And we have compared its BER performance with SIC's(Successive Interference Cancellation) and with PIC's(Parallel Interference Cancellation), which are the representative schemes in the subtractive interference cancellation. From the results, it is shown that PlC or HIC is effective for high data-rate users and SIC of HIC for low data-rate users to eliminate the interference. Regardless of the data rate, it is reasonable to use the HIC structure for WCDMA system to satisfy all of users' services. The reason is that the SIC scheme in front of HIC can guarantee the performance of low power users to cancel the serious interference caused by the high power users, while PIC in the rear of it can guarantee the performance of high power users to cancel the interference caused by the low power users.

  • In this paper, we investigate design criteria and the performance of the space-frequency bit-interleaved coded modulation (SF-BICM) systems in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. To determine the key parameters that affect the performance of SF-BICM, we derive the pairwise error probability (PEP) in terms of the determinant of the matrix corresponding to any two codewords. We prove that the bit-interleavers do the function of distributing the nonzero bits uniformly such that two or more nonzero bits are seldom distributed into the symbols that are transmitted in the same frequency bin. This implies that the bit-interleavers transform an SF-BICM system into an equivalent 1-antenna system. Based on this, we present design criteria of SFBICM systems that maximizes the diversity order and the coding gain. Then, we analyze the performance of SF-BICM for the case of 2-transmit antennas and 2-multipaths by deriving a frame error rate (FER) bound. The derived bound is accurate and requires only the distance spectrum of the constituent codes of SF-BICM. Numerical results reveal that the bound is tight enough to estimate the performance of SF-BICM very accurately.

  • In this paper, we design the hardware architecture of the BICM(Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation) module for next generation European broadcast system and implement the BICM module with DSP(Digital Signal Processor) TMS320C6474. Simulation result shows that the BER(Bit Error Rate) performance of the fixed-point BICM module using more than 8 bits is very similar to that of the floating-point BICM module.

  • This paper discusses the spectral efficiency and performance of asynchronous direct sequency spread spectrum multiple access systems strict bandwidth limitation by Nyquist filtering. The signal to noise plus interference ratio(SNIR) at the output from the correlation receiver is derived analytically taking the cross correlation characteristics of spreading sequences into account, and also an approximated SNIR of a simple form is presented for the systems employing Gold sequences. Based on the analyzed result of SNIR, bit error rate performance and spectral efficiency are also estimated. and at last, we analyzed improvement rate using RS, convolution as a method for improving functions.

  • This paper proposes a new motion estimation algorithm which takes into account the rate-distortion relation in encoding motion compensated error images. The proposed algorithm is based on a new block-matching criterion which is the function of not only the mean squared block-matching error but also the code length for the entropy coded motion vector. The proposed algorithm optimizes the trade-off between the bit rate for motion compensated error images and the bit rate for the motion vectors. Simulation results show that in the motion compensated image coding the proposed motion estimator improves the overall performance by 0.5 dB when compared to the motion estimator which uses MSE only.

  • This paper investigates the performance of interference-limited two-way transmission protocols in the Rayleigh fading channels. New lower bound of outage probability and approximate expression of bit error rate (BER) for three-phase two-way relaying (3P-TWR) protocol are derived in closed-form. These expressions are valid for arbitrary signal-to-noise ratio values, numbers of co-channel interferers and amajority of modulation formats employed in the practical system. Then a comparative study is developed for the performance of three two-way transmission protocols, i.e., direct transmission (DT) protocol, two-phase two-way relaying (2P-TWR) protocol and 3P-TWR protocol based on the asymptotic expressions of outage probability and BER. On the basis of the theoretical results, the thresholds on the strength (variance) of direct channel and target rate for the relative performance of different protocols are obtained and the effect of interferences at the terminal and relay on the relative performance is analyzed. The results present key insights on how to choose proper two-way transmission protocol with the knowledge of fading channels, required date rate and modulation format to optimize the system performance in the practical interference-limited scenarios. Simulation results are presented to validate the theoretical analysis.

  • The evaluation of coded error probabilities for antijam communication systems is usually difficult to do and, thus, easy-to-evaluate upper bounds are used. Since it is relatively easy to evaluate the cutoff rate for the coding channel, the coded bit error bounds for most antijam systems of interest can be easily expressed directly in terms of this cutoff rate parameter using the relationship between the bit error bounds and cutoff rate for AWGN channel. The key feature of these bounds is the decoupling of the coding aspects of the system from the remaining part of the communication system which includes jamming, suboptimum detectors, and arbitrary decoding metrics which may or may not use jammer state knowledge. In this paper the bit error bounds for the Trumpis coded FH/MFSK with an AWGN channel are translated into the corresponding bit error bounds for boradband and partial band noise jammer. And the impact of the side information about jammer state is also evaluated with these upper bounds. Although it is considered for the soft decision detector, it is also applicable to the hard decision detector.

  • in this paper, we analyze the effects of PN sequence phase on the multiple access interference (MAI) of multi-media multi-rate DS/CDMA system with variable spreading gain (VGS) scheme, and furthermore derive the bit error rate (BER) equation for MAI users with different powers and spreading gains. In the sequel, we verify the influences of deterministic sequences on the bit error rate performance. As the results of the bit error rate of a desired user against interfering users with different spreading gains and different transmit powers, it is shown that the domain factor to determine the MAI component could be different according to the data transmission rate of a desired user. We also show that any kind of PN sequence phase does not yield considerable advantage, unless $E_b/N_o$ is considerably greater than 10dB, since below that value AWGN dominates. However, when the higher $E_b/N_o$, the performance of both MSQCC/CO and CO/MSQCC criterion give the better results.

  • This paper examines the BER performance of the recently proposed half-symbol-rate-carrier (HSRC) offset quadrature phase-shift-keying (OQPSK) receiver for high-speed data communication. A modified demodulation technique using a bit-time period signal integration, the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the HSRC-OQPSK signal improves more than 4dB compared to that of a demodulation technique using a symbol-time period integration. This paper also examines the BER performance of modified demodulation with various band-limited channels modeled using low-pass filters, and the three different data-rate systems are simulated and compared with the performance of the system using the conventional demodulation technique.

  • This thesis presents a performance analysis algorithm that estimates erro performance of individual links, at the bit level, in an end-to-end digital connection using the model of 3-statte MarKov chain. The link model proposed the burst error behavior of each individual link. It also presents a method to concateante several individual links and extract a model for end-to-end digital connection. This resulting end-to-end model can be used to calculate performance parameters such as bit error rate(BER) and block error(BLER) for any block size.
