This paper proposes two control strategies for the bidirectional Z-source inverters (BZSI) supplied by batteries for electric vehicle applications. The first control strategy utilizes the indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) method to control the induction motor speed. The proposed speed control strategy is able to control the motor speed from zero to the rated speed with the rated load torque in both motoring and regenerative braking modes. The IFOC is based on PWM voltage modulation with voltage decoupling compensation to insert the shoot-through state into the switching signals using the simple boost shoot-through control method. The parameters of the four PI controllers in the IFOC technique are designed based on the required dynamic specifications. The second control strategy uses a proportional plus resonance (PR) controller in the synchronous reference frame to control the AC current for connecting the BZSI to the grid during the battery charging/discharging mode. In both control strategies, a dual loop controller is proposed to control the capacitor voltage of the BZSI. This controller is designed based on a small signal model of the BZSI using a bode diagram. MATLAB simulations and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed control strategies during motoring, regenerative braking and grid connection operations.
In this paper, a unified control strategy using the current space vector modulation (CSVM) technique is proposed and applied to a bidirectional three-phase DC/AC converter. The operation of the converter changes with the direction of the power flow. In the charging mode, it works as a buck type rectifier; and during the discharging mode, it operates as a boost type inverter, which makes it suitable as an interface between high voltage AC grids and low voltage energy storage devices. This topology has the following advantages: high conversion efficiency, high power factor at the grid side, tight control of the charging current and fast transition between the charging and discharging modes. The operating principle of the mode analysis, the gate signal generation, the general control strategy and the transition from a constant current (CC) to a constant voltage (CV) in the charging mode are discussed. The proposed control strategy has been validated by simulations and experimental results obtained with a 1kW laboratory prototype using supercapacitors as an energy storage device.
With high penetration of renewable energies, power electronic transformers (PETs) will be one of the most important infrastructures in the future power delivery and management system. In this study, an isolated bidirectional modular multilevel DC/DC converter is proposed for PET applications. A modular multilevel structure is adopted as switching valves to sustain medium voltages to achieve modular design and high reliability. Only one high-frequency transformer is used in the proposed converter, which significantly simplifies the circuit and galvanic insulation design. A dual-phase-shift modulation strategy is proposed to regulate the output power and achieve a simple voltage balancing control. A down-scaled (2 kW/20 kHz) prototype is constructed to demonstrate the proposed converter and verify the control strategy. The experimental results comply with the theoretical analysis well, with the highest power efficiency reaching 97.6%.
This paper presents a new hybrid multilevel converter topology, which consists of a combination of the series connected switched capacitor units with boost ability, and an H-bridge with T-type bidirectional switches. The proposed converter boosts the input voltage without any bulky inductors, and has the small number of components, which can make the size and cost of a power converter greatly reduced. The output filter size and harmonics are also reduced by the high quality multilevel output. In addition, there is no need for complicated methods to balance the capacitor voltage. Simulation and experimental results with a nine-level converter system are presented to validate the proposed topology and modulation method.
This paper describes the design, construction and implementation of matrix converter based on space vector modulation technique. The matrix converter provides sinusoidal input and output wave forms, bidirectional power flow, controllable input power factor and a compact design, compared to the VSI with diode rectification stage at the input. The implemented prototype of matrix converter is built using the exclusive IGBT module and has an input filter, overvoltage protection circuit and commutation means for overcoming practical issues. The good results tested using an induction motor are also presented.

This paper presents a new configuration for a three-phase multilevel voltage source inverter. The main bridge is built from a classical three-phase two-level inverter and three bidirectional switches. A variable DC-link employing two unequal DC voltage supplies and four switches is connected to the main circuit in such a way that the proposed inverter produces four levels in the output voltage waveform. In order to obtain the desired switching gate signals, the fundamental frequency staircase modulation technique is successfully implemented. Furthermore, the proposed structure is extended and compared with other types of multilevel inverter topologies. The comparison shows that the proposed inverter requires a smaller number of power components. For a given number of voltage steps N, the proposed inverter requires N/2 DC voltage supplies and N+12 switches connected with N+7 gate driver circuits, while diode clamped or flying capacitor inverters require N-1 DC voltage supplies and 6(N-1) switches connected with 6(N-1) gate driver circuits. A prototype of the introduced configuration has been manufactured and the obtained simulation and experimental results ensure the feasibility of the proposed topology and the validity of the implemented modulation technique.

The matrix converter provides sinusoidal input and output wave forms, bidirectional power flow, controllable input power factor and a long life, compared to the VSI(Voltage Source Inverter) with diode rectification stage at the input. However it has tasks, such as complexity of the control method, ride-through problem and low voltage-ratio limitation, to overcome for commercializing, This paper describes the design, construction and implementation of matrix converter based on space vector modulation technique. The implemented prototype of matrix converter is built using the exclusive IGBT module and control circuit constituted with DSP and CPLD and it has an input filter, overvoltage protection circuit and commutation means for overcoming practical issues. The good results tested using an induction motor are also presented.
In this paper, a novel high gain bidirectional modular dc-dc converter (BMC) with unipolar and bipolar structures for dc network interconnections is proposed. When compared with traditional dc grid-connecting converters, the proposed converter can achieve a high voltage gain with a simple modular transformerless structure. A sub-modular structure for the BMC is proposed to eliminate the unbalanced current stress between the different power units (levels) in the BMC. This can realize current sharing and standardized production and assembling. In addition, phase-interval operation is introduced to the sub-modules to realize low voltage and current ripple in both sides of the converter. Furthermore, two types of bipolar topologies of the sub-modular BMC were proposed to extend its application in bipolar dc network connections. In addition, the control system was optimized for grid-connection applications by providing various control strategies. Finally, simulations of a 3-level unipolar sub-modular BMC and a 4-level bipolar sub-modular BMC were conducted, and a 1-kW experimental 3-level unipolar prototype was developed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

In this paper, we proposed new method of a bidirectional WDM-PON transmission using suppressed optical carreir(SOC) and reflective semi-conductor optical amplifier(RSOA) based on WDM-PON. while LiNbO3 mach zehnder modulator(LN-MZM) generates 5GHz modulated SOC for uplink at central office(CO), RSOA at CO modulates the downstream data. At optical network units(ONUs), Another RSOA modulates the SOC light source for uplink at ONU and uplink data are up-converted to the 5 GHz already modulated SOC using LN-MZM.

The hot electron induced effective channel length modulation (${\Delta}L_{H}$) and HEIP characteristics in PMOSFET's after bidirectional stress are presented. Trapped electron charges in gate oxide and lateral field are calculated from the gate current model, and ${\Delta}L_{H}$(${\Delta}L_{HD},\;{\Delta}L_{HS}$) is calculated using trapped electron charges and lateral field. It has been found that ${\Delta}I_{d}$and ${\Delta}L_{H}$ are more affected by the stress order (Forward-Reverse of Reverse or Reverse-Forward) than the stress direction, and they vary logarithmically with the stress time. In contrast, ${\Delta}V_{t}$ and ${\Delta}V_{pt}$ are more affected by the stress direction thatn the stress order. The correlation between ${\Delta}V_{pt}$ and the stress time can be explanined as the following polynomial functin: ${\Delta}V_{pt}$=AT$^{n}$. It has also been shown that PMOSFET degradation is related with the gate current and the effects of ${\Delta}V_{pt}$ is the most significant.
