This paper presents a new overall system for state-of-available-power (SoAP) prediction for a lithium-ion battery pack. The essential part of this method is based on an adaptive network architecture which utilizes both fuzzy model (FIS) and artificial neural network (ANN) into the framework of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). While battery aging proceeds, the system is capable of delivering accurate power prediction not only for room temperature, but also at lower temperatures at which power prediction is most challenging. Due to design property of ANN, the network parameters are adapted on-line to the current battery states (state-of-charge (SoC), state-of-health (SoH), temperature). SoC is required as an input parameter to SoAP module and high accuracy is crucial for a reliable on-line adaptation. Therefore, a reasonable way to determine the battery state variables is proposed applying a combination of several partly different algorithms. Among other SoC boundary estimation methods, robust extended Kalman filter (REKF) for recalibration of amp hour counters was implemented. ANFIS then achieves the SoAP estimation by means of time forward voltage prognosis (TFVP) before a power pulse occurs. The trade-off between computational cost of batch-learning and accuracy during on-line adaptation was optimized resulting in a real-time system with TFVP absolute error less than 1%. The verification was performed on a software-in-the-loop test bench setup using a 53 Ah lithium-ion cell.

The deviations in the injection orbital parameters, resulting from launcher dispersions, need to be estimated and used for autonomous satellite operations. For the proposed small satellite mission of the university there will be two GPS receivers onboard the satellite to provide the instantaneous orbital state to the onboard data handling system. In order to meet the power requirements, the satellite will be sun-tracking whenever there is no imaging operation. For imaging activities, the satellite will be maneuvered to nadir-pointing mode. Due to such different modes of orientation the geometry for the GPS receivers will not be favorable at all times and there will be instances of poor geometry resulting in no output from the GPS receivers. Onboard the satellite, the orbital information should be continuously available for autonomous switching on/off of various subsystems. The paper presents the strategies to make use of small arcs of data from GPS receivers to compute the mean orbital parameters and use the updated orbital parameters to calculate the position and velocity whenever the same is not available from GPS receiver. Thus the navigation message from the GPS receiver, namely the position vector in Earth-Centered-Earth-Fixed (ECEF) frame, is used as measurements. As for estimation, two techniques - (1) batch least squares method, and (2) Kalman Filter method are used for orbit estimation (in real time). The performance of the onboard orbit estimation has been assessed based on hardware based multi-channel GPS Signal simulator. The results indicate good converge even with short arcs of data as the GPS navigation data are generally very accurate and the data rate is also fast (typically 1Hz).

Cost estimation of an intermittent aerobic digestion technology was carried out in this study. Aeration ratio is one of the most important design factors and it affects installation and power consumption cost. For the purpose, digestion efficiency was fixed at 35% of SS reduction and the reactor type was assumed a 2-chamber sequencing batch reactor (SBR). Installation cost and power consumption cost were evaluated and converted in terms of present value that could reflect the rate of discount and the rate of economic growth. The lower aeration ratio needs higher installation cost but lower power consumption cost. From the point of only installation cost, conventional aerobic digestion is cheaper than intermittent aerobic digestion. But intermittent aerobic digestion is better economical for more than 10 years of estimated service life. The optimal aeration ratio was dependent on the service life and it was lower as the estimated service life increased. For the 45 years as the service life, the optimal aeration ratio was estimated 0.3 and the total cost was 64% of the conventional aerobic digestion.

In this paper, I propose a response modeling with a Semi-Supervised Support Vector Regression (SS-SVR) algorithm. In order to increase the accuracy and profit of response modeling, unlabeled data in the customer dataset are used with the labeled data during training. The proposed SS-SVR algorithm is designed to be a batch learning to reduce the training complexity. The label distributions of unlabeled data are estimated in order to consider the uncertainty of labeling. Then, multiple training data are generated from the unlabeled data and their estimated label distributions with oversampling to construct the training dataset with the labeled data. Finally, a data selection algorithm, Expected Margin based Pattern Selection (EMPS), is employed to reduce the training complexity. The experimental results conducted on a real-world marketing dataset showed that the proposed response modeling method trained efficiently, and improved the accuracy and the expected profit.
Trickling filter has been extensively studied for the domestic wastewater treatment especially for the small scale plants in rural area. The performance of the trickling filter depends on the microbial community and their activity in the biofilms on the media. Nitrification. denitrification, and phosphorus removal of the trickling filter from the wastewater depend on the activity and the amount of the specific microorganisms responsible for the metabolism. For the estimation of the performance of a trickling filter, batch nitrification experiment and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) were carried out to measure the microbial activity and its distribution on the media of the trickling filter. Batch nitrification activity measurement showed that the top part of the 1st stage trickling filter had the highest nitrification activity and the maximum activity was 0.002 g $NH_4$-N/g MLVSS${\cdot}$h. It is thought that higher substrate (ammonia) concentration yields more nitrifying bacteria in the biofilms. The dominant ammonia oxidizer and nitrite oxidizer in the biofilm were Nitrosomonas species and genus Nitrospira, respectively, by FISH analysis. Less denitrifiers were found than nitrifiers in the biofilm by the probe Rrp1088 which specifically binds to Rhodobacter, Rhodovulum, Roseobacter, and Paracoccus. Phosphorus accumulating bacteria were mostly found at the surface of the biofilm by probe Rc988 and PAO651 which specifically binds to Rhodocyclus group and their biomass was less than that of nitrifiers.

