  • We initiate the study of interval-valued fuzzy quasi-ideal of a semigroup. In Section 2, we list some basic definitions in the later sections. In Section 3, we investigate interval-valued fuzzy subsemigroups and in Section 4, we define interval-valued fuzzy quasi-ideals and establish some of their basic properties. In Section 5, we obtain characterizations of regular and intraregular semigroups using the machinery developed in the preceding sections.

  • In the field of food and drug, the role of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is becoming more important for national and public safety as well as national development and improvement of public welfare. Food and drug statistics are being used to determine the priorities and directions of policy for the promotion of public health and the development of the health industry. This study focuses on statistics from the MFDS. Through the analysis of the MFDS's statistics, the current status of the MFDS's production statistics was identified, and the survey of utilization and satisfaction of the MFDS's statistics was conducted on food and drug experts who actually use the statistics of the MFDS. In order to identify problems of the MFDS statistics, environmental factors affecting the MFDS statistics were derived, and the priorities of improvement tasks for its statistics were identified using AHP and IPA. In addition, the current situation of the statistical system, which serve as the basic coordinate for the establishment and execution of domestic food and drug policies, was identified and implications were provided.

  • In 1997 a new educational system that allows student to transfer between and within universities was first introduced. As a result, most colleges of basic arts and sciences face a serious problem since quite a few students there have transferred or seems to want to transfer. In this paper we study a problem of building a forecasting neural network for students who can possibly transfer.

  • In this article, we propose a regression and correlation analysis via dynamic graphs and implement them in Java Web Start. For the polynomial relations between dependent and independent variables, dynamic graphics are implemented for both polynomial regression and spline estimates for an instant model selection. The results include basic statistics. They are available both as a web-based service and an application.

  • The singular value decomposition of a rectangular matrix is a basic tool to understand the structure of the data and particularly the relationship between row and column factors. However, conventional singular value decomposition used the least squares method and is not robust to outliers. We propose a simple robust singular value decomposition algorithm based on the weighted least absolute deviation which is not sensitive to leverage points. Its implementation is easy and the computation time is reasonably low. Numerical results give the data structure and the outlying information.

  • Statistics items required by National Library Statistics System are based on data for library evaluation and policy making of library management from a theoretical standpoint. However, It is realized there are differences between Statistics items required by National Library Statistics System and those can be collected at the field of public libraries. In accordance with this point, this paper contained an analysis of a working diary log of public libraries as a basic material able to collect data at the field of public libraries and also surveyed the present usage situation of Library Management Program able to automatically collect data to recognize that National Library Statistics is reliably or validly objective data. An analysis data of this research will be a basic material to plan the standard guide of a working diary log of public libraries from now on.

  • Analogy, a plausible reasoning on the basis of similarity, is one of the thinking strategy for concept formation, problem solving, and new discovery in many disciplines. Statistics educators argue that analogy can be used as an useful thinking strategy in statistics as well. This study investigated the characteristics of students' analogical thinking in statistics. The mathematically gifted were asked to construct similar problems to a base problem which is a statistical problem having a statistical context. From the analysis of the problems, students' new problems were classified into five types on the basis of the preservation of the statistical context and that of the basic structure of the base problem. From the result, researchers provide some implications. In statistics, the problems, which failed to preserve the statistical context of base problem, have no meaning in statistics. However, the problems which preserved the statistical context can give possibilities for reconceptualization of the statistical concept even though the basic structure of the problem were changed.

  • Recently, the number of students taking basic statistics in liberal arts courses at universities nationwide has been increasing significantly. Students who learn statistics only for one semester are more likely to live as consumers than producers of statistical analysis in the future. What consumers need is statistical literacy and thinking skills rather than statistical methods. This paper deals with what points should be considered in order to develop textbooks that improve statistical thinking.

  • The estimation of extreme quantiles is one of the main objectives of statistics of extremes (which deals with the estimation of rare events). In this paper, a robust estimator of extreme quantile of a heavy-tailed distribution is considered. The estimator is obtained through the minimum density power divergence criterion on an exponential regression model. The proposed estimator was compared with two estimators of extreme quantiles in the literature in a simulation study. The results show that the proposed estimator is stable to the choice of the number of top order statistics and show lesser bias and mean square error compared to the existing extreme quantile estimators. Practical application of the proposed estimator is illustrated with data from the pedochemical and insurance industries.
