  • Naive Bayesian classifiers are a powerful and well-known type of classifiers that can be easily induced from a dataset of sample cases. However, the strong conditional independence assumptions can sometimes lead to weak classification performance. Normally, naive Bayesian classifiers use Gaussian distributions to handle continuous attributes and to represent the likelihood of the features conditioned on the classes. The probability density of attributes, however, is not always well fitted by a Gaussian distribution. Another eminent type of classifier is the neuro-fuzzy classifier, which can learn fuzzy rules and fuzzy sets using supervised learning. Since there are specific structural similarities between a neuro-fuzzy classifier and a naive Bayesian classifier, the purpose of this study is to apply learning distribution graphs constructed by a neuro-fuzzy network to naive Bayesian classifiers. We compare the Gaussian distribution graphs with the fuzzy distribution graphs for the naive Bayesian classifier. We applied these two types of distribution graphs to classify leukemia and colon DNA microarray data sets. The results demonstrate that a naive Bayesian classifier with fuzzy distribution graphs is more reliable than that with Gaussian distribution graphs.

  • This paper presents a new design algorithm for the combination with the fuzzy classifier and the Bayesian classifier. Only few attempts have so far been made at providing an effective design algorithm combining the advantages and removing the disadvantages of two classifiers. Specifically, the suggested algorithms are composed of three steps: the combining, the fuzzy-set-based pruning, and the fuzzy set tuning. In the combining, the multi-inputs and multi-outputs (MIMO) fuzzy model is used to combine two classifiers. In the fuzzy-set-based pruning, to effectively decrease the complexity of the fuzzy-Bayesian classifier and the risk of the overfitting, the analysis method of the fuzzy set and the recursive pruning method are proposesd. In the fuzzy set tuning for the misclassified feature vectors, the premise parameters are adjusted by using the gradient decent algorithm. Finally, to show the feasibility and the validity of the proposed algorithm, a computer simulation is provided.

  • Tissue microarry is one of the high throughput technologies in the post-genomic era. Using tissue microarray, the researchers are able to investigate large amount of gene expressions at the level of DNA, RNA, and protein The important aspect of tissue microarry is its ability to assess a lot of biomarkers which have been used in clinical practice. To manipulate the categorical data of tissue microarray, we applied Bayesian network classifier algorithm. We identified that Bayesian network classifier algorithm could analyze tissue microarray data and integrating prior knowledge about gastric cancer could achieve better performance result. The results showed that relevant integration of prior knowledge promote the prediction accuracy of survival status of the immunohistochemical tissue microarray data of 18 tumor suppressor genes. In conclusion, the application of Bayesian network classifier seemed appropriate for the analysis of the tissue microarray data with clinical information.

  • Mortality of domestic people from cardiovascular disease ranked second, which followed that of from cancer last year. Therefore, it is very important and urgent to enhance the reliability of medical examination and treatment for cardiovascular disease. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is the most commonly used noninvasive methods to evaluate autonomic regulation of heart rate and conditions of a human heart. In this paper, our aim is to extract a quantitative measure for HRV to enhance the reliability of medical examination for cardiovascular disease, and then develop a prediction method for extracting multi-parametric features by analyzing HRV from ECG. In this study, we propose a hybrid Bayesian classifier called FP-based Bayesian. The proposed classifier use frequent patterns for building Bayesian model. Since the volume of patterns produced can be large, we offer a rule cohesion measure that allows a strong push of pruning patterns in the pattern-generating process. We conduct an experiment for the FP-based Bayesian classifier, which utilizes multiple rules and pruning, and biased confidence (or cohesion measure) and dataset consisting of 670 participants distributed into two groups, namely normal and patients with coronary artery disease.

  • An E-mails have regarded as one of the most popular methods for exchanging information because of easy usage and low cost. Meanwhile, exponentially growing unwanted mails in user's mailbox have been raised as main problem. Recognizing this issue, Korean government established a law in order to prevent e-mail abuse. In this paper we suggest hybrid spam mail filtering system using weighted Bayesian classifier which is extended from naive Bayesian classifier by adding the concept of preprocessing and intelligent agents. This system can classify spam mails automatically by using training data without manual definition of message rules. Particularly, we improved filtering efficiency by imposing weight on some character by feature extraction from spam mails. Finally, we show efficiency comparison among four cases - naive Bayesian, weighting on e-mail header, weighting on HTML tags, weighting on hyperlinks and combining all of four cases. As compared with naive Bayesian classifier, the proposed system obtained 5.7% decreased precision, while the recall and F-measure of this system increased by 33.3% and 31.2%, respectively.

  • The possibility to extent the solution in human detection problem for plug-in on vision-based Human Computer Interaction domain is very attractive, since the successful of the machine leaning theory and computer vision marriage. Bayesian logistic regression is a powerful classifier performing sparseness and high accuracy. The difficulties of finding people in an image will be conquered by implementing this Bavesian model as classifier. The comparison with other massive classifier e.g. SVM and RVM will introduce acceptance of this method for human detection problem. Our experimental results show the good performance of Bavesian logistic regression in human detection problem, both in trade-off curves (ROC, DET) and real-implementation compare to SVM and RVM.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time classifier to distinguish humans from livestock by using the spatial integral. The image-difference method and the Expectation Maximization are used to reduce noises in input image. A histogram analysis based on Simulated Annealing and the fuzzy-Bayesian algorithm are used to classify human and livestock. Finally, the experiment results show the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents new pruning and learning methods for the fuzzy rule-based classifier. The structure of the proposed classifier is framed from the fuzzy sets in the premise part of the rule and the Bayesian classifier in the consequent part. For the simplicity of the model structure, the unnecessary features for each fuzzy rule are eliminated through the iterative pruning algorithm. The quality of the feature is measured by the proposed correctness method, which is defined as the ratio of the fuzzy values for a set of the feature values on the decision region to one for all feature values. For the improvement of the classification performance, the parameters of the proposed classifier are finely adjusted by using the gradient descent method so that the misclassified feature vectors are correctly re-categorized. The cost function is determined as the squared-error between the classifier output for the correct class and the sum of the maximum output for the rest and a positive scalar. Then, the learning rules are derived from forming the gradient. Finally, the fuzzy rule-based classifier is tested on two data sets and is found to demonstrate an excellent performance.

  • In this study, the artificial defects in rotary compressor are classified using pattern recognition of acoustic emission signal. For this purpose the computer program is developed. The neural network classifier is compared with the statistical classifier such as the linear discriminant function classifier and empirical Bayesian classifier. It is concluded that the former is better. It is possible to acquire the recognition rate of above 99% by neural network classifier.

  • DELVAUX is an inductive learning environment that learns Bayesian classification rules from a set o examples. In DELVAUX, a genetic a, pp.oach is employed to learn the best rule-set, in which a population consists of rule-sets and rule-sets generate offspring by exchanging some of their rules. We have explored a meta-learning a, pp.oach in the DELVAUX learning environment to improve the classification performance of the DELVAUX system. The meta-learning a, pp.oach learns the bias of a classifier so that it can evaluate the prediction made by the classifier for a given example and thereby improve the overall performance of a classifier system. The paper discusses the meta-learning a, pp.oach in details and presents some empirical results that show the improvement we can achieve with the meta-learning a, pp.oach.
