In the last ten years, many researchers have studied the vibrations of carbon nanotubes using different beam theories. The nano- and micro-scale systems have wavy shape and there is a demand for a powerful tool to mathematically model waviness of those systems. In accordance with the above mentioned lack for the modeling of the waviness of the curved tiny structure, a novel approach is employed by implementing the Timoshenko-beam model. Owing to the small size of the micro beam, these structures are very appropriate for designing small instruments. The vibrations of double walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) are developed using the Timoshenko-beam model in conjunction with the wave propagation approach under support conditions to calculate the fundamental frequencies of DWCNTs. The frequency influence is observed with different parameters. Vibrations of the double walled carbon nanotubes are investigated in order to find their vibrational modes with frequencies. The aspect ratios and half axial wave mode with small length are investigated. It is calculated that these frequencies and ratios are dependent upon the length scale and aspect ratio.
This study aimed to assess of beam-matching accuracy for an 8 MV beam between the same model linear accelerators(Linac) commissioned over two years. Two models were got the customer acceptance procedure(CAP) criteria. For commissioning data for beam-matched linacs, the percentage depth doses(PDDs), beam profiles, output factors, multi-leaf collimator(MLC) leaf transmission factors, and the dosimetric leaf gap(DLG) were compared. In addition, the accuracy of beam matching was verified at phantom and patient levels. At phantom level, the point doses specified in TG-53 and TG-119 were compared to evaluate the accuracy of beam modelling. At patient level, the dose volume histogram(DVH) parameters and the delivery accuracy are evaluated on volumetric modulated arc therapy(VMAT) plan for 40 patients that included 20 lung and 20 brain cases. Ionization depth curve and dose profiles obtained in CAP showed a good level for beam matching between both Linacs. The variations in commissioning beam data, such as PDDs, beam profiles, output factors, TF, and DLG were all less than 1%. For the treatment plans of brain tumor and lung cancer, the average and maximum differences in evaluated DVH parameters for the planning target volume(PTV) and the organs at risk(OARs) were within 0.30% and 1.30%. Furthermore, all gamma passing rates for both beam-matched Linacs were higher than 98% for the 2%/2 mm criteria and 99% for the 2%/3 mm criteria. The overall variations in the beam data, as well as tests at phantom and patient levels remains all within the tolerance (1% difference) of clinical acceptability between beam-matched Linacs. Thus, we found an excellent dosimetric agreement to 8 MV beam characteristics for the same model Linacs.

This paper proposes a spectral element which can represent dynamic responses in high frequency domain such as Lamb waves on a thin plate. A two layer beam model under 2-D plane strain condition is introduced to simulate high-frequency dynamic responses induced by piezoelectric layer (PZT layer) bonded on a base plate. In the two layer beam model, a PZT layer is assumed to be rigidly bonded on a base beam. Mindlin-Herrmann and Timoshenko beam theories are employed to represent the first symmetric and anti-symmetric Lamb wave modes on a base plate, respectively. The Bernoulli beam theory and 1-D linear piezoelectricity are used to model the electro-mechanical behavior of a PZT layer. The equations of motions of a two layer beam model are derived through Hamilton's principle. The necessary boundary conditions associated with electro mechanical properties of a PZT layer are formulated in the context of dual functions of a PZT layer as an actuator and a sensor. General spectral shape functions of response field and the associated boundary conditions are formulated through equations of motions converted into frequency domain. A detailed spectrum element formulation for composing the dynamic stiffness matrix of a two layer beam model is presented as well. The validity of the proposed spectral element is demonstrated through comparison results with the conventional 2-D FEM and the previously developed spectral elements.

