A reduction in dietary crude protein with amino acid balance has no negative effects in pigs

  • The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the effects of low crude protein (CP) level with essential amino acids (AA) addition on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, microbiota, and volatile fatty acid composition in growing pigs. A total of 160 growing pigs (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc [LYD]; average initial body weight 16.68 ± 0.12 kg) were randomly allotted to one of the four treatments on the basis of initial body weight. A randomized complete block design was used to conduct this experiment in the Research Center of Animal Life Sciences at Kangwon National University. There were ten pigs/replicate with four replicates in each treatment. The treatments include; CON (Control, 17.2% dietary CP level), low protein (LP)-1.10 (15.7% dietary CP level + 1.10% lysine level), LP-1.15 (15.7% dietary CP level + 1.15% lysine level), LP1.2 (15.7% dietary CP level + 1.20% lysine level). The pigs fed CON and LP-1.2 diet showed greater final body weight than that of LP-1.1 diet (p < 0.05). Although average daily gain, average daily feed intake, and feed efficiency did not show any difference in phase 2 and 3, average daily gain and feed efficiency was significantly greater in CON and LP-1.20 in phase 1. However, the average daily feed intake did not show any difference during the experimental period. Isobutyric acid and isovaleric acid composition of LP treatments were lower than CON treatment in phase 2. Total branched chain fatty acid composition was significantly lower in LP treatment in phases 1 and 2. However, there was no significant difference among treatments in phase 3. The results of this study underscore the importance of AA supplementation when implementing a low-protein diet during the early growth phase (16-50 kg) in pigs.

소형 퇴비화용기에서 가정 음식물쓰레기의 퇴비화 과정 중 감량화 및 생산 퇴비의 물리화학적 특성 (Mass Reduction and Physicochemical Properties of the Produced Compost during Composting Domestic Food Wastes in a Small Composter)

  • 본 연구에서는 소형 퇴비화 용기의 최적 조건에서 미생물이나 퇴비화 보조제를 첨가하지 않고 가정에서 발생되는 음식물쓰레기를 매일 1 kg씩 투입하여 퇴비화를 진행하였다. 실험결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다; 퇴비화 진행과정 중 수분함량은 $51.04{\sim}53.45%$로 유지되었다. 질소는 퇴비화 진행과정에서 산화되어 암모니아성 질소 및 아질산성 질소로서 검출되지 않았다. Hemicellulose, Lignin은 시간의 경과에 따라 뚜렷한 경향을 나타내지 않았으나, Cellulose는 점차 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 중금속의 함량은 Cu, Cd, Pb, Hg, As는 검출되지 않았고 Cr은 $9.8{\sim}13.8$ mg/kg으로 부산물 비료의 기준치 300 mg/kg보다 낮았으며, Zn은 $25{\sim}100$ mg/kg이었다. 무기성분은 $P_2O_5$ $1.32{\sim}1.71%$, CaO $1.29{\sim}1.48%$, MgO $0.41{\sim}0.49%$, $K_2O$ $0.38{\sim}0.74%$로 퇴비화 과정 중 큰 변화가 없었다. 20일 동안 퇴비화한 후 무게 감소율은 습윤 기준 67.5%, 분해율은 48%이었다. 배출된 퇴비의 숙성도는 3등급이었다.

Effects of Feed Processing Methods on Growth Performance and Ileal Digestibility of Amino Acids in Young Pigs

  • Three experiments were conducted to determine the feed processing method best suited for early and conventionallyweaned pigs, and to investigate the effects of different extrusion temperatures on ileal digestibility of amino acids in diets containing different protein sources. In exp.1, a total of 108 pigs (Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire${\times}$Duroc; 24 d of age and 7.60 kg average body weight) were alloted on the basis of sex, weight and ancestry to three treatments in a randomized complete block design. Feed processing methods used were mash (M), simple pellet (SP), and expanded pellet (EP). In exp. 2, a total of 96 pigs (Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire${\times}$Duroc; 14 d of age) were allotted on the basis of sex, weight, and ancestry to three treatments in a randomized complete block design. Diets were mash (M), expanded pellet (EP), and expanded pellet crumble (EPC). In exp. 3, a study was designed to investigate the effect of different extrusion temperatures (100, 120, and $140^{\circ}C$) over the control (untreated) on the ileal digestibility of amino acids in diets containing protein sources such as spray-dried plasma protein (SDPP), whey protein concentrate (WPC), and fish meal (FM). Results in exp.1 showed that ADG, ADFI and the F/G ratio of pigs fed the SP diet were improved (p<0.05) compared with those fed the M or the EP diets, but the digestibility of nutrients was not different (p>0.05) among the treatments. In exp. 2, pigs fed expanded pellet treatments (EP or EPC) had a significantly improved (p<0.05) F/G ratio compared to the pigs fed the M diet which was primarily attributed to the significant reduction (p<0.05) in ADFI, but the overall growth rate of pigs fed expanded pellet diets was not improved. In exp. 3, there was a significant interaction effect (p<0.05) between the extrusion temperature and protein source on the ileal digestibility of amino acids. With an extrusion temperature of $100^{\circ}C$, the ileal digestibility of Lys, Val, Gly and Ser was significantly lower in the diet containing WPC compared to the diet containing SDPP. Increasing the temperature to $120^{\circ}C$ led to significant differences (p<0.05) in the digestibility of Thr and Tyr between diets containing WPC and SDPP. Regardless of extrusion temperatures, the weaned pigs' diet containing either SDPP or FM had significantly higher Lys, Phe, Thr, Val, and Gly digestibility relative to the WPC diet. Results of the present study suggest that simple pelleting of diets containing protein sources such as whey protein concentrate, spray-dried plasma protein and fish meal would be better than the extruded or expanded pellet diets. Extruder or expander processing of weaned pigs' feed could reduce palatability and ileal digestibility of several amino acids and therefore may be responsible for a negative growth response in weaned pigs.

