The very large container ships have been built recently and those ships have very small structural rigidity compared with the other conventional ships. As a result, the destruction of ship hull is occurred by the springing including to warping phenomena due to encounter waves. In this study, the solutions of hydrodynamic coefficients are obtained by solving the three dimensional source distribution method and the forward speed Green function representing a translating and pulsating source potential for infinite water depth is used to calculating the integral equation. The vessel is longitudinally divided into various sections and the added mass, wave damping and wave exciting forces of each section is calculated by integrating the dynamic pressures over the mean wetted section surface. The equations for six degree freedom of motions is obtained for each section in the frequency domain and stiffness matrix is calculated by Euler beam theory. The computations are carried out for very large ship and effects of bending and torsional ridigity on the wave frequency and angle are investigated.

In this study, the second order bending moment induced by sea waves is calculated using the quadratic strip theory. The theory has the fluid forcing terms including the quadratic terms of the hydrodynamic forces and the Froude-Krylov forces. They are applied to a ship as the external forces in order to estimate the second order ship responses by fluid forces. The sensitivity of the second order bending moment is investigated by implementing the quadratic terms by varying the ship side angle for two example ships. As a result, it was found that the second order bending moment changes significantly by the variation of the ship side angle. It implies that increased flare angles at the bow and the stern of ships being enlarged would amplify their vertical bending moments considerably due to the quadratic terms and may make them vulnerable to the fatigue.
In the present study, an offshore platform having large partial porous cylindrical members, which are composed of permeable and impermeable cylinders, is suggested. In order to calculate the wave force on large partial porous cylindrical members, the fluid domain is divided into three regions: a single exterior region, N inner regions and N beneath regions, and the scattering wave in each fluid region is expressed by an Eigen-function expansion method. Applying Darcy's law to the porous boundary condition, the effect of porosity is simplified. Wave excitation forces and wave run up on the structures are presented for various wave conditions. For the idealized three-dimensional platform having large partial porous cylindrical members, the dynamic response evaluations of the platform due to wave forces are carried out through the modal analysis. In order to examine the effects of soil-structure interaction, the substructure method is also applied. The displacement and bending stress at the selective nodal points of the structure are computed using various input parameters, such as the shear-wave velocity of soil, the wave height and the wave period. Applying the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method, the reliability evaluations at critical structure members, which contained uncertainties caused by dynamic forces and structural properties, are examined by the reliability index with the results obtained from MCS.
Recently, offshore structures for eco-friendly energy, such as wind and solar power, have been developed to address the problem of insufficient land space; in the case of energy generation, they are designed on a considerable scale. Therefore, the scalability of offshore structures is crucial. The Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) developed multi-linked floating offshore structures composed of floating bodies and connection beams for floating photovoltaic systems. Large-scale floating photovoltaic systems are mainly designed in a manner that expands through the connection between modules and demonstrates a difference in structural response with connection conditions. A fluid-structure coupled analysis was performed for the multi-linked floating offshore structures. First, the wave load acting on the multi-linked offshore floating structures was calculated through wave load analysis for various wave load conditions. The response amplitude operators (RAOs) for the motions and structural response of the unit structure were calculated by performing finite element analysis. The effects of connection conditions were analyzed through comparative studies of RAOs and the response's maximum magnitude and occurrence location. Hence, comparing the cases of a hinge connection affecting heave and pitch motions and a fixed connection, the maximum bending stress of the structure decreased by approximately 2.5 times, while the mooring tension increased by approximately 20%, confirmed to be the largest change in bending stress and mooring tension compared to fixed connection. Therefore, the change in structural response according to connection condition makes it possible to design a higher structural safety of the structural member through the hinge connection in the construction of a large-scale multi-linked floating offshore structure for large-scale photovoltaic systems in which some unit structures are connected. However, considering the tension of the mooring line increases, a safety evaluation of the mooring line must be performed.
In this paper, the procedure of generation and application of nonlinear wave loads for structural design of large container carrier was described. Ship motion and wave load was calculated by modified strip method. Pressure acting on wetted hull surface was calculated taking into account of relative hull motion to the wave. Design wave height was determined based on the most sensitive wave length considering rule vertical wave bending moment at head sea or fellowing sea condition. And the enforced heeling angie concept which was introduced by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) classification had been used to simulate high torsional moment in way of fore hold parts similar to actual sea going condition. Using wave load generated from this dynamic load calculation, FE analyses were performed. With this result, yielding, buckling, hatch diagonal deflection and fatigue strength of hatch corners were reviewed based on the requirement of GL classification. The results of FE analysis show good compatibility with GL classification.
Tire noise is a major noise source at high speeds. One of the noise source is controlled by pattern and structure. Pattern noise is effected by the shape of tread. And the bending stiffness of tire is influenced to the resonance of tire‘s belt. But in high frequency region, FEA is not appropriated with application. So this paper discusses about wave propagation of tire. There has been much effort to verify the flexural wave velocity with structure design specification.
The floor impact noise of concrete structures in apartments buildings is affected from the flexural wave propagation characteristics. Accordingly, the measurement of wave propagation characteristics is required for suggestion of efficient method to reduce the impact noise. The purpose of this article is to propose an experimental technique to measure dynamic properties of concrete structures. The method was proposed using the flexural wave propagation characteristics. Wave speeds, bending stiffness and their loss factors are estimated from which the vibration dissipation capabilities are investigated. Several different concrete beam structures were custom-built for measurement. The damping treatments using viscoelastic materials for reducing noise generation are also tested. The beam transfer function of the damped beam is predicted using the compressional damping model from which the mechanism of the vibration energy dissipation is investigated.
In this paper, the motion response and wave load of a container ship are treated by a nonlinear motion theory, which is similar to that used by Yamamoto et. al.[1]. This paper deals with the vertical motion response in oblique waves and the effect of the Smith correction in buoyancy force calculation. In the present computation, for S-175 container ship model our result also shows that the ratio of the motion peak to peak value to the wave height decreases as the wave height increases, which was obtained earlier by Yamamoto et.al.[3]. On the other hand the nondimensional midship bending moment increases as the wave height increases. These nonlinear effects are dominant near the resonance frequency, and depend on the hull form and forward speed. However, it is found that these nonlinear effects are significant for tanker model.
Piezoelectric motors have been successfully developed for various applications like autofocus drives in camera lenses and handling equipment for high-accuracy positioning. In this paper, the travelling-wave motor which used in the camera lense, using bending vibration of a ring was studied. The basic structure of the motor is same but we suggested a few parameters for considering their design. The parameter is different from sine and cosine region of the voltage of the ceramic surface, displacement according to the wave number difference, and the phase difference. Same size of ceramics and aluminium ring were used for the stator. As a result, the displacement is dependent on the wave number.

It is normal practice to consider bending wave modes only, when one applies SEA (Statistical Energy Analysis) to ship structures because of complexities in SEA modeling and evaluation of coupling loss factors for inplane modes. According to the result of Tratch[1], the inplane wave modes becomes important for the analysis of a foundation structure as the distance from the source and receiver increases. In this paper, the effect of inplane wave modes on structure-borne noise propagation in ship structures is presented. It is shown that the inplane wave could increase the noise level more than 10 dB compared with the results without inplane wave modes at high frequency bands for compartments far from the source location.
