The FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC mission is a micro satellite mission to deploy a constellation of six micro satellites at low Earth orbits. The final mission orbit is of an altitude of 750-800 lan. It is a collaborative Taiwan-USA science experiment. Each satellite consists of three science payloads in which the GPS occultation experiment (GOX) payload will collect the GPS signals for the studies of meteorology, climate, space weather, and geodesy. The GOX onboard FORMOSAT -3 is designed as a GPS receiver with 4 antennas. The fore and aft limb antennas are installed on the front and back sides, respectively, and as well as the two precise orbit determination (POD) antennas. The precise orbit information is needed for both the occultation inversion and geodetic research. However, the instrument associated errors, such as the antenna phase center offset and even the different cable delay due to the geometric configuration of fore- and aft-positions of the POD antennas produce error on the orbit. Thus, the focus of this study is to investigate the impact of POD antenna parameter on the determination of precise satellite orbit. Furthermore, the effect of the accuracy of the determined satellite orbit on the retrieved atmospheric and ionospheric parameters is also examined. The CHAMP data, the FORMOSAT-3 satellite and orbit parameters, the Bernese 5.0 software, and the occultation data processing system are used in this work. The results show that 8 cm error on the POD antenna phase center can result in ~8 cm bias on the determined orbit and subsequently cause 0.2 K deviation on the retrieved atmospheric temperature at altitudes above 10 lan.
There has not been enough distribution of documentary evidence of origin at the stage of domestic transaction yet due to the exporter bias of interest in utilizing FTA and shortage of attracting their issues, etc. although about more ten years has passed since Korea-Chile FTA was running. Furthermore, in case of issued and distributed documentary evidence of origin, the accuracy was doubt, so it contains various problems like errors in the certificate of origin issued by the final exporter. Accordingly, this study was to find out the limitations of 'declaration of origin third party confirmation system' operated in order to solve problems of lacking the management ability of origin place of the domestic supplier and improve the accuracy of certificate of origin (comprehensive), and to investigate a method of improvement. To achieve this, this study was to suggest the institutional complementary plans for distribution activation and error prevention on the declaration of origin and introduction plan of loss prevention plan due to the errors in the certificate of origin that the final exporter did not intend in the domestic areas in order to support the use of FTA smoothly for our enterprises.

To produce a level-3 monthly composite image from daily level-2 Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) chlorophyll-a concentration data set in the East Sea, we applied four average methods such as the simple average method, the geometric mean method, the maximum likelihood average method, and the weighted averaging method. Prior to performing each averaging method, we classified all pixels into normal pixels and abnormal speckles with anomalously high chlorophyll-a concentrations to eliminate speckles from the following procedure for composite methods. As a result, all composite maps did not contain the erratic effect of speckles. The geometric mean method tended to underestimate chlorophyll-a concentration values all the time as compared with other methods. The weighted averaging method was quite similar to the simple average method, however, it had a tendency to be overestimated at high-value range of chlorophyll-a concentration. Maximum likelihood method was almost similar to the simple average method by demonstrating small variance and high correlation (r=0.9962) of the differences between the two. However, it still had the disadvantage that it was very sensitive in the presence of speckles within a bin. The geometric mean was most significantly deviated from the remaining methods regardless of the magnitude of chlorophyll-a concentration values. Its bias error tended to be large when the standard deviation within a bin increased with less uniformity. It was more biased when data uniformity became small. All the methods exhibited large errors as chlorophyll-a concentration values dominantly scatter in terms of time and space. This study emphasizes the importance of the speckle removal process and proper selection of average methods to reduce composite errors for diverse scientific applications of satellite-derived chlorophyll-a concentration data.

Most of reconstruction algorithms for the calculation of temperature distributions in CT (computed tomography)-TDLAS (tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy) are based upon two-line thermometry method. This method gives unstable calculation convergence due to signal noise, bias error, and signal mis-matches. In this study, a new reconstruction algorithm based on cross-correlation for temperature calculation is proposed. The patterns of the optical signals at all wave lengths were used to reconstruct the temperature distribution. Numerical test has been made using phantom temperature distributions. Using these phantom temperature data, absorption spectra for all wave lengths were constructed, and these spectra were regarded as the signals that would be obtained in an actual experiments. Using these virtually generated experimental signals, temperature distribution was once again reconstructed, and was compared with those of the original phantom data. Calculation errors obtained by the newly proposed algorithm were slightly large at high temperatures with small errors at low temperature.

