Photografting reaction onto styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) as a function of monomer concentration, irradiation time and carbon black content has been studied using ultraviolet (UV). Acrylamide and benzophenone are used as monomer and photoinitiator, respectively. FT-IR ATR and static contact angle analysis using distilled water are used to measure the graft ratio of acrylamide onto SBR surface. Graft ratio of acrylamide increases with acrylamide concentration and irradiation time and contact angle tends to decrease with increasing graft ratio. It is observed that graft ratio increases with carbon black content.

Concrete has been used for many years as a composite material that has excellent mechanical properties and durability for construction. However, concrete is a poor electrical conductor, especially under dry conditions. Concrete that is excellent in both mechanical and electrical conductivity properties may have important applications in the electrical, electronic, military and construction industry(e.g. for de-icing road from snow). The purpose of this investigation is to improve the electrical conductive of cement mortar preparared with coke dust, graphite, carbon black and carbon fiber as filler. From the test result, as the content of electrically conductive material increased, fluidity and strength decreased but resistivity decreased. The resistivity of electrical conductive cement mortar is effect by water/cement, and aggregate. Cement mortar containing carbon fiber has the best electrical properties considering strength. From this study, it is enough to assure the use of carbon fiber, carbon black and graphite as a conductive filler for electrical conductive cement mortar.

The reclamation of food waste is brought by law in order to clean the underground water. Thus the food waste feed back system should be prepared. The electric heater and mixing tool for FIR radiation were developed in order to control the food waste fermentation. Also we suggest the optimum temperature 19$0^{\circ}C$, black enamel ware for food waste control.
Compaction of asphalt pavement is one of the important processes to make good quality one. There are many laboratory-compaction methods to simulate field compaction, including Marshall compaction, Hveem compaction, gyratory compaction, and etc. The most common method used to determine the fundamental properties of asphalt mixture for design is Marshall method which is using impact energy. However, there is major difference between field compaction using kneading compaction and Marshall compaction using impact energy. Therefore, the gyratory compactor, which currently is the best to simulate the field compaction, was employed. The fundamental properties of asphalt specimen compacted by gyratory compactor and Marshall compactor were determined using laboratory test. From the tests, slag mixture with carbon black or pyrolyzed carbon black showed better performances, such as, in low susceptibility to temperature, high resistance against water and rutting, and high resilient modulus and indirect tensile strength.
The thermal death kinetics of the Black timber bark beetle, Xylosandrus germanus, was investigated to develop a heat treatment for control of infested wood packing materials used to export goods. To determine the feasibility of microwave irradiation as an alternative control method, laboratory experiments irradiating wooden blocks of Douglas fir ($200{\times}200{\times}250mm$), which were artificially infested with adults, with 2.45 GHz of microwave energy. All (100%) Ambrosia beetle adults were killed by both hot water treatments and microwave irradiation at $52^{\circ}C$ and $58^{\circ}C$, respectively. Probit analyses estimated the internal wood temperature required to produce Probit (0.99) efficacy to be $64.7^{\circ}C$ (95% CI $62.4-69.9^{\circ}C$) at one minute after microwave treatment.
Tea is the most widely consumed beverage after water in the world. The consumption of iced tea has increased in Western countries and spiked among teenagers for enjoyment, freshening up and alertness. A teenager presented with symptoms of hepatitis. Liver ultrasound revealed sludge in the gallbladder. Laboratory investigations excluded all known causes of hepatotoxicity. Detail nutritional history revealed that the patient had been drinking 1.5-2 liters of black iced tea per day for the last three months. He was immediately advised to stop drinking any tea. Gradually all symptoms disappeared and two months after discontinuation of the tea, all liver enzymes returned to normal and the sludge in the gallbladder disappeared. This case report underlines the importance of a meticulous assessment of a child's dietary behavior when investigating a case of hepatotoxicity and raises awareness about the potential side effects of tea overconsumption.

The effect of bloating and fluxing agent on the microstructure and physical properties were studied in manufacturing the artificial lightweight aggregates of bulk density below] using clay and stone sludge. In case of the aggregates added only with bloating agent, the bulk density and water absorption were $0.5{\sim}1.0$ and $41{\sim}110%$ respectively but the microstucture was not uniform with a rough appearance. For the aggregates added with a fluxing agent and one bloating agent, a part of shell was lost due to explosion of specimen caused by over-bloating during a sintering. The mixed addition of bloating agents with vacuum oil, carbon and ${Fe_2}{O_3}$ made the microstructure homogeneous by generating an uniform black core and shell structure. The aggregates added with mixed agents and sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ showed the bulk density 67 % lower and water absorption 48 times higher than those of the specimen with no additives. ]n this study, the artificial lightweight aggregates showing the bulk density of $0.5{\sim}1.0$ and water absorption of $50{\sim}125%$ could be fabricated to apply to various fields.
Experiments were performed to investigate changes in metabolic rate (MO2), critical oxygen saturation (Scrit) and hematological parameters of black rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli exposed to hypoxia at 15, 20 and 25℃. The MO2 was measured at an interval of 10 min using intermittent-flow respirometry. The normoxic standard metabolic rate (SMR) was 116.5±5.5, 188.6±4.2 and 237.4±6.8 mg O2/kg/hr, and Scrit was 22.1±1.2, 30.6±1.5 and 41.9±1.4% air saturation at 15, 20 and 25℃, respectively. Q10 values were 2.62 between 15 and 20℃, 1.58 between 20 and 25℃, and 2.04 over the full temperature range. In the investigation of blood (hematocrit and hemoglobin) and biochemical parameters (plasma cortisol, glucose, electrolyte and osmolality), the rockfish were subjected to Scrit for each temperature during 4 hr. All of hematological parameters of the rockfish exposed to hypoxic water were significantly higher than those of normoxic control. Moreover, blood and biochemical parameters of the rockfish maintained to normoxic water showed the tendency of increase with temperature, and were significantly higher at 25C. As a result of this experiment, it was found that physiological stress due to hypoxia increased at high temperature.
To assay for antioxidant capacity of natural products considered important in producing human health benefits, a practical and economical method using pellet techniques was developed. A standard visualizing reagent, 1,1diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), was mixed with a water-miscible polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), serving as a solid phase support for the DPPH reagent. A DPPH pellet was prepared by dropping a small volume of the DPPH solution onto PET film, and drying in an oven. The PVA-based DPPH pellet was dissolved into water, in which the water-miscible PVA plays as a non-ionic surfactant to help the DPPH reagent to be dissolved into the solvent. Using the DPPH assay, the antioxidant capacity of water-soluble extracts of black soybean, barley, green tea, and green gram was examined. Among the natural products tested, green tea showed the highest antioxidant capacity. This PVA-based DPPH antioxidant assay can be further applied in the natural food, raw plant material, and health product inspection field.
To evaluate the possibility of charcoal as Green Infrastructure (GI) materials, data such as moisture content, amount of adsorbed water, and amount of evaporation were collected. Some data from previous study were referenced to find out if correlations exist between results in this study and previous study. Only porosity was directly related to moisture content. Two mechanical charcoal had better abilities than traditional charcoal in all three categories. Mechanical black charcoal chips produced by National Forestry Cooperative Federation (NFCFC) adsorbed 333.3% of water in thirty minutes, 297.5% in five minutes, and evaporated around 75% water in four days. This ability is much higher than other five charcoal. Even though results of test showed various degrees and NFCFC was the best as GI materials, data of charcoal were also within acceptable range based on generally accepted characteristics of GI materials.
