곡관출구로부터 방출되는 펄스파의 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Characteristics of the Impulsive Wave Discharged from the Open End of a Bend Pipe)

  • The current study depicts and experimental work of the impulsive wave discharged from the exit of several kinds of right-angle bend pipes, which are attached to the open end of a simple shock tube. The weak normal shock wave with Mach number from 1.02 to 1.20 is employed to obtain the impulsive wave propagating outside the exit of the pipe bends. The experimental data of the magnitude of the impulsive wave and its propagation directivity are analyzed to characterize the impulsive waves discharged from the right-angle bend pipes and compared with those from a straight pipe. The impulsive waves are visualized by a Schlieren optical system. A computation work using the two-dimensional, unsteady, compressible Euler equation is also carried out to represent the experimented impulsive waves. The results obtained show that a right-angle miter bend considerably reduces the magnitude of the impulsive wave and its directivity toward to the pipe axis, compared with the straight pipe. It is believed that the right angle miter bend pipe can play a role of passive control agianst the impulsive wave.

내압과 굽힘하중을 받는 가스배관의 변형특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Deformation Characteristics of Gas Pipeline under Internal Pressure and In-Plane Bending Load)

  • This paper investigates deformation characteristics of gas pipeline using the in-plane bending experiment and finite element analysis of a pipe bend. The effect of the bending angle and internal pressure on the deformation characteristics is analyzed. The pipe bend used in this study is API 5L X65 (out diameter: 20 inch) material with the thickness of 11.9 mm. The maximum load, displacement at maximum load, angle and local strain of 90° pipe bend are obtained from the in-plane bending experiment. Comparison between FE results and experimental data shows overall good agreements. In addition, the deformation characteristics of 22.5° and 45° pipe bend are calculated using the finite element analysis. As a result, the effect of the bend angle on the deformation characteristics is discussed.

케이블 컨듀잇 굽힘 센서의 선형 특성 분석 및 켈리브레이션 (Linearity Analysis and Calibration of a Cable-Conduit Bend Sensor)

  • Previous shape sensors including bend sensors and optic fiber based sensors are widely used in various applications including goniometer and surgical robots. But theses sensors have large nonlinearity, limited in the range of sensing curvature, and sometimes are expensive. This study suggests a new concept of bend sensor using cable-conduit which consists of the outer sheath and the inner wire. The outer sheath is made of helical coil whose length of the central line changes as the sheath bends. This length change of the central line can be measured with the length change of the inner cable. The modeling and the experimental results show that the output signal of the proposed sensor is linearly related with the bend angle of the sheath with root mean square error of 5.3% of $450^{\circ}$ sensing range. Also the polynomial calibration of the sensor can decrease the root mean square error to 2.1% of the full sensing range.

Web bend-buckling strength of plate girders with two longitudinal web stiffeners

  • More than one longitudinal web stiffener may be economical in the design of plate girders that have considerably high width-to-thickness ratio of webs. In this study, the bend-buckling strength of relatively deep webs with two horizontal lines of flat plate-shaped single-sided stiffeners was numerically investigated. Linear eigenvalue buckling analyses were conducted for specially selected hypothetical models of stiffened web panels, in which top and bottom junctions of a web with flanges were assumed to have simply supported boundary conditions. Major parameters in the analyses were the locations of two longitudinal stiffeners, stress ratios in the web, slenderness ratios and aspect ratios of web panels. Based on the application of assumptions on the combined locations of the two longitudinal web stiffeners, simplified equations were proposed for the bend-buckling coefficients and compared to the case of one longitudinal stiffener. It was found that bend-buckling coefficients can be doubled by adopting two longitudinal stiffeners instead of one longitudinal stiffener. For practical design purposes, additional equations were proposed for the required bending rigidity of the longitudinal stiffeners arranged in two horizontal lines on a web.

  • The springback characteristics of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet was investigated in OSU draw/bend test. Springback is the elastically-driven change of shape of a part after forming and it should be estimated and controlled to manufacture more precise products in sheet forming. The demands are increasing for magnesium alloy sheet press forming, but the study on its springback characteristics is insufficient. Strip draw/bend tests were conducted with various conditions - die radius, sheet thickness and controlled tensile force. The springback angles were measured from 'sidewall curl' of deformed shape. The tendency of springback angle was observed from the tests.

  • 순간적인 밸브의 개폐 등에 의해 생성된 압력파가 관의 만곡부를 지날 때 만곡부에 미치는 힘은 변화한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 힘의 변화량을 해석적으로 유도하였다. 본 해석에 의하면 힘의 변화량은 유체의 운동량 변화보다는 주로 정수압에 의해 결정되며, 압력파가 만곡각의 90$^{\circ}$ 이상인 만곡부를 지날 때에는 여기에 미치는 연직성분 힘의 방향이 바뀌는 것으로 나타났다.

Magnesium alloy sheets have unique mechanical properties such as high in-plane anisotropy/asymmetry of yield stress and hardening response. So, there will be a difference in the prediction of springback with symmetric mechanical properties for magnesium alloy sheets. In this work, the Strip draw/bend tests were conducted with various conditions - die radius, sheet thickness and controlled tensile force and the tendency of springback angle was observed from the tests.

배기계 진동해석에서의 굴곡부 모델링기법 (The Bend Modelling Technique in the Vibration Analysis of the Exhaust System)

  • When a pipe bend is modelled with straight beam elements, its stiffness, particularly in bending behavior, is overestimated than its true value. In this paper, we propose a simple and practical beam-modelling technique to estimate its stiffness properly. When this technique, based on the strain energy concept, is employed to modify the beam sectional properties of the bend, quite satisfactory results can be obtained. To verify the validity of this method, we apply the present technique to the free vibration analysis of a center pipe with 2 bends, one of the three components of the automobile exhaust system.

하천 만곡률과 홍수량에 따른 수면경사도 산정 (Estimation of the Water Surface Slope by the Flood Discharge with River Bend Curvature)

  • In this research, we made a one and two-dimensional analysis of numerical data collected from the bend curvature of a bended river section. According to the result from the numerical analysis, the inflow & output angle caused a water level deviation which increased with an increase of the flood discharge. From the water level deviation of our two-dimensional numerical model, we obtained the maximum slope of 6,67% when the inflow and output angle was 105 degrees and the flood discharge was 500 CMS. As for the right side, the differences with the one-dimensional numerical model were reduced when the angle was more than $90^{\circ}$. As for the left side the differences were reduced when the angle was more than $105^{\circ}$. For a river with more than 90 degrees bend curvature, a hydraulic experiment would be more appropriate than a numerical analysis.

  • Autofrettage analysis of a bend in the fuel injcetion pipe has been performed to investigate the distribution of residual stresses due to pipe bending and autofrettage processes. The pipe bending was simulated by metal forming analysis using finite element method, and residual stress distribution after bending was found. Autofrettage following the pipe bending was performed by applying the hydrostatic internal pressures of 603 MPa, 535 MPa, 500 MPa on the pipe bend, corresponding to theoretical 26 %, 14 %, 9 % overstrain levels, respectively. Residual stress distributions due to bending and autofrettage were evaluated.