The present paper describes an application of UA(Uncertainty Analysis) to seakeeping model test, basically according to the Performance Test Code of ASME(American Society of Mechanical Engineers), in which all the possible error sources involved in the preparation of test, calibration of instruments, data acquisition and analysis are quantified, and summed up with error propagation coefficients to the final uncertainties. The differences between the static test such as resistance and propulsion test and the dynamic test like seakeeping test are clearly identified during all the procedures of UA and asymmetric bias errors are considered. The DRE(data reduction equation) subject to present UA are the heave and pitch response amplitude operator and nondimensionalized absolute frequency. The usefulness of UA in seakeeping test were confirmed not only for quantifying errors and improving measurement accuracy but also for the validation of various seakeeping analysis tools.
Radar measurement with high temporal and spatial resolutions can be a valuable source of data, especially in the areas where rain gauge installment is not practical. However, this kind of data brings with it many errors. The objective of this paper is to propose a method to evaluate statistically the quantitative and qualitative accuracy at different radar ranges, temporal intervals and raingage densities and use a bias adjustment technique to improve the quality of radar rainfall for the purpose of hydrological application. The method is tested with the data of 2 storm events collected at Jindo (S band) and Kwanak (C band) radar stations. The obtained results show that the accuracy of radar rainfall estimation increases when time interval rises. Radar data at the shorter range seems to be more accurate than the further one, especially for C-band radar. Using the Monte Carlo simulation experiment, we find out that the sampling error of the bias between radar and gauge rainfall reduces nonlinearly with increasing raingage density. The accuracy can be improved considerably if the real-time bias adjustment is applied, making adjusted radar rainfall to be adequately good to apply for hydrological application.
Global Positioning System (GPS) Precise Point Positioning (PPP) has been extensively used for geodetic applications. Since December 2012, BeiDou navigation satellite system has provided regional positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services over the Asia-Pacific region. Recently, many studies on BeiDou system have been conducted, particularly in the area of precise orbit determination and precise positioning. In this paper PPP method based on BeiDou observations are presented. GPS and BeiDou data obtained from Mokpo (MKPO) station are processed using the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) PPP software. The positions are derived from the GPS PPP, BeiDou B1/B2 PPP and BeiDou B1/B3 PPP, respectively. The position errors on BeiDou PPP show a mean bias < 2 cm in the east and north components and approximately 3 cm in the vertical component. It indicates that BeiDou PPP is ready for the precise positioning applications in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, BeiDou tropospheric zenith total delay (ZTD) is compared to GPS ZTD at MKPO station. The mean value of their difference is approximately 0.52 cm.

We consider estimating the proportion of true null hypotheses in multiple testing problems. A traditional multiple testing rate, family-wise error rate is too conservative and old to control type I error in multiple testing setups; however, false discovery rate (FDR) has received significant attention in many research areas such as GWAS data, FMRI data, and signal processing. Identify differentially expressed genes in microarray studies involves estimating the proportion of true null hypotheses in FDR procedures. However, we need to account for unknown dependence structures among genes in microarray data in order to estimate the proportion of true null hypothesis since the genuine dependence structure of microarray data is unknown. We compare various procedures in simulation data and real microarray data. We consider a hidden Markov model for simulated data with dependency. Cai procedure (2007) and a sliding linear model procedure (2011) have a relatively smaller bias and standard errors, being more proper for estimating the proportion of true null hypotheses in simulated data under various setups. Real data analysis shows that 5 estimation procedures among 9 procedures have almost similar values of the estimated proportion of true null hypotheses in microarray data.
Current series for testing stock market cointegrations tend to be restricted to analyzing the relations between stock market prices and may not be able to understand the whole picture of the variations in the stock market system. The nature of the variations in the stock prices, between the countries that experienced economic crisis and those did not, are different for a certain period of time, and accordingly excluding the potentially important variables in the stock market system causes statistical bias. This study considers domestic foreign exchange markets and financial markets in testing for the cointegrating relations of the stock prices in Korea and major investing countries. The results demonstrate the possibility of specification errors unless those markets are included in the statistical modeling process.
This paper presents considerations on the results of the rotating arm test, which was carried out for assessment of an hybrid navigation system for a semi-autonomous underwater vehicle. The navigation system consists of an inertial measurement unit(IMU), an ultra-short baseline(USBL) acoustic navigation sensor and a doppler velocity log(DVL) accompanying a magnetic compass. A navigational systemmodel is derived to include the scale effect and bias errors of the DVL, of which the state equation composed of the navigation states and sensor parameters are 25 in the order. The extended Kalman filter was used to propagate the error covariance, The rotating arm tests were carried out in the Ocean Engineering Basin of KRISO, to generate circular motion. The hybrid underwater navigation system shows good tracking performance against the circular planar motion. Additionally this paper checked the effects of the sampling ratio of the navigation system and the possibility of the dead reckoning with the DVL and the magnetic compass to estimate the position of the vehicle.