A method for the vibration analysis of curved beam conveying fluid with uniform velocity was presented. The dynamics of curved beam is based on the inextensible theory. Both in-plane motion and out-of-plane motion of curved beam were discussed. The finite element method was formulated to solve the governing equations. The natural frequencies calculated by the presented method were compared with those by analytical solution, straight beam theories and Nastran. As the velocity of fluid becomes larger, the results by straight beam model became different from those by curved beam model. And it was shown that the curved beam element should be used to predict the critical velocity of fluid exactly. The influence of fluid velocity on the frequency response function was also discussed.
Analytical model for the temperature distribution and the cooling rate of weld in dual beam laser welding is presented for investigating the possibility of controling the cooling rate. The model is based on the solutions to the problem of heat flow due to the distributed and line heat sources for preheating and welding respectively in plates with finite thickness. The effects of beam power, beam distribution parameter, interbeam distance, and welding speed on the resulting temperature distribution and cooling rate are presented. The cooling rates of dual beam laser weld at the weld centerline under the investigated conditions are reduced to as one third of those of welds which were produced by single beam laser. And it appeared that the cooling rate of dual beam laser weld is strongly dependent on the process parameters of preheating laser beam power and welding speed.

In this paper, the forced vibration of damped composite beam with I-type section was analyzed. The damping material was assumed to have complex Young's modulus. Damped composite beam structure could be modeled using equivalent beam elements with less D.O.F. rather than solid elements. Finite element method for 6 D.O.F. equivalent beam element was formulated and programmed using complex values. The results of frequency responses revealed good agreement with those of NASTRAN in both Euler beam model and Timoshenko beam model.
The objective of this work is to analyze geometrically nonlinear static analysis a simply supported laminated composite beam subjected to a non-follower transversal point load at the midpoint of the beam. In the nonlinear model of the laminated beam, total Lagrangian finite element model of is used in conjunction with the Timoshenko beam theory. The considered non-linear problem is solved considering full geometric non-linearity by using incremental displacement-based finite element method in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iteration method. There is no restriction on the magnitudes of deflections and rotations in contradistinction to von-Karman strain displacement relations of the beam. In the numerical results, the effects of the fiber orientation angles and the stacking sequence of laminates on the nonlinear deflections and stresses of the composite laminated beam are examined and discussed. Convergence study is performed. Also, the difference between the geometrically linear and nonlinear analysis of laminated beam is investigated in detail.

One of the methods improving the seismic behavior of a structure is the frame with reduced beam section (RBS) which cuts a segment of flanges of the beam near the beam-to-column connection so that the section with reduced flanges has smaller flexural strength than the beam end. It is difficult to analyze the RBS frame because RBS portion has circular-cut type flange. And inelastic response of the steel frame with the RBS is very sensitive to the RBS model. In this paper, the analytical models of RBS portion are investigated and the results of the inelastic analysis for RBS analytical models are compared and then the analytical model for RBS is determined based on the results of inelastic analysis. Inelastic behavior of the RBS frame and its dynamic characteristics are investigated for selected analytical model of RBS.

A theoretical heat-flow model incorporating with a constant moving CO$_{2}$ laser beam has been analyzed to predict depth and the shape of bead section during last beam welding. The laser beam is exponentially attenuated with an abosrption coefficient in the material. The solution can be expressed in terms of normalized variables. The experimental data were generated by usint CW 2 CO$_{2}$ laser with multi beam mode and CW 3 kW CO$_{2}$laser with Gaussian mode. The specimens were made as bead-on-plate welds for SM 10C, STS 304, STS 316, STS 420 and pure Nickel. The maximum possible penetration depth and the shape of beas section for given sources of laser power, travel speed and beam spot size can be prdicted with this model in a given material.
A mathematical model for the nonlinear dynamics of a rotating beam with flexible root attached to a rotating hub with elastic foundation is developed. The model is developed based on the large planar and flexural deformation theory and the potential energy method to account for axial shortening due to bending deformation. In addition the exact nonlinear curvature is used in the system potential energy. The Lagrangian dynamics and the assumed mode method is used to derive the nonlinear coupled equations of motion hub rotation, beam tip deflection and hub horizontal and vertical displacements. The derived nonlinear model is simulated numerically and the results are presented and discussed for the effect of root flexibility, hub stiffness, torque type, torque period and excitation frequency and amplitude on the dynamic behavior of the rotating beam-hub and on its stability.