  • 덩굴쪼김병 저항성 수박 유전자원과 대목으로서 잠재력이 있는 박과작물의 수박 대목으로의 이용 가능성을 검토하기 위하여 수박대목 4계통을 포함한 7종류의 대목묘에 접목한 삼복꿀 수박을 저온조건과 적온조건의 하우스에서 재배하면서 그 생육 반응을 조사하였다. 저온에서의 생장정도는 적온에 비해 덩굴길이 40~47%, 엽면적 39~51%, 지상부 생체중 38~59%, 식물체 건물중 57~87% 수준이었다. 수박 유전자원인 PI 482322는 대목으로 이용했을 경우 저온에서 접수의 생장이 '신토좌' 대목과 유사할 정도로 좋았다. 또한 'PI 271769 ${\times}$ PI 296341'과 'PI 271769 ${\times}$ Calhoun Gray' 대목은 'FR 단토스' 대목구와 유사하였다. 저온신장성 지수는 $C.$ $martinezii$, '신토좌', PI 482322와 'PI 271769 ${\times}$ PI 296341'를 대목으로 이용한 처리에서 50 이상으로 비교적 높았으며, 무접목묘와 'Knight'에서 낮았다. 수박 대목으로 많이 이용하고 있는 'FR 단토스' 박 대목에 비해 PI 482322, 'PI 271769 ${\times}$ PI 296341', 'PI 271769 ${\times}$ Calhoun Gray' 대목은 저온신장성이 좋거나 유사한 것으로 나타나서 저온기재배에서 이들 수박 대목의 이용 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 2016년 3월 6.67톤 어선이 크레인 작업을 하던 중 복원성 상실로 인한 전복 사고가 발생하였다. 전복은 충돌, 접촉, 좌초, 화재 및 폭발의 결과로 발생한 사고는 제외하고 선박이 뒤집힌 것을 말한다. 지난 9년동안(2010-2018), 전복 사고는 전체 해양사고의 2.34%를 차지하고 있으며 증가와 감소를 반복하고 있다. 10톤 미만 소형어선의 주된 전복사고 원인은 부적절한 선적에 따른 복원성 상실이다. 어선법에 따르면 소형 어선은 복원성과 1톤 미만 제한 하중 크레인에 대해서 복원성과 예비검사를 면제해 주고 있다. 본 연구는 고성에서 발생한 소형 어선의 전복 사고 재결서의 원인으로 언급된 사항 중 크레인 증량에 따른 복원 모멘트 감소에 대해 실제 제원이 비슷한 어선을 모델링하여 이를 통해 사고 전·후의 어선 상태를 가상하여 복원성을 비교하였다. 그 결과 기존 보다 무거운 크레인으로의 교체 시에는 복원 모멘트 감소와 현단몰입각의 감소로 전복의 위험성이 증가되었다. 표준재화 상태에서는 입·출항시 보다는 어로 활동을 하고 있는 상황에서의 복원 모멘트가 감소되는 것을 확인하였다.

자일리톨의 효과 및 활용방법에 대한 고찰 (A review of effect and how to use xylitol)

