One of the most complex reinforcement location in the precast building frame is the beam-column joint in a prefabricated construction. It is generally resulted from the vortical bars of column, anchorage bars of beam, and bars of hoop. Particularly the hooked anchorage bars of beam are confronted with hoop and main column bars. The headed reinforcement is considered to place them easily and to reduce the anchorage length in a precast construction. Reversed cyclic loading tests are performed on four beam-column specimens to evaluate the strength and behavior of beam to column and column to column connections. The result of test shows that the headed reinforcement has a similar performance than that of hooked reinforcement in a precast specimen with strong column and weak beam joints. The splice column joints which are used frequently in the domestic fields also show reliable behaviors in those tests with strong column and weak beam joints.

The flexural behavior of a strengthened beam that is a reinforced concrete beam with externally bonded carbon fiber sheets, is theoretically and experimentally investigated. A rectangular beam having a width of 20cm depth of 30cm and effective depth of 25cm is chosen. In order to have a variety of beams analyzed, three reinforcement ratios are chosen for the analysis: 1)$\frac{1}{2}$$\rho$$_{max}$, which is the most suitable reinforcement ratio for deflection consideration and the highest reinforcement ratio for practical designing beams as well; 2)$\rho$$_{max}$, which is the lowest reinforcement ratio for design purposes; and 3)the reinforcement ratio halfway from 1) and 2). Carbon fiber sheets with width of 15cm are externally bonded at the bottom fiber of the beam. The effect of the amount of carbon fiber sheets varying from 1 to 4 plies on the flexural capacity of the strengthened beam are also examined. Yield loads, ultimate loads, and flexural rigidities of the strengthened beam from the experimental results are composed with theoretical ones.nes.
The high strength materials have been more widely used in reinforced concrete structures because of the benefits of the mechanical and durable properties. Generally, it is known that the ductility decreases with an increase in the strength of the materials. In the design of a reinforced concrete beam, both the flexural strength and ductility need to be considered. Especially, when a reinforced concrete structure may be subjected an earthquake, the members need to have a sufficient ductility. So, each design code has specified to provide a consistent level of minimum flexural ductility in seismic design of concrete structures. Therefore, it is necessary to assess accurately the ductility of the beam sections with high strength materials in order to ensure the ductility requirement in design. In this study, the effects of concrete strength, yield strength of reinforcement steel and amount of reinforcement including compression reinforcement on the complete moment-curvature behavior and the curvature ductility factor of doubly reinforcement concrete beam sections have been evaluated and a newly prediction formula for curvature ductility factor of doubly RC beam sections has been developed considering the stress of compression reinforcement at ultimate state. Based on the numerical analysis results, the proposed predictions for the curvature ductility factor are verified by comparisons with other prediction formulas. The proposed formula offers fairly accurate and consistent predictions for curvature ductility factor of doubly reinforced concrete beam sections.

Shear wall systems behave as individual wall because of openings like window and elevator cage. When coupling beams are installed in shear walls, they will have high strength and stiffness so that be less damaged by lateral loads like earthquake. However, coupling beam is difficult construction method. And arranging reinforcement of slender coupling beams are especially hard. It is because the details of coupling beam provided by ACI 318 are complex. In this paper, experiments were conducted using coupling beams with 3.5 aspect ratio to improve the details of slender coupling beams provided by ACI 318. Two specimens were proposed for this study. One specimen applied with bundled diagonally reinforcement only. Another specimen applied both bundled diagonally reinforcement and High-Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composite (HPFRCC) so that coupling beams have half of transverse reinforcement. All specimen were compared with a coupling beam designed according to ACI 318 and were evaluated with hysteretic behaviors. Test results showed that the performance of two specimen suggested in this study were similar to that of coupling beam designed according to current criteria. And it was considered that simplification of the details of reinforcement would be available if transverse reinforcement was reduced by using bundled diagonally reinforcement and HPFRCC.

The hysteretic behavior of diagonal reinforced coupling beams is excellent during earthquakes. However, construction of the diagonal reinforced coupling beams is difficult due to complex reinforcement details required by current code procedures (ACI 318-11). Due to the detail requirement, reinforcement congestion and interference among transverse reinforcement always occur during construction field. When the aspect ratio of the beam is large, the interference of reinforcement becomes more serious. The objective of this paper is to simplify the reinforcement details of slender coupling beams by reducing transverse reinforcement around the beam perimeter. For this purpose, high- performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites are used for making coupling beams. Experiments were conducted using three specimens having aspect ratio 3.5. Test results showed that HPFRCC coupling beams with half the transverse reinforcement required by ACI 318-11 provided identical seismic capacities to the corresponding coupling beams having requirement satisfying the requirement specified in ACI 318-11.
Composite laminates are used in a wide range of applications including defense, automotive, aviation and aerospace, marine, wind energy, and recreational sporting goods. These composite beams still exhibit problems such as buckling, local deformations, and interlaminar delamination. To overcome these drawbacks, a novel viscoelastic autoclave bonding with tapered epoxy reinforcement polyurethane films is proposed. In existing laminates, compression face wrinkling and interlaminar delamination is caused in the sandwich beam. The unique viscoelastic autoclave spunbond interlayer bonding is designed to prevent face wrinkling and absorb and distribute stresses induced by external loads, thereby eliminating interlaminar delamination in the sandwich beam. Also, the existing special reinforcement causes stress concentrations, and the core is not effectively connected, which directly affects the stiffness of the beam. To address this, a novel tapered epoxy polyurethane reinforcement adhesive film is proposed, whose reinforcement thickness gradually tapers as it enters the core material. This minimizes stress concentrations at the interface, preventing excessive adhesive squeeze-out during the bonding process, and improves the stiffness of the beam. Results indicate the proposed model avoids the formation of micro cracks, interlaminar delamination, buckling, and local deformations, and effectively improves the stiffness of the beam.

