The characteristics of the sea breeze were investigated using the wind and temperature data collected from 300-m tower at Boseong from May 2014 to April 2018. Sea breeze day was detected using following criteria: 1) the presence of a clear change in wind direction near sunrise (between 1 hour after sunrise and 5 hours before sunset) and sunset (from 1500 LST to midnight), 2) presence of thermal forcing of sea breeze and 3) no heavy precipitation (rain < $10mm\;d^{-1}$). Sea breeze days occurred on 569 days for 4 years. The monthly distribution of sea breeze day occurrence shows maxima in May and September and minimum in December. The average onset and cessation times of the sea breeze are 0942 LST and 1802 LST, respectively. Although the 10-m wind shows clockwise rotation with time in the afternoon, the observed hodograph does not show an ideal elliptical shape and has different characteristics depending on the upper synoptic wind direction. Vertical structure of sea breeze shows local maximum of wind speed and local minimum of virtual potential temperature at 40 m in the afternoon for most synoptic conditions except for southeasterly synoptic wind ($60^{\circ}{\sim}150^{\circ}$) which is in the same direction as onshore flow. The local minimum of temperature is due to cold advection by sea breeze. During daytime, the intensity of inversion layer above 40 m is strongest in westerly synoptic wind ($240^{\circ}{\sim}330^{\circ}$) which is in the opposite direction to onshore flow.
Ten experimental tuna long line fishing operations were performed with the long lines A and B, in combination casting orders of BA and AB. The long line B differs from A in its additional main line length per basket and its greater depth of submersion (Table 1). The BA casting order results in an AB hauling order, so that the long line B is casted at an earlier time of a day and fishes for a longer period than A line (fig. 2). The number of fish caught was divided into subclasses in order to be subjected to $x^2-tests$ (Table 2). The first series of $x^2-tests$ were calculated using the hooking rates of two subclasses with other factors pooled (Table 3). The second series of $x^2-tests$ were calculated to obtain the interactions between two subclasses when other factors differed (Table 4). Attention was paid to the extremely small interactions as well as to the large interactions in order to find out whether a factor functions in the same way or in a contradictory way when the other factors involved differ. The test result is summarized in Table 5. The relationship between the hook casting time (relative to the sunrise time) and the hooking rates reveals the feeding behavior of particular species (fig. 3) A high hooking rate for yellowfin tuna shown in the period from one hour before sunrise to the moment of sunrise suggests that they feed actively in that period. Their poor hooking rate on earlier casted hooks suggests that they do not feed well under conditions of darkness and that they feed best while the hooks are sinking. Furthermore it is likely that yellowfin tuna maintain a shallow depth in the daytime, for the $x^2$ interaction between the line casting order BA and AB shows their persistant preferance of the long line A regardless of line casting order. Bigeye tuna show their feeding behavior under conditions of darkness, and show a preference for the sea's deeper layer. Alepisaurus borealis (Gill) show their feeding behavior under conditions of darkness more significantly than the bigeye tuna and their preferance for deep layers is also more significant. Marlins (mainly Makaria mazara) show a feeding behavior which is similar to the yellowfin tuna. The author emphasizes that certain variations of the hooking rates in relation to the line easting time were caused by an inadequate fishing depth as well as by the fish preference for a particular feeding time. When the part of the line casted in pre-dawn hours and hauled in the pre-sunset hours show a significantly lower hooking rate than other parts of the line, then it is concluded that tile hooks settled in a sea layer too deep for feeding.