In this study, we investigated the variations of the kinetic coefficients and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), N and P mass used for assimilation of a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) system with the variation of SRTs; SRTs of 7.5, 10.0, 12.5, 15.0 and 20.0 days were tested in one cycle of SBR operation to determine the optimum conditions for the operation of the SBR and estimate its COD, nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiencies. The SBR system was operated under the conditions as follows: an operation time of 6 hours per cycle, a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 12 hours, an influent COD loading of $0.4kg/m^3/day$, and an influent nitrogen loading of $0.068kgT-N/m^3/day$. The yield coefficient (Y) and decay rate coefficient ($k_d$) were estimated to be 0.4198 kgMLVSS/kgCOD and $0.0107day^{-1}$ by calculating the removal rate of substrate according to the variation of SRT. Considering total nitrogen amount removed by sludge waste process, eliminated by denitrification, and in clarified water effluent with reference to 150 mg/cycle of influent nitrogen amount, the percentage of nitrogen mass balance from the ratio of the nitrogen amount in effluent (N output) to that in influent (N input) for Runs 1~5 were 95.5, 97.0, 95.5, 99.5, and 95.5%, respectively, which is well accounted for, with mass balances close to 100%.
Korean wastewaters have higher nitrogen concentrations than typical wastewaters of other countries. Most treatment processes such as activated sludge processes will need to supplement extra carbon sources for a complete removal of remaining nitrogen after the initial wastewater treatment, Because of these difficult matters, we have searched wastewater treatment methods that require no additional carbon sources. Wastewater treatment by microalgae in photobioreactors, using a green eukaryotic microalgae, Chlorella kessleri, showed a promising results and thus was selected to study further. This system is not intended to replace the conventional system but is to assist the existing biological treatment systems as a supplemental nitrogen removal process. Thus the secondary treated livestock wastewater was tested. Column type photobioreactors developed in our laboratory were used. When aerated with 5% CO$_2$ balanced with air at 1 vvm and illuminated at 100 ${\mu}$mol/㎡/s under 25$^{\circ}C$ and PH 7-8 by CO$_2$ buffering effect, the maximum nitrogen removal rate was 2.6 mg/L/hr. The results confirmed a possibility of microalgal wastewater treatment system as a secondary system to remove extra nitrogen sources. Based on these experimental results, the size of the optimal microalgal wastewater system was calculated. For the wastewater whose initial nitrogen concentration of 150 mg/L, the optimal batch system was found to be a 2 stage system with a combined retention time of 4.6 day. From the continuous experiments, nitrogen removal rates were examined under different dilution rates and 2 stage system was also found to be the optimal system. The combined retention time for the continuous system was 3.5 days. It is expected that conventional biological wastewater treatment systems followed by microalgal systems would reliably decrease the nitrogen concentration below the government criteria even for the livestock wastewater with low C/N ratio.

This paper focuses on a performance analysis of TRN among various nonlinear filtering methods. In a TRN research, extended Kalman filter(EKF) is a basic estimation algorithm. In this paper, iterated EKF(IEKF), EKF with stochastic linearization(SL), and unscented Kalman filter(UKF) algorithms are introduced to compare navigation performance with original EKF. In addition to introduced sequential filters, bank of Kalman filters method, which is one of the batch method, is also presented. Finally, by simulating an artificial aircraft mission, EKF with SL was chosen as the most consistent filter in the introduced sequential filters. Also, results suggested that the bank of Kalman filters can be alternative for TRN, when a fast convergence of navigation solution is needed.

A series of factors such as sampling, pretreatment measurement, volume estimation which induces uncertainty of the calculated radioactivity in liquid effluent released from a nuclear power plant were analyzed. It is innately impossible to estimate exact error of the calculated radioactivity, since most of the input parameters are determined by a single measurement and true value of the released radioactivity cannot be known. In this paper, a systematic model to calculate uncertainty of the released liquid radioactivity was developed based upon the guidance report published by the ISO in 1993, and the model was applied to a set of hypothetical batch release conditions. As a result, the Priority of each input parameter was turned out to be (1) wastewater volume, (2) sample volume, and (3) measured radioactivity of the sample. In addition, probability distribution of the released radioactivity was simulated by Monte Carlo method combining the probability distribution of each input parameter It was shown that the radioactivity released to the environment, which has been reported as a single value, has a certain form of probability distribution.

Heterotrophic biomass yield coefficients, $Y_H$, for aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic reactors were successfully estimated for the two wastewater treatment plants, where one plant was operating in the $A^2/O$ process and the other was operating in the 4-stage BNR process. The estimation of $Y_H$ was undertaken by plotting the biomass COD concentrations versus the soluble COD concentrations in order to calculate the ${\Delta}biomass$ COD/ ${\Delta}soluble$ COD in each batch reactor. The batch reactors employed in this study were fed by filtered influent and mixed liquors in the ratio of 10:1, and operated in the aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic conditions, which represented the actual operating conditions for the $A^2/O$ and 4-stage BNR process. The average $Y_H$ values of the aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic reactor for the $A^2/O$ process were 0.52, 0.41 and 0.18 mg COD/mg COD, respectively, and those for the 4-stage BNR process were 0.58, 0.40 and 0.20 mg COD/mg COD, respectively. The average ratio of the $Y_H$ for aerobic reactors to those for the anoxic reactors were about 1:0.79 for the $A^2/O$ process, and about 1:0.69 for the 4-stage BNR process. The experimental method for anoxic and anaerobic $Y_H$ estimation shown in this study has turned out to be simple and efficient in its practical application.
