E 1% 1cm 15.2) and important peak at 3,350-3,320, 2,940, 1,635, 1,520-155, 1,240-1, $230cm^{-1}$ were observed in IR Spectrum. The substance was soluble in methanol but insoluble in water, ethyl acetate and chloroform. The antibiotic $480HS_{20}$ showed a little antimicrobial activity against Pyricularia aryzae but no antimicrobial activity was observed against Gram + and Gram - bacteria and molds except pyricularia oryzae.
A halophilic bacterium was isolated from domestic marine. The bacterium was gram negative and motile. Transmission electron micrograph after cultivating for 6-, 20-, 72-, and 144 hrs showed that it was bacilli and contained intracellular granules, which were pleomorphic, larger in density by the time and considered to be PHB since they were positive on the sudan black B staining. The presence of sodium chloride was critical, because the isolated marine bacterium could not multiply and even produce any immunostimulant in the deficiency of sodium chloride. The strain produced an immunostimulant, which was investigated for the biological characteristics. The optimal conditions for the production of the immunostimulant were 1 % dextrose and 1 % yeast extract in artificial sea water for carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively. The initial pH and growth temperature for the production were 8.0 and $30^{\circ}C$ under the presence of oxigen, respectively.
The tribological properties of ceramics are very important in the application to engineering ceramic parts such as mechanical seal slurry valve disc and so on. In this study the effect of graphite addition on the mechanical and tribological properties of RBSC/graphite composites were investigated. The composites were prepared by adding graphite powder to the mixture of SiC powder metallic siliconcarbon black and alumina. Bending strength water absorption friction coefficient the amount of worn out material at a certain time and maximum surface roughness(Rmax) of the prepared composites were measured and crystalline phases were examined with XRD. The composite containing 5 vol% graphite powder showed improved bending strength due to high green density and decreased friction coefficient and wear resistance. The friction coefficient and the wear resistance of the composite were increased by adding graphite powder up to 10 vol% They decreased however as increasing the amount of graphite powder more that 10vol% There was no linear relationship between the tribological properties and bending strength of the composites.

This study was intended to provide an improved method for testing textiles in high school. Four kinds of test subjects were selected and applied to the classes. Problems of the methods in the textbooks were corrected as follows: 1)Burning test: The number of specimen is reduced to 3 kinds of fibers(cotton, wool, and polyester) and recommends are given to make result by comparing with the burning characteris-tics of paper and hair. 2) Absorbency test: Test Method is changed to drop test. The result is recorded by measuring time required for the water drops absorbed to the specimen. 3) Wrinkle recovery test: A glass is provided instead of metal weight. The method of measuring angle which is made by the specimen is shown in figure. 4) Effects of Detergent: 0.2% of detergent solution is provided before class. The amount of oil and carbon black is specified. Students have generally agreed that the improved methods were better than those in the text-books after they made the above 4 recommendable experiments(p<.001)
The susceptibility of five different marine fish to iridovirus IVS-1 infection was analyzed and found a higher the cumulative mortality in the order of rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus), red sea bream (Pagrus major), sea perch (Lateolabrax sp.), rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) and black porgy (Acanthopagrus schlegeli). However, the concentrations of virus in the infected spleens of these species did not differ significantly. To determine the release of iridovirus from infected fish into culturing seawater, rock bream were challenged with iridovirus IVS-1 and the concentration of virus in the water was analyzed using PCR. Over the 10 days of the analysis, the linear relationship between the number of dead fish and viral DNA concentration found in culturing seawater should be considered direct evidence of horizontal iridovirus transmission.
Sclerotinia rot occurred severely on some vegetable crops grown in Namyangju, Yangpyung, and Yangiu areas in Korea in 2001-2002. The crops infected with Scterotinia sp. were Adenophora remotiflora, Armoracia lapathfolia, Angelica acutiloba, Angelica archangelica, Anthriscus sylvestris, Aster tataricus, Beta vulgaris var. cicla, Brassica campestris var. marinosa, Brassica juncea var. laciniata, Chicholium intybus, Lactuca indica var. dracoglossa, Lactuca sativa var. oak-leaf, Petroselinum crispum, and Phyteuma japonicum. The fungus associated with the disease was identified as Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, based on the morphological characteristics of the pathogen. The symptoms were water-soaked spots that enlarged later and became a watery soft rot. Infected parts became yellow and then turned brown, followed by death of the whole plant. White mycelia developed on the upper petioles and leaves and on the soil where these plant parts lay. Then black sclerotia in variable size and shape formed from the mycelial mass. Pathogenicity of the fungus was proven by artificially inoculating each crop. This is the first report of Sclerotinia rot on the listed vegetable crops in Korea.
A blood biochemical analysis was carried out for the serum of wintering sea bream (red sea bream Pagrus major, black sea bream Acanthopagrus schlegeli, rock bream Oplegenathus fasciantuas) with green liver syndrome. GOT and GPT were significantaly elavated in the diseased sea bream. The value of $NH_{3}$ was slightly higher but those of TBIL. TP and UA were lower than the control. But there were no differences in albumin. Ca and glucose between the diseased and the control. These results suggent that a green liver syndrome in the sea bream might be related with nutritional defects and the stress of low water temperature during the winter.

Coalfields in Korea have been grouped into thirteen based on mainly geographycal and geological structure, ten out of which have been developed. To classify the phisico-chemical characteristics of mine drainage from each coalfield and, if possible, to clarify the intrinsic reasons of them. Sampling of waters from 59 mines in eight coalfields has been carried out. Higher pH of drainage water from the mines of the Cungchung coalfield belong to the Beading system, Mesozoic era than those belong to the Pyungan system, Proterozoic era is due to the low content of sulfides of neighboring strata. The drainage from coal beds overlying limestone bed mostly show high pH. Waters from the Gangrung and Samchuck coalfields coal beds are located within black shale formation which contains a lot of sulfides showed mostly very high metal and S $O_{4}$$^{2-}$ concentrations.
