  • In this paper we discussed a new methodology for Urdu Character Recognition system using Dempster-Shafer theory which can powerfully estimate the similarity ratings between a recognized character and sampling characters in the character database. Recognition of character is done by five probability calculation methods such as (similarity, hamming, linear correlation, cross-correlation, nearest neighbor) with Dempster-Shafer theory of belief functions. The main objective of this paper is to Recognition of Urdu letters and numerals through five similarity and dissimilarity algorithms to find the similarity between the given image and the standard template in the character recognition system. In this paper we develop a method to combine the results of the different distance measurement methods using the Dempster-Shafer theory. This idea enables us to obtain a single precision result. It was observed that the combination of these results ultimately enhanced the success rate.

  • Neurodevelopmental treatment(NDT) is a widely used technique by physical and occupational therapists in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders. Childeren with cerebral palsy are frequently referred for physical and occupational therapy, yet the effectiveness of treatment has not been well-documented. More than 40 years ago, the Bobath introduced a treatment concept for individuals with central nervous system impairment. A theoretical framework for the approach was based on the common belief in the 1940s that the nervous system functions in a hierarchy. Clinical aspects of the NDT approach have grown and changed during the past 40 years. This article details the original NDT concepts and looks at the concept with regard to newer theoretical frameworks of nervous system.

  • In this paper, we developed the fault diagnostic expert system of silicone-immersed transformer using dissolved gas analysis. The knowledge base module consists of the knowledge using the rule: if Then . The inference engine uses the fuzzy rule for the management of uncertainty of the boundary and rule and derivate the Belief and Plausibility of the normality and fault using Dempster-Shafer theory. The expert system is connected to the database and it can manages the history of gas-data of the transformer.

  • We propose a novel simulation method for modeling the game of golf using SystemC, a system description language that allows modeling of a concurrent system's behavior. Utilizing the proposed simulator, we compare different outing formats of golf, namely, regular and shotgun, in terms of playing time. Our simulation results reveal that the shotgun format can take longer than the regular format if the number of groups in a golf course exceeds 33 for the scenario we tested, confirming the belief that the shotgun format can take longer than the regular format. We also justify our simulation by comparing the simulation and analytical results.

  • Expert system is one type of artificial intelligence softwares that incorporate problem-solving knowledges and experiences of human experts by use of symbolic reasoning and rules about a specific topic. In this study, an expert system, PLAYMAKER2, is used to interpret sedimentary facies and depositional settings of the sedimentary sequence. The original version of the expert system, PLAYMAKER, was developed in University of South Carolina in 1990, and modified into the present PLAYMAKER2 with some changes in the knowledge-base of the previous system. The late Cenozoic sedimentary sequence with maximum 10,000 m in thickness, which is located in the Korean Oil Exploration Block VI-1 at the southwestern margin of the Ulleung Basin, is analysed by the expert system, PLAYMAKER2. The Cenozoic sedimentary sequence is divided into two units-lower Miocene and upper Pliocene-Pleistocene sediments. The depositional settings and sedimentary facies of the Miocene sediments interpreted by PLAYMAKER2 in terms of belief values are: for depositional settings, slope; $57.4\%$, shelf; $21.4\%$, basin; $10.1\%$, and for sedimentary facies, submarine fan; $35.7\%$, continental slope; $26.3\%$, delta; $16.1\%$, deep basinplain; $6.1\%$ continental shelf; $3.2\%$, shelf margin; $1.4\%$. The depositional settings and sedimentary facies of the Pliocene-Pleistocene sediments in terms of belief values we: for depositional settings, slope; $59.0\%$, shelf; $22.8\%$, basin; $7.0\%$, and for sedimentary facies, delta; $24.1\%$, continental slope; $22.2\%$, submarine fan; $17.3\%$, continental shelf; $7.0\%$, deep basinplain; $4.8\%$, shelf margin; $2.6\%$. The comparison of the depositional settings and sedimentary facies consulted by PLAYMAKER2 with those of the classical interpretation from previous studies shows resonable similarity for the both sedimentary units-the lower Miocene sediments and the upper Pliocene-Pleistocene sediments. It demonstrates that PLAYMAKER2 is an efficient tool to interpret the depositional setting and sedimentary facies for sediments. However, to be a more reliable system, many sedimentologists should work to refine and add geological rules in the knowledge-base of the expert system, PLAYMAKER2.

  • In this paper, we present a multi-depth generation method using a time-of-flight (ToF) fusion camera system. Multi-view color cameras in the parallel type and ToF depth sensors are used for 3D scene capturing. Although each ToF depth sensor can measure the depth information of the scene in real-time, it has several problems to overcome. Therefore, after we capture low-resolution depth images by ToF depth sensors, we perform a post-processing to solve the problems. Then, the depth information of the depth sensor is warped to color image positions and used as initial disparity values. In addition, the warped depth data is used to generate a depth-discontinuity map for efficient stereo matching. By applying the stereo matching using belief propagation with the depth-discontinuity map and the initial disparity information, we have obtained more accurate and stable multi-view disparity maps in reduced time.

  • In video-based recognition systems, stationary cameras are used to monitor an area of interest. These systems focus on a segmentation of the foreground in the video stream and the recognition of the events occurring in that area. The usual approach to discriminating the foreground from the video sequence is background subtraction. This paper presents a novel background subtraction method based on a probabilistic approach. We represent the posterior probability of the foreground based on the current image and all past images and derive an updated method. Furthermore, we present an efficient fusion method for the color and edge information in order to overcome the difficulties of existing background subtraction methods that use only color information. The suggested method is applied to synthetic data and real video streams, and its robust performance is demonstrated through experimentation.

  • It is widely known that KMS (Knowledge Management System) plays a role of facilitator that contributes to upgrading the organizational performance. Despite this widespread belief, actual operation of KMS has been stalled at the level of being used only for the plain knowledge administration, not reaching the level of utilizing KMS strategically. In this sense, this case study suggests three successful KMS operation strategies-personalization strategy, socialization strategy, and technological strategy. Cases adopted in this study include HIRA(Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service) and KORAIL (Korea Railroad) where KMS has been successfully utilized to improve their organizational innovation and performance as well. Through scrutinizing the two cases, it was concluded that the proposed three KMS operation strategies have potentials of being generally applied to other KMS operation cases.

  • This research has for its object to look carefully into the peculiarity of the color of the costume in the Korean culture by revealing the characteristic and the idea of the color being discovered in the Korean basic culture, which has the majority of the Korean people. The scope of the basic culture was divided into folk belief, folk game and folk play. Within these limits, the colors of the dress, accessories, instruments were extracted by comparing with the naked eye in NCS Color System. For the analysis of hue and tone the secondary dimensional analysis using NCS color system and the three-dimensional analysis using the software, COLOR 3D Version 2.0, were done.