Replacement of FRP rod as steel reinforcement has been attracted significantly to prevent the degradation of the concrete structure due to corrosion. So, the technology development to extend the structure's service life by improving FRP properties has been proceeded worldwide. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop Korea's CFRP rod and CFRP grid, including the manufacturing techniques to improve the properties of high-strength and high-stiffness. Moreover, the research should be conducted to evaluate the structural behavior of the beams using the CFRP rod or grid. This study investigates the flexural and shear behavior of reinforced concrete beam using demonstrated CFRP rod as reinforcement according to the reinforcement ratio and shear span to depth ratio. From the results, when the reinforcement ratio is out of a specific range, it is seemed that the effect on performance improvement of the beam using CFRP rod is cancelled or not significant. Meanwhile, when the CFRP rod was used as reinforcement, the possibility of shear failure occurred, even steel stirrups were installed in the beam with CFRP rod as tensile reinforcement according to the Korean Design Standard. Therefore, when the CFRP rod is used as tensile reinforcement in a beam, it should be prepared that a specific limitation of reinforcement ratio and an investigation against shear failure. Also, the ductility of the beam using the CFRP rod is determined by the deformation energy evaluation method. So, the ductility should be investigated by applying the deformation energy evaluation method that reflects the structural behavior of the beam.

This paper proposes Headed bar as reinforcement of beam-column joint, and proves seismic performance and reduction of reinforcement congestion. In these case, the use of Headed bars have obvious advantages. The greatest benefit of using Headed bars is not only improved structural performance of beam-column joints, but also the ease of fabrication, construction, and placement. Three-dimensional finite element analysis model is compared with test program which was fulfilled by the proposed model with Headed bar. Also, the plastic hinge region is relocated to the center of the longitudinal beam length according to the strong column-weak beam design philosophy, so Headed bar is used as the joint reinforcement. Therefore, this paper presents results of a computer analysis of a practical solution for relocating potential beam plastic hinge regions by the placing of straight - Headed bar.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear strength of reinforced concrete beam according to beam section size and shear reinforcement ratio. A total of nine specimens were tested and designed concrete compressive strength is 24 MPa. The main variables are shear reinforcement ratio and beam section size fixed with shear span to depth ratio (a/d = 2.5), the tensile reinforcement ratio (${\rho}=0.013$) and width to depth ratio (h/b = 1.5). The test specimens were divided into three series of S1 ($225{\times}338mm$), S2 ($270{\times}405mm$) and S3 ($315{\times}473mm$), respectively. The experimental results show that all specimens represent diagonal tensile failure. For $S^*-1$ specimens (d/s=0), the shear strength decreased by 33% and 46% with increasing the beam effective depth, 26% and 33% for $S^*-2$ specimens (d/s=1.5) and 16% and 20% for $S^*-3$ specimens (d/s=2.0) respectively. As the shear reinforcement ratio increases, the decrease range in shear strength decreases. In other words, this means that as the shear reinforcement ratio increases, the size effect of concrete decreases. In the S1 series, the shear strength increased by 39% and 41% as the shear reinforcement ratio increased, 54% and 76% in the S2 series and 66% and 100% in the S3 series, respectively. As the effective depth of beam increases, the increase range of shear strength increases. This means that the effect of shear reinforcement increases as the beam effective depth increases. As a result of comparing experimental values with theoretical values by standard equation and proposed equation, the ratio by Zsutty and Bazant's equation is 1.30 ~ 1.36 and the ratio by KBC1 and KBC2 is 1.55~.163, respectively. Therefore, Zsutty and Bazant's proposed equation is more likely to reflect the experimental data. The current standard for shear reinforcement ratio (i.e., $S_{max}=d/2$) is expected to be somewhat relaxed because the ratio of experimental values to theoretical values was found to be 1.01 ~ 1.44 for most specimens.

In this paper an experimental approach of the relocation plastic hinging zones of nine reinforced concrete exterior beam-column subassemblages under cyclic loads was tried. The main parameters of the testing program were location of the plastic hinge, difference of the special reinforcement, inclined or intermediate layers of longitudinal reinforcement, applied maximum shear stress. The conclusions presented herein are based on the limited texts conducted. Inclined or intermediate layers of longitudinal reinforcement and extra top and bottom steel in the beam over a specific legnth can be used to move the beam plastic hinging zone away from the column face. But, for the use of intermediate layers of longitudinal reinforcement, sheat reinforcement detail need further investigation.
