This paper investigates the behavior of precast concrete (PC) shear walls with a new vertical connections for a fast remodeling construction. The C-type vertical connections for the PC wall systems are proposed for transfer of bending moment between top and bottom walls in the vertical direction while a shear key in the center of wall is prepared to transfer shear forces by bearing action. The proposed vertical connections allows easy fabrication thanks to slots at the edges of wall in opposite directions. The plane PC wall systems subject to lateral load are compared with ordinary wall systems by investigating the effects of connection on the stiffness, strength, ductility, and failure modes of whole systems. The load-displacement relationship and influence of premature failure of connections are examined. The experimental test showed that the longitudinal reinforcing steel bars placed at the edges of walls yielded first and the ultimate deformation were terminated due to premature failure of connections. The diagonal reinforcements for efficient shear transfer in the walls were not effective. The strength and deformation obtained through the section analysis were generally in agreement with the experimental data, and indicated that. Gap opening contributed to the deformation behavior more than any other factors.
Steel shear wall possesses priority over many of the current lateral load-bearing systems due to reasons like higher elastic stiffness, desirable ductility and energy absorption, convenience in construction and implementation technology, and economic criteria. Besides these advantages, this system causes increase in the dimensions of other structural elements due to its high stiffness as one of its intrinsic characteristics. One of the methods for stiffness reduction is perforating the wall panel and creating openings in the wall that can also be used as windows or ducts in buildings service period. The aim of the present study is probing the appropriate geometric shape and location of opening to fulfil economic criterion plus technical and seismic design criteria. In the present research, a number of possible while reasonable opening shapes and locations are defined in various sizes for some steel shear wall specimens. The specimens are modelled in ABAQUS finite elements software and analyzed using nonlinear pushover analysis. Finally, the analyses' results are reported as force-displacement diagrams and the strength, the initial stiffness and the energy absorption are calculated for all specimens and compared together. The obtained results show that both shape and location of the openings affect the seismic parameters of the shear wall. The specimens in which the openings are further from the center and closer to the columns possess higher stiffness and strength while the specimens in which the openings are closer to the center show more considerable changes in their seismic parameters in response to increase in opening area.

It is very important to determine a target probability of failure in reliability based design such as an allowable factor of safety in working stress design because they are indices to judge the stability of structures. We have carried out reliability analyses of nationwide gravity type quay walls and found that sliding and foundation failures of quay walls were dominant failure modes for every case of loads. And a target probability of failure for bearing capacity of foundation of quay wall was also determined in this study. Of several approaches which have been suggested until now, a couple of reasonable approaches were used. Firstly, in order to consider the safety margin of structures which have been executed so far, the reliability levels of existing structures were assessed. And then a mean probability of failure for the quay walls was estimated. In addition, life cycle cost(LCC) analyses for representative structures were performed. Probabilities of failure for several quay walls were calculated with changing the width of each quay wall section. LCC of quay wall which is requiring case by case during the service life was evaluated, and also the optimum probability of failure of quay wall which minimizes LCC was found. Finally, reasonable target probabilities of failure were suggested by comparing with mean probability of failure of existing structures.
In the present study, the application of a method of anchored or waste tyre wall in reinforcing the unstable slope is investigated. For design purposes a method of external stability analysis of the reinforced slope, together with a method of internal stability analysis of a wall itself, is presented. In order to predict the passive resistance expected in the anchor or waste tyre Meyerhof's bearing capacity theory is moapaed and experimental results of stress distribution of a pile section under lateral loading is used. Hurray's pull-out teat results are compared with the passive resistances of anchors predicted by the proposed method, and alto the advantages in design are compared with a method of reinforced earth wall with steel strips. Finally a design example of reinforced slope using anchored or caste tyre wall is presented and the overall stability is analyzed in detail by the proposed method of analysis. The efficiency of a method of anchored or waste tyre wall is further analyzed, comparing with a method of changing geometry of the origin리 unstable slope.
W-Project is 70-story mixed-use residential building complex project in Busan, the second biggest city in South Korea. As it is a high rise building complex located at the coast, the residents have great ocean view from the height. Though, there were many difficult challenges to be solved to secure structural safety and meet the serviceability requirements. As it is located on the reclaimed land, securing the foundation bearing capacity on soft soil is the first issue to be solved for the stable structure. W-Project. Busan on the way usual track of typhoon, wind load on structure is also critical for structural safety and serviceability for occupants due to wind vibration. This paper will address process of lateral load resisting structural system of W-Project.
To identify the stability of cantilever retaining wall in safe state by the deterministic method, these potential modes of such geotechnical failures as bearing capacity, horizontal sliding and overturning are analysed using Advanced First Order Second Moment (AFOSM) method. All design variables are assumed of the normal distribution and to be statistically independent. Considering the correlations between the single modes, structural system reliability index is 2. 05. Even if the safety factors are larger than the required value in the codes' by the conventional deterministic method, the system reliability of this structure may not be Judged to be safe state since the system reliability index is much lower than general value of 3.

Recently, the construction of buildings and large bridges has been increasing rapidly causing foundation structure growing larger then before, especially in the use of large size cast-in-place piles. Barrette Pile will usually be used at the site where diaphragm wall is the retaining wall to save time and cost in mobilization of equipments. This study uses bi-directional loading test data obtained from two different sites to observe the bearing capacity and displacement characteristics of barrette pile. Numerical analysis of the test is done by using commercial 3D computer program and the interface effect and capacity of the pile as well as displacement characteristics of the pile is verified.
There have been a lot of studies about repair & strengthening of the concrete structure. But there has almost not been my study on section damage effect due to holes drilled out for installing additional facilities or equipment, such as rack on the wall of building or underground culvert system, plumbing system through the column or wall of it, after being occupied. This study is to find out how much the section loss due to holes will give loss of section strength. We cm determine if we repair or reinforce it completely or not, using strength loss from the hole. Hole size of diameter 3cm, 2cm, lcm, depth of 3cm, 5cm, 10cm, and position of each hole has been considered as variables of this study. It is concluded that section loss 30% results in 53% of strength damage.

In this paper, the displacement-based seismic design approaches are evaluated utilizing shaking-table test data of a 1:3 scaled reinforced concrete (RC) bearing wall structure Provided by IAEA. The maximum responses of the structure are estimated using the two prominent displacement-based approaches, i.e., the capacity spectrum method and the displacement coefficient method, and compared with the measured responses. For comparison purpose, linear and nonlinear time history analyses and response spectrum analysis are also performed. The results indicate that the capacity spectrum method underestimates the response of the structure In inelastic range while the displacement coefficient method yields reasonable values in general.
Results from nonlinear time-history analyses of wall-frame structural models indicate that the condition of vulnerable foundations -for which uplifting and reaching the bearing capacity of the supporting soil can occur before yielding at the base of the shear walls- may not be necessarily detrimental to the drift response of buildings under strong ground motions. Analyses also show that a soil-foundation system can inherently have deformation capacity well in excess of the demand and thus act as a source of energy dissipation that protects the structural integrity of the shear walls.