The vertical distribution and activity patterns of fishes during the evening and morning transitions between day and night were studied acoustically and by bottom trawling in November 1990-1992 in thermally stratified waters of the East China Sea. The acoustic data were collected from six stations with a scientific echo-sounder operating at two frequencies of 25 and 100kHz, and the echograms were used to determine the vertical distributions of fish. Biological sampling was accomplished by bottom trawling to identify fish species recorded on the echograms, and the species and length compositions were determined. At each station, vertical profiles of water temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen were taken with a CTD system and were related to the diel movements and the depth distributions of fish. During the day most fish were within several meters above bottom, but began to migrate upwards just before sunset, and during the night they were dispersed in midwater. Prior to sunrise with a thermocline present, one group of the fish aggregation occurred in dense schools slightly above the thermocline, while the other group occurred with the numerous single fish-traces bellow it. These groups of aggregations rapidly began to migrate toward the bottom across the thermocline from about 40 min before sunrise. Trawl hauls in the bottom strata below the thermocline with the characteristic single fish traces yieled invariably catches dominated by snailfish and fishing frog with minor quantities of other species in all stations. Hence, the results indicate that snailfish and fishing frog were the dominated scatterers in the depth strata below the thermocline, and the single-fish recordings were mainly snailfish. The fish species such as anchovy and juvenile mackerel in bottom trawl catches is poorly represented in relation to the mesh selectivity of the trawl net, but their occurrence suggest that the fish-school recording above the thermocline were due to these species which migrated vertically across the thermocline, with a temperature gradient of about 8$^{\circ}C$, from the water layers near the bottom at night. Accordingly, we conclude that the vertical distribution and activity patterns of snailfish were strongly temperature dependent and in the termally stratified waters, the upper limit to diel activity was closely linked to the position of the thermocline.
The photosynthetic rates according to leaf positions in tomato plants were investigated in relation to leaf age and flowering rate. In the experiment investigating the diurnal change of photosynthetic rates, three leaves below the 4th cluster was checked every hour from 2 hours before sunrise and 3 hours after sunset. It was checked twice with the replication of 3 plants. The photosynthetic rate increased sharply for 1 hour right after sunrise and remained steady until 2 hours before sunset. This trend can be applied to determine the irrigation schedule. In the experiment investigating the photosynthetic rates according to leaf positions, it three leaves below each clusters from 1st to 4th cluster were checked. Flowering rate was also investigated. The photosynthetic rates showed a decreasing tendency steadily after flowers bloomed fully, regardless of the leaf position. It seems to be because the leaves below the cluster with fully-bloom flowers lost their activities. This result suggests the flowering rate or the position of flower has deep relation with the photosynthetic rates of the concerned leaves. From the results the leaves under flowering cluster may be the good part to investigate the photosynthetic rate to evaluate the crop's activity, even the photosynthetic rates are different according to the position of clusters.

The effective method for heating root-zone during winter season was studied in the aspects of growth, yield and economics for tomato ($Solanum$$lycopersicum$) in perlite bag culture. There were four root-zone heating treatments: two hours heating from one hour before to one hour after sunrise, four hours from two hours before to two hours after sunrise, 15 hours after sunset, and no heating. The growth characteristics of the upper parts of plants were not significantly different among the treatments, but root volume increased with longer heating of the root zone. The Plant Development Index, using stem diameter and the length between growing tip and the upper flowering truss, showed relation between yield per cluster and growth pattern. The treatment heating for four hours was the most economic in terms of growth and yield of tomato.

This study aimed to supplement the shortcomings of the Multiple-sensor-based Frost Observation System (MFOS). The developed frost observation system is an improvement of the existing system. Based on the leaf wetness sensor (LWS), it not only detects frost but also functions to predict surface temperature, which is a major factor in frost occurrence. With the existing observation system, 1) it is difficult to observe ice (frost) formation on the surface when capturing an image of the LWS with an RGB camera because the surface of the sensor reflects most visible light, 2) images captured using the RGB camera before and after sunrise are dark, and 3) the thermal infrared camera only shows the relative high and low temperature. To identify the ice (frost) generated on the surface of the LWS, a LWS that was painted black and three sheets of glass at the same height to be used as an auxiliary tool to check the occurrence of ice (frost) were installed. For RGB camera shooting before and after sunrise, synchronous LED lighting was installed so the power turns on/off according to the camera shooting time. The existing thermal infrared camera, which could only assess the relative temperature (high or low), was improved to extract the temperature value per pixel, and a comparison with the surface temperature sensor installed by the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences (NIMS) was performed to verify its accuracy. As a result of installing and operating the MFOS v2, which reflects these improvements, the accuracy and efficiency of automatic frost observation were demonstrated to be improved, and the usefulness of the data as input data for the frost prediction model was enhanced.
