  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness, eating experience, and preference of kimchi, and the sensory evaluation of kimchi from Chinese and Korean students residing in Korea. General information (including age, sex, duration of staying, living status) was collected. A questionnaire was used to collect the information on awareness, eating experience, and preference of kimchi and dishes made with kimchi. Sensory evaluations were carried out on a 10 point scale. All subjects (37 Koreans, 43 Chinese) were aware of kimchi, with 98% of the Chinese subjects recognizing kimchi as a Korean traditional food and 65% having eaten kimchi at least once a day. The types of kimchi preferred by Chinese subjects were generally sweet and not over-bearing in seasoning, hotness, or ripeness. The more frequently eaten foods made with kimchi were jjigae, bokkeumbap, bibimbap and kimbap. However, the more preferred dishes made with kimchi were bossam, jeongol, bokkeum, jeon, and ramyeon. The Chinese subjects were especially sensitive to spicy odors ($4.6{\pm}2.2/10$), salted seafood odors ($4.6{\pm}2.3/10$), offodors ($4.4{\pm}2.3/10$) and aftertaste ($5.9{\pm}2.1/10$) compared to Korean subjects. Taken all together, the perception as well as sensory characteristic of kimchi needs to be improved for the globalization of kimchi.

  • Study area (Jikjeon-ri) is located in south end of the Hadong anorthositic rocks. And along the south-western boundary, diorite intruded the Hadong anorthosite. Ilmenite ore bodies are extended in both anorthosite and diorite. And their occurrence in the diorite are not studied yet. While no particular textures are found in the ilmenite within the anorthosite, the ilmenite within the diorite shows characteristic exsolution texture, that is, ilmenite phases are separated into rutile and Fe-oxide and the ilmenite and Fe-oxide. MnO composition in ilmenite ratios are 2.14~3.74wt%, it has higher composition in diorite than that in anorthosite. The plagioclase composition display andesine ($An_{28.7-42.9}$) in the diorite and labradorite ($An_{57.1-72.8}$) in the anorthosite in composition. The exsolution of ilmenite has been developed during the cooling of partly melted ilmenite into rutile and Fe-oxides which is related to the intrusion of the diorite.

  • The metacercariae of Artyfechinostomum malayanum (Leiper, 1911) Mendheim, 1943 were discovered in Pila sp. snails purchased from a market in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They were isolated from the snails using the artificial digestion technique and were orally fed to 2 hamsters, 1 rat, and 2 mice to obtain the adult flukes. The metacercariae were round, $145-165{\mu}m$ in diameter, having a cyst wall of $6-10{\mu}m$ in thickness, a head collar and collar spines, and characteristic features of excretory granules. Adult flukes were recovered in the small intestines of the animals at days 14 and 32 post infection and were morphologically observed using a light microscope and a scanning electron microscope. They were plump or elongated, ventrally curved, $6.0-8.1{\times}1.6-2.0mm$ in size, and characterized by the head collar bearing 43 collar spines, including 5 end group ones on each side, a long cirrus sac extending beyond the posterior margin of the ventral sucker, a submedian ovary, and 2 deeply lobed testes. Eggs in uteri were operculate, ovoid to ellipsoid, and $120-135{\times}68-75{\mu}m$ in size. In scanning electron microscopy, the head collar was prominent with collar spines looking like horns. Scale-like tegumental spines were densely distributed on the ventral surface between the head collar and ventral sucker. Sensory papillae were distributed mainly on the tegument around suckers. By this study, it has been first confirmed that the life cycle of A. malayanum exists in Cambodia.

