  • We have presented the evolutionary status of four detached double line spectroscopic eclipsing binaries which are CD Tau, CM Lac, HS Hya and ZZ Boo because the component stars of these binary systems still act as a single star. We determined the absolute dimensions of these binary systems using photometric and spectroscopic solutions from analysis of light curves and radial velocity curves. Using the luminosities, effective temperatures and masses we choose evolutionary tracks of these binary systems. Finally we obtained ages and metallicity of the stars. We found that CM Lac and HS Hya are very young stars and their ages are in range of 0.15-1.05 and 0.22-1.14 Gyrs. For CD Tau and ZZ Boo, they are older than the others and their age in range of 1.95-2.95 and 1.48-1.73 Gyrs.

  • Among the EA and semi-detached type binary systems, nineteen eclipsing binaries were investigated for their period variations from all of the collected times of minima available in the literature. After the period study of each individual binary, an attempt was made, in view of the linear ephemeris showing abrupt change in period, to give a physical interpretation to the combined observational result. The correlation between period changes and physical parameters of the investigated binary systems are discussed.

  • Close binary stars are so close that one component has an effect on the evolution of the other. But how do they form and evolve? This is an unsolved problem. One speculation is that the binary is a part of a hierarchical triple and its orbit shrinks due to interaction with the third component. Therefore, searching for and investigating tertiary components, especially close-in ones, in close binary stars are important for understanding their origin, as well as to test theories of star formation and stellar dynamical interaction.

  • Evolution of the Cosmos (ARCSEC). We have presented the evolutionary status of seven detached double line spectroscopic eclipsing binaries which are CD Tau, CM Lac, CW CMa, HS Hya, IT Cas, KM Hya, and ZZ Boo because the component stars in the binary systems still act as a single star. We determined the absolute dimensions of the binary systems using photometric and spectroscopic solutions by analyzing of the light curves and radial velocity curves. • The absolute dimensions and orbital elements of 66 near contact binaries, collected from literatures, have been analyzed to investigate the physical characteristics of the near contact binaries as well as co-relations among physical parameters. The relationship between the mass ratio and luminosity ratio of the near contact binary systems have been obtained as a $L_2/L_1{\approx}(M_2/M_1)^{1.45}$, which is similar to that of the early type contact binary system. The physical parameters of the new contact binaries show that the difference in mass, radius, luminosity and temperature between the primary and the secondary components for the F type NCBs are smaller than those for the A type NCBs. In H-R diagram, the components of the A types are located closer to the terminal age main sequence than those of the F types.

  • VV Cep-type long period spectroscopic-eclipsing binary AZ Cas has been observed for five years, 1985 Oct~1990 Feb, UBV at the Ilsan Station of Yonsei University Observatory. A total of 431 observations (U=129, B=142 and V=160) are made for 86 nights. Instrumental differential UBV and B-V light curves made with these observations cover phases nearly a half of one period. There is no appreciable light variation in V but in other two passbands a gradual decrease of the brightness is clearly noticed. The loss of light in B resulted in a reddening in $\Delta(B-V)$ by + 0.06 at phases between 0.4~0.5 as compared with that of at phase ~0.1. This intrinsic reddening arouses a question why at the orbital phase of the transit of a hot star in front of a cool M supergiant the heating of the facing hemisphere of M supergiant by the strong radiation from the B stat is absent. With regard to this unusual situation we propose a hypothesis that a large amount of gas stream of low temperature ejected from the surface of M supergiant component towards the B star dominates the brightness of B star and the reflection effect.

  • UBV observations of $\zeta$ Aur star 32 Cyg have been made at the Yonsei University Observatory using the 60-cm Goto relflector for five years, 1988-1992. Observations made during these years cover outside of eclipse phase only. No significant light variation which would represent the secondary eclipse of red supergiant by a hot main sequence star is found. The light levels in three passbands do not show any evidence of the proximate effect of this binary system. Some strong light variations, particularly in U, are discussed with no successful explanation.

  • We present results of a new high-resolution spectroscopic study of the RS CVn-type binary system EI Eridani (HD26337). We used high S/N ratio LSD profiles to measure a new RV orbit of the primary component and new orbital parameters. We found evidence of strong spectral line profile variations at time intervals indicating the existence of short-lived (few days) spots on the surface of the primary component. We measured a projected rotation velocity of star of 53.2 km/s.