In this study, meteorological characteristics concerning the occurrence of fog are analyzed using 4-years (2000-2003) data at Chuncheon. From the analysis of meteorological characteristics, the fog at Chuncheon occurred before sunrise time and disappeared after that time and lasted for 2-4 hours. When fog occurred, on the whole, wind direction was blew the northerly and wind speed was below 2.1 m/s. Especially, about 42 % of foggy day fell on the calm($0{\sim}0.2m/s$) conditions. The difference between air temperature and dew point temperature near the surface were mainly less than $2^{\circ}C$. For the lack of water surface temperature, the water sur-face temperature was calculated by using Water Quality River Reservoir System (WQRRS). In Chuncheon, there is close correlation between the frequency of fog day and outflow from Soyang reservoir and high frequency of occurrence due to the difference between air and cold outlet water temperature.
We examined urban heat island intensity in Seongseo, Dae gu, South Korea, where a large area of water is located within the suburb. We found a maximum urban heat island intensity of $4.2^{\circ}C$, which occurred around 7 PM in the summer season. Throughout the remainder of the year, we observed the largest heat island intensity levels during late night hours. In contrast, the winter season displayed the smallest values for heat island intensity. Our results conflicted with heat island intensity values for cities where suburbs did not contain water areas. Generally, cities with suburbs lacking water displayed the largest heat island intensity levels before sunrise in the winter season. We also observed negative urban heat island intensity levels at midday in all seasons except for the summer, which is also in contrast with studies examining suburbs lacking water areas. The heat island intensity value observed in this study ($4.2^{\circ}C$) was relatively large and fell between the averages for, Asia and Europe according to the relationship between urban population and heat island intensity.

In maritime environment, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of sunglint since it may degrade the target detection performance of the infrared sensor mounted weapons. In this paper, sunglint in LWIR band is modeled using the slope distribution of the sea surface, and is verified by comparing the radiance of a simulated result with that of the real world. According to the simulation, sunglint is critical when the solar zenith angle is over $60^{\circ}$. The peak radiance of sunglint grows as the solar zenith angle increases until it reaches $83^{\circ}$ and has a large difference depending on the solar zenith angle when the wind speed is small. Finally, seasonal and temporal characteristics of sunglint effects are analyzed. In summer, sunglint is dominant in the horizon near the solar azimuth right after sunrise and before sunset. However, in winter, the influence of sunglint lasts even during the daytime since the elevation of the sun is much lower than in summer.
The objective of this study is to provide basic objective data which can be utilized as an adjustment criterion for the alleviation of the limit on the number of floors of buildings by quantitatively evaluates the effect of the alleviation of the limit on the number of floors of buildings in apartment complexes on thermal environment of apartment complexes using data obtained from apartments in a class 2 general residential area. In this study, we carried out a thermal environment analysis utilizing the simulation of a virtual object area. The result is summarized as follows: The result of analyzing the entire surface temperature showed an equal decrease of surface temperature due to shadow in all scenarios and high floors showed a tendency of low surface temperature during daytime as the rate of shadow the high floors increase. This influences not only the surface temperature but also HIP and is judged to greatly contribute to the alleviation of the heat island effect. Also, the reason why HIP at high floors shows high values before sunrise and after sunset is thought to be because the concrete wall of the building maintains a high temperature during nighttime by absorbing and storing sunlight during daytime instead of reflecting it since it has low reflectance.