  • A new mathematical model and its finite element formulation for the non-linear stress-strain analysis of a planar beam strengthened with plates bolted or adhesively bonded to its lateral sides is presented. The connection between the layers is considered to be flexible in both the longitudinal and the transversal direction. The following assumptions are also adopted in the model: for each layer (i.e., the beam and the side plates) the geometrically linear and materially non-linear Bernoulli's beam theory is assumed, all of the layers are made of different homogeneous non-linear materials, the debonding of the beam from the side-plates due to, for example, a local buckling of the side plate, is prevented. The suitability of the theory is verified by the comparison of the present numerical results with experimental and numerical results from literature. The mechanical response arising from the theoretical model and its numerical formulation has been found realistic and the numerical model has been proven to be reliable and computationally effective. Finally, the present formulation is employed in the analysis of the effects of two different realizations of strengthening of a characteristic simply supported flexural beam (plates on the sides of the beam versus the tension-face plates). The analysis reveals that side plates efficiently enhance the bearing capacity of the flexural beam and can, in some cases, outperform the tensile-face plates in a lower loss of ductility, especially, if the connection between the beam and the side plates is sufficiently stiff.

  • Electromotive forces (EMF) are generated by electrical equipment and engine shafting with a number of reasons. The shaft and bearing which is insulated by lubricating oil acts as a condenser, being able to store this EMFs. The electromotive force on the hull and shaft, with very few exceptions, has anode voltage on it. Electrical spark of the anode voltage on the shaft may lead to corrosion. Hence, in order to prevent ship's shaft and propeller corrosion, shaft grounding system are installed and operated. The shaft EMF voltage measurement methods was measured using 24bit 2 channels A/D converter of NI company and Labview software. 1 channel was propeller shaft's voltage and the other was M/E engine rpm gauge. In this paper, the generated electromotive force was analyzed and modeled with result of the analysis. As a result, the main shaft's electromotive force was in direct proportion to the main engine's revolution. However, over the specific R.P.M., it was reduced gradually. In addition, higher electromotive force on the shaft was identified during engine's ahead direction than the astern direction. The generated electromotive force is only minor compared to the shaft grounding system.

  • Concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) laced columns have been widely used in high rise buildings in China. Compared to solid-web columns, this type of columns has a larger cross-section with less weight. In this paper, four concrete filled steel tubular laced columns consisting of 4 main steel-concrete tubes were tested under cyclic loading. Hysteresis and failure mechanisms were studied based on the results from the lateral cyclic loading tests. The influence of each design parameter on restoring forces was investigated, including axial compression ratio, slenderness ratio, and the size of lacing tubes. The test results show that all specimens fail in compression-bending-shear and/or compression-bending mode. Overall, the hysteresis curves appear in a full bow shape, indicating that the laced columns have a good seismic performance. The bearing capacity of the columns decreases with the increasing slenderness ratio, while increases with an increasing axial compression ratio. For the columns with a smaller axial compression ratio (< 0.3), their ductility is increased. Furthermore, with the increasing slenderness ratio, the yield displacement increases, the bending failure characteristic is more obvious, and the hysteretic loops become stouter. The results obtained from the numerical analyses were compared with the experimental results. It was found that the numerical analysis results agree well with the experimental results.

  • The detection of lymph node metastasis is an important step in tumor staging and is significant for therapy planning. It has been challenged to yield an appropriate image with diagnostic methods such as Magnetic Resonance (MR) and Computed Tomography (CT). Though CT has been used widely and accessed easily to show internal organs, it can hardly provide difference between lymph node and adjacent vessel or fat tissue. It has been well established that MR can reveal the subtle discrepancy within soft tissue. This study investigated the suitability of MR lymph node imaging without contrast enhancement by comparison of T1-weighted image (T1WI) and T2- weighted image (T2WI) in ten normal rabbits. According to the pulse sequence optimized from preliminary study, T1-weighted spin-echo (repetition time/echo time=400/12 ms) and T-2 weighted fast spin-echo (repetition time/echo time=3500/84 ms) images covering the hind limbs and pelvic region were acquired at 1.5 T. Two radiologists scrupulously evaluated the MR images in consensus. And signal intensity of lymph nodes was compared with that of adjacent fat. Statistical analysis showed that T1-weighted coronal image visualized the lymph nodes (iliac, superficial inguinal and popliteal lymph nodes) quickly and consistently rather than T2-weighted one. Conclusively, T1WI for evaluation of lymph nodes is moderately better than T2WI and appears to have potential for quick and sufficient mapping of the lymph nodes. In addition, this normal MR image of lymph nodes could be applied to further study for the evaluation of lymphatic system in abscess and tumor bearing animal model.

