  • The effect of coal tar ptch-impregnated carbon materials which were made from petroleum coke was investigated at various pressure time and impregnation-sintering cycle. As a result, density and bending strength of the carbon materials were remarkably increased in the condition of pressure times of 5hrs and of the cycle of 3rd times. And the value of d002 and Lc of the graphitic carbon sintered at 230$0^{\circ}C$ shwoed 3.387$\AA$ and 167$\AA$, respectively.

  • The behavior of properties of ion exchanged substrate glasses was investigated in this study. In order to study the effects of ion exchange, ion exchange behavior with ion penetration depth, amount of ion exchange, density and thermal expansion was measured according to the time and temperature. The mechanical properties were evaluated by the three point bending test and curvature change, and then fracture patterns were investigated by optical microscope.

  • Vibration problems in the Hard Disk Drive which is magnetic recording device have been raised gradually while HDD is required high density and low access time. As a typical thing, lateral bending or sway mode of supension causes tracking error, and therefore it is necessary to identify the accurate vibration characteristics of that mode. In this study, as the solution of vibration problem, decoupling sway mode and vicinity mode is dealt with. Shifting sway mode to high frequency region is studied.

  • Explicit dynamic finite element analysis has been used widely in the field of sheet metal forming. However in using the analysis technique there are some parameters which are not clearly defined so that engineers may obtain inaccurate solutions In the present study parameters such as time step damping ratio penalty constant and punch speed were investigated on their influence to the solution behavior. Considered forming processes are plane stain bending by a punch and axisymmetric deep drawing.

  • Light losses in optical fibers are investigated by a fiber optic OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry) sensor system to develop fiber optic probes for structural displacement measurement. The displacement sensitivity was determined by the measurements of fiber-bending loss according to the gage length changes of the displacement sensor. The fiber optic displacement probe was manufactured to verify the feasibility of the structural displacement measurement.

  • Dynamic stability of an oscillating cantilever plate is investigated in this paper. The equations of motion include harmonically oscillating parameters which originate from the motion-induced stiffness variation. Using the multiple scale perturbation method is employed to obtain a stability diagram. The tability diagram shows that relatively large unstable regions exist when the frequency of oscillation is near twice the frequencies of the 1st torsion natural mode and the 1st chordwide bending mode.

  • Most PM components are exposed to cyclic loading over long periods of time, yet, the fatigue performance is often at best characterized by a fully reversed bending strength. The effects of density, deviating loading modes, external notches or mean stresses must usually be estimated. The amount of available data is nowadays sufficient to come to fact-based estimates.

  • Endodontic rotary NiTi(Nickel-Titanium) files have several advantages, but they also have some problems. Fracture of instrument is the one of the problems. Cyclic fatigue fracture may not give a previous sign(ex, bending or distortion of the files) before it happen. It is affected by various factors. This study investigated time which takes for cyclic fatigue fracture to happen and fracture patterns with regard to different NiTi files and pecking motion.(omitted)
