  • Many epidemiological studies have revealed that the use of aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can reduce the risk of colon cancer. Since the well-documented pharmacological action of aspirin and other NSAIDs is the inhibition of cyclooxygenase [COX, the rate-limiting enzyme in prostaglandin (PG) biosynthesis], it has been inferred that the beneficial effect of NSAIDs may be mediated through the inhibition of PG biosynthesis.(omitted)

  • Since 1966 tissue culture has been used as a tool for the production of disease indexed stocks from selected plants and their rapid (clonal) mass propagation through the procedure now referred to as micropropagation. The major advantages have been the rapid introduction of new plant cultivars, created within conventional and mutation breeding programmes, as healthy stock for beneficial distribution and the expansion of the world wide horticultural industry. • Conducting polymers have been attracting considerable attention from both scientific and industrial perspectives by virtue of the beneficial electrical and optical properties originating from their unique ${\pi}-conjugated$ system. Many efforts have been devoted toward fabricating conducting polymer nanomaterials. Of the various synthetic methodologies, soft template method has emerged as a very promising tool in fabricating conducting polymer nanomaterials. For last a few years, our research group has intensively studied the fabrication and application of conducting polymer nanomaterials. In this talk, the recent achievement in the synthetic methodology based on the use of soft templates will be discussed.

  • In order to obtain the most practical and economically efficient method for refining of kenaf fiber and the production possibility of bag dproucts by using kenaf, Various chemicals and conditions of treatment for refining of kenaf bark were examined. Refining by the retting method was found much beneficial in quality of fiber and in processing cost than the chemical mettled. Bag products by using kenaf bark has good quality , and for practical use, Even if the production cost is slightly more expensive than jute bag, it could be reduced by planned mass production.

  • Metallic microwires are a promising material for use as a filler in various conductive composite structures. Because of their high anisotropy in shape, a low percolation threshold could be achieved, which is beneficial to a low-cost fabrication and better electrical conductivity even under an extremely low solid content. Here we developed a facile method to fabricate the Cu (core)-Ni (shell) microwires.

  • Lactic acid producing bacteria were isolated from baby feces and characterized to be used as a probiotic with anti Helicobacter pylori functions. The selected bacteria had inhibition activity on the adherance and growth of H. pylori. These bacteria had additional beneficial characteristics for the probiotic such as antibacterial activity, antitumor activity, immunostimulation activity, resistance to antibiotic and bile salt, ability to bind to the intestinal cells, and safe for the human use.

  • Objective: A single-patient case study on the use of OCNT for cervical spinal stenosis. Methods: A50-year-old Korean male with frequent leg muscle cramps and severe muscle weakness was treated with OCNT. Results: After OCNT, pain and cramps disappeared, and muscle strength improved to the point of no longer hindering daily activities. Conclusion: OCNT can be beneficial in alleviating symptoms of pain and muscle weakness in patients with cervical spinal stenosis.

  • As one of traditional packaging materials, paper and paperboard are being more popular and beneficial thanks to their environmental sustainability and have been widely used in packaging applications, from light weight infusible tissue for tea/coffee bags to heavy duty boards for the distribution. Papermakers have to design the products having a desired customized function with their paper machine. Globally, the use of filler and pigment in papermaking is now a very common practice to meet the needs of customers. Many benefits can be achieved as a result of filler addition, which mainly includes cost and energy savings. The replacement of traditional mineral fillers and pigments with biodegradable and renewable carbohydrate polymers is a very interesting and promising research topic due to the concern of environmental impact. In this review paper, the use of traditional and novel carbohydrate fillers and pigments in cellulosic paper is highlighted. It is noteworthy that there are still some challenges and technical barriers associated with the use of these organic materials in point of structural stabilities and manufacturing costs, although most of them are available in market as the commercialized products. With the emerging nanotechnologies, it is believed that the use of carbohydrate-based filler and pigment for papermaking will increase and bring technical advantages to industry.

  • This study aims to identify the beneficial effects of forest experience on emotional changes in young children who are exposed to smartphones in daily life. This research was conducted on 41 children aged five and six years at a kindergarten in Chungcheongnamdo province. The children participated in a five-month forest experience program, conducted twice a week. Before beginning the study, its purpose and procedure were explained to the children's parents and kindergarten teachers, after which written content was collected. Before and after the five-month experience, questionnaires about smartphone use and emotional conditions were administered through the parents. The participants were divided into two groups, namely average-use and high-use groups, depending on the smartphone addiction proneness score. It was found that negative psychological subscales such as anxiety, impulse, and depression decreased following the five-month forest experience in both groups. Positive psychological attitudes such as sociability and creativity increased significantly after the forest experience. The high-use group showed a wider range of positive changes compared to the average-use group. Accordingly, forest experiences can be used as an effective solution for smartphone addiction problems among young children.

  • This study examines the effects of data-driven learning (DDL)-an approach employing corpora for inductive language pattern learning-on error identification in second language (L2) writing. The data consists of error identification instances from fifty-five participants, compared across different reference materials: the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA), dictionaries, and no use of reference materials. There are three significant findings. First, the use of COCA effectively identified collocational and form-related errors due to inductive inference drawn from multiple example sentences. Secondly, dictionaries were beneficial for identifying lexical errors, where providing meaning information was helpful. Finally, the participants often employed a strategic approach, identifying many simple errors without reference materials. However, while maximizing error identification, this strategy also led to mislabeling correct expressions as errors. The author has concluded that the strategic selection of reference materials can significantly enhance the effectiveness of error identification in L2 writing. The use of a corpus offers advantages such as easy access to target phrases and frequency information-features especially useful given that most errors were collocational and form-related. The findings suggest that teachers should guide learners to effectively use appropriate reference materials to identify errors based on error types.