  • Objectives : This paper is designed to help the public prevent their future dental caries, based on the studies of xylitol about it's efficacy and effectiveness, and its appropriate usage. Methods : This study of xylitol on the basis of existing research papers and literature is not only to learn about the mechanism of what xylitol acts, but also to search the effectiveness of incompleteness of xylitol-containing foods, bacterial infection between xylitol and mother-baby, and the side-effects of xylitol. Results : 1. Xylitol's continuous intake of teeth effects the decrease of calculus amount, cleanness of teeth, as well as the remineralization process. The xylitol effect varies depending on the weight of xylitol, which has no effect on root caries. 2. Mouth gargle solution is higher resistant against acids; recalcification is significantly reduced; and remineralization effect represents. 3. It is reported that regular consumption of xylitol by mothers just during two years after birth has significantly decreased the spread possibility of mutans streptococcei. 4. The reduction of dental caries by xylitol is happened by its restraining the growth of bacteria resource caries, with their presence in amount of uncontrolled growth. 5. When a small amount of eating xylitol is absorbed slowly into gastrointestinal tract, being followed by glucose metabolism in the liver, while its excessive amount of eating can cause gastrointestinal problems. Conclusion : Dental hygienists should be required to provide dental information to the public on the basis of academic knowledge. In situation that one is not yet sure of xylitol on solid and multifaceted researches, there must be needed more accurate and detailed reviews on the side-effects of xylitol and the overall impact on the oral environments.

차전자약침(車前子藥鍼)이 Cisplatin에 의해 유발된 급성 신부전에 미치는 영향 (Beneficial Effect of Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture on Cisplatin-Induced Acute Renal Failure in Rabbits)

  • Objective : The present study was carried out to determine if Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture exerts beneficial effect against the cisplatin-induced acute renal failure in rabbits. Method : Semen Plantaginis was selected in the basis of invigorating kidney-QI which can eliminate pathogens. The oxidative stability determined by the Rancimat technique showed higher antioxidative index when compared with control. Rabbits were treated with Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture on Shin-shu point for 3 days, followed by cisplatin injection(5mg/kg body weight). Results : Cisplatin injection caused an increase in serum creatinine level, which was accompanied by a reduction in GFR. The fractional excretion of $Na^{+}$, $K^{+}$, glucose and phosphate increased in cisplatin-induced animals, which was partially prevented by Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture treatment. Cisplatin injection increased lipid peroxidation, which was not prevented by Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture. Conclusions : These results indicate that lipid peroxidation plays a critical role in cisplatin-induced acute renal failure. Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture exerts the protective effect against acute renal failure induced by cisplatin, and its effect may be attribued to an antioxidant action.

Effect of Strawberry Puree on the Physicochemical Properties of Kochujang

  • Quality characteristics of kochujang prepared with strawberry puree (10, 20, and 30% on the total weight basis) were investigated after 30 and 300 days of storage. The moisture content of strawberry kochujang at 300 days was considerably higher than that of strawberry kochujang at 30 days and increasing strawberry content from 0 to 30% significantly increased moisture content of kochujang progressively (p<0.05). Water activity and titratable acidity also showed similar trends, but pH showed the reverse trend with the highest value in control at 30 days and the lowest value in 30% strawberry kochujang at 300 days. As the strawberry puree content increased, amino-nitrogen content consistently and correspondingly decreased. Amino-nitrogen content at 300 days was higher than that of strawberry kochujang at 30 days. Soluble solids content also showed a similar trend, but soluble solid content at 300 days was considerably lower than that of strawberry kochujang at 30 days. Reduction in soluble solids content with increasing strawberry concentration was more evident at 30 days than at 300 day.

  • Purpose: The present study was carried out to determine if Paljeong-san extract (PJS) treatment exerts beneficial effect against the glycerol-induced acute renal failure in rabbits. Material and Method: PJS was selected in the basis of invigorating kidney which can eliminate pathogens. Rabbits were treated with PJS pharmacopuncture on Shin-shu ($BL_{23}$) point for 5 days right after the injection of 50% concentration of glycerol ($5m{\ell}/kg$ body weight). Results and Conclusions: Glycerol injection caused an increase in serum creatinine and BUN level and urine glucose secretion, which were accompanied by a reduction in GFR. PJS Pharmacopuncture treatment combined with peritoneal injection showed beneficial effect on glycerol-induced acute renal failure by inhibition of serum creatinine increase and GFR decrease.

태양광 패널 적용 방열용 탄소소재의 제조 및 열전달 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer and Fabrication of Carbon Material for Heat Dissipation in Solar Panel)

  • This analysis demonstrates the effective removal of heat generated from a solar panel's output degradation factor solar cells (the solar panel's output deterioration factor), and solves the problems of oxidation and corrosion in existing metal heat sinks. The heat-dissipating test specimen was prepared using carbon materials; then, its thermal conductivity and its effectiveness in reducing temperatures were studied using heat transfer numerical analysis. As a result, the test specimen of the 30g/㎡ basis weight containing 80% of carbon fiber impregnated with carbon ink showed the highest thermal conductivity 6.96 W/(m K). This is because the surface that directly contacted the solar panel had almost no pores, and the conduction of heat to the panels appeared to be active. In addition, a large surface area was exposed to the atmosphere, which is considered advantageous in heat dissipation. Finally, numerical analysis confirmed the temperature reduction effectiveness of 2.18℃ in a solar panel and 1.08℃ in a solar cell, depending on the application of heat dissipating materials.
