  • We consider a problem of grouping orders for batch processing that arises in production systems where customer orders are processed in batches. This problem can be viewed as a variant of bin packing problem where items can be split and a pair of items can be placed in a bin when the items are compatible with each other. In this paper, we consider a special case that at most two different items can be placed in a single bin and the size of every item is at most the size of a bin.

  • With the progress of miniaturization and high performance of various sensors, a lot of data is generated in various fields and being collected in real-time, but the use of such large-capacity data is often unable to keep up with the collection technology. In the medical field, health data is collected and managed by platform, which causes inconvenience to users in searching their own health data and receiving medical services. In this paper, in order to solve these problems, we designed and implemented PHDItemReader to improve the speed of data query in a batch application environment that can integrate and process health data having various data expression formats. The experiment compared and analyzed 3 types of query speed based on 1,000,000 hypothetical health data, and as a result of the experiment, it was verified that the PHDItemReader implemented in this paper improved up to about 21% compared to the existing one.

  • Melt-textured YBCO in high quantity and good quality is prepared in a batch process. A mean trapped field >1. IT at 77K is achieved in batch processed material. Studying the microstructure is a necessary tool to understand the growth mechanisms and thus to opimise the material. From the growth induced structures in the material the anisotropy in growth speed is 1.37. From batch processed material function elements for different cryomagnetic applications are constructed. Motors with an output power > 200 kW at 77 K and bearings that can lift more than 200 kg were equipped with melt-textured YBCO.

  • Recently, it is necessary to process real time sensor data, which is generated from ubiquitous environments. Data, which are written by XML, are small, but, large volumes of data. Therefore, weneed to use an efficient method for processing a large amount of it. An XQuery has two types for sensor data: one is to get sensor identification and value from sensor data; the other is restructuring for user's convenience. Existing XQuery engines don't have efficient method for batch processing of sensor data. This paper proposed the twig query processing over reverse path summary, and we developed and applied restructuring batch processing method for real time processing of a large amount of sensor data. Finally, we do performance evaluation using XMark and RFID EPC data, and comparison analysis with MonetDB/XQuery and Berkeley DB XML.

  • This study evaluated the quality characteristics for optimization of premix-type Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) Soksungjang (BS). First, according to the amount of salt (8, 10, 12%), coliform counts were not detected in BS with 10 or, 12% salt at 21 days and Bacillus subtilis HJ 18-4 as a starter at 7 days. Therefore, 10% salt with starter culture might be considered as suitable conditions for safety. Second, according to the ratio of water (1:1, 1:1.5, 1:1.8), BS prepared with the same weights of meju powder and water showed the highest aminotype nitrogen content (688.76mg%) at 35 days; thus, an adequate fermentation state was established at this condition compared to others. Third, according to the type of container (pot, plastic, glass), the aminotype nitrogen contents were higher in the plastic container and pot than in the glass bottle. Lastly, according to the batch size (1.25, 2.5 kg), the coliform of the 2.5 kg sample decreased faster than that of 1.25 kg samples at 14 days. These results suggest that BS prepared with the same ratio of water and meju powder fermented with HJ 18-4 as a starter and 10% salt in a pot, plastic container (3 weeks) and glass container (4 weeks) showed desirable fermentation qualities.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to guide the operation managers who plan daily production of large mass-processing facility that services multi-customers with multi-product, small-batch item characteristics by providing the practical best production quantity and the inventory allowed to build. Methods: Close observation of a subcontract paint-shop operator captured the daily decision process which was reflected in the subcontractor-unique mathematical model and the system dynamics simulation model. Multiple simulations were run to find the practical best production quantity and the maximum allowable stock level of inventory that did not undermine the profit from practical best daily production. Actual data and a few constant values were obtained from the firm under study. Results: While the inventory holding cost for the customer-owned material harms the total profit of the subcontractor, the running cost of the processing facility hinders production in small batches. This balances the maximum possible productions and results in practical best daily production which can be found through simulation runs with actual data. The maximum level of stocked inventory is deduced from the practical best daily production. Conclusion: To build a large volume that enables economy-of-scale production, operators should deal with multi-product small-batch items from multiple customers. When the planned schedule of the time and amount of material in-flow tend not to be reliable, operators can find it practical to execute level production across the planning horizon instead of adjusting to day-to-day in-flow fluctuations.

  • This study investigates the treatment of pigment wastewater using a sequential batch reactor (SBR) followed by dissolved ozone flotation-pressurized ozone oxidation treatement (DOF-$PO_2$). The process efficiency has been evaluated at the lab scale on the basis of water quality parameters. In addition, the effect of pure oxygen and air was investigated on the removal of COD, BOD, and TN in the SBR process. It was observed that under comparable conditions the removal efficiencies of these water quality parameters using pure oxygen and air were similar. The effect of the recycle rate was also investigated for its impact on the water quality parameters using different ozone dissolving pressures in a DOF process in order to optimise conditions. The results conclude that the use of an SBR and ozone contact by DOF-$PO_2$ is a highly effective treatment for pigment wastewater and aids in the achievement of effluent discharge criteria.

  • Animal cells in culture typically convert most of the glucose they consume into lactate. The accumulation of lactate, however, is commonly cited as one of the factors that inhibit cell growth and limit the maximum cell concentration that can be achieved in culture. The specific production of lactate and the amount of glucose converted to lactate can be reduced when cells are grown in a fed-batch culture in which the residual glucose concentration is maintained at low levels. Such a fed-batch culture was used to grow and adapt hybridoma cells into a low-lactate-producing state before changing into continuous culture. The cells reached and maintained a high viable cell concentration at steady state. In a similar manner, cells that were initially grown in batch culture and a glucose-rich environment reached a steady state with a cell concentration that is much lower. The feed composition and dilution rates for both cultures were similar, suggesting steady state multiplicity. From a processing perspective the desired steady state among those is the one with the least metabolite production. At such seady state nutrient concentration in the feed can be further increased to increase cell and product concentrations without causing the metabolite inhibitory effect typically seen in a cell culture. Controlling cell metabolism in a continuous culture to reduce or eliminate waste metabolite production may significantly improve the productivity of mammalian cell culture processes.

  • Plant disease is one of the issues that can create losses in the production and economy of the agricultural sector. Early detection of this disease for finding solutions and treatments is still a challenge in the sustainable agriculture field. Currently, image processing techniques and machine learning methods have been applied to detect plant diseases successfully. However, the effectiveness of these methods still needs to be improved, especially in multiclass plant diseases classification. In this paper, a convolutional neural network with a batch normalization-based deep learning approach for classifying plant diseases is used to develop an automatic diagnostic assistance system for leaf diseases. The significance of using deep learning technology is to make the system be end-to-end, automatic, accurate, less expensive, and more convenient to detect plant diseases from their leaves. For evaluating the proposed model, an experiment is conducted on a public dataset contains 20654 images with 15 plant diseases. The experimental validation results on 20% of the dataset showed that the model is able to classify the 15 plant diseases labels with 96.4% testing accuracy and 0.168 testing loss. These results confirmed the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed model for the plant disease detection task.