  • The Eonyang amethyst deposits are composed of vug quartz emplaced in the Eonyang granites of Mesozoic Cretaceous age. The Eonyang granites are composed of biotite granite, porphyritic biotite granite, aplite and miarolitic granite. The petrochemical data of the Eonyang granites show the trend of subalkaline magma, calc-alkaline magma, I-type granitoid and magnetite series. The vug quartz show the characteristic growth zoning (white quartz-smoky quartz-amethyst) from wall side. Generally fluid inclusions in the vug quartz can be divided into four main types based on compositions (I-type: gas inclusion, II-type: liquid inclusion, III-type: polyphase inclusion, IV-type: liquid $CO_2$-bearing inclusion). Solid phase of polyphase inclusions are halite(NaCl), sylvite(KCl), hematite ($Fe_2O_3$) and unknown anisotropic solid. Homogenization temperatures inferred from the fluid inclusion study ranges from $440^{\circ}C$ to $485^{\circ}C$ in white quartz, from $227^{\circ}C$ to $384^{\circ}C$ in smoky quartz, from $133^{\circ}C$ to $186^{\circ}C$ in amethyst, respectively. Salinities of fluid inclusions in each mineralization stages ranges from 40 wt.% to 58 wt.% in white and smoky quartz, from 1.0 wt.% to 8.7 wt.% in amethyst respectively. A consideration of the pressure regime during vug quartz deposition based on the boiling evidence suggests lithostatic pressure of less than 72 bars. This range of pressure indicate that vug quartz lay at depth of 750 m below the surface at the during mineralization.

  • Purpose : The purpose of the research was to analyze foot pressure, foot temperature, and correlation between foot pressure and foot temperature to grasp impact on foot pressure and body temperature distribution chart depending on functional difference of leg length. Method : After measuring leg length, put 15 students whose functional difference of leg length was over 10mm to difference group and 15 students whose functional difference of leg length was under 5mm to normal group and categorize soles of foot into 6 sections of hallux head, 1st metatarsal head, 2-4 metatarsal head, 5 metatarsal head, lateral heel, and then measure by foot pressure analyzer to analyze characteristic of pressure distribution and classify into front of the lower leg, back of the lower leg, soles of foot and measure by body temperature analyzer to analyze by checking body temperature. Result : Weight difference depending on foot pressure and body temperature was bigger when functional difference of leg length was bigger, and it could be confirmed that foot pressure and body temperature of short leg side were higher than those of short leg side. Thus, if difference exists in leg length, weight load on short leg side increases which results in higher foot pressure and body temperature, therefore enabling an assumption that mechanical problem will occur in short leg. Conclusion : When functional leg length inequality, weight bearing and pressure was getting high as a result, temperature was getting high in short leg.

  • The shortage of bearing capacity and settlement, shear deformation may occur when constructing a structure such as harbor, airport and bridge on soft ground such as marine clay, silty clay, sandy soil because it is very soft. The various ground improvement methods were applied to obtain preceding settlement of soft ground and strength increase. The vertical drain method has been used to reduce the required time for consolidation of the soft ground. Especially, the PBD (Plastic Board Drain) has been widely used among in the vertical drain method. In this study, a behavior of characteristic was evaluated by operating a compound drainage capacity test about the PBD (Plastic Board Drain) method applied in soft clay in deep depth. As a result, the settlement gradually occurred with increase of surface load. The consolidation settlement was processed with dissipation of pore pressure after surface load of $500kN/m^2$. Accordingly, it was found that change of settlement through load steps was resulted from dissipation of pore pressure. It was also found that the drainage capacity of vertical drains was considerably reduced with pressure increase and time elapse.
