Application of band-pass filtering techniques for improvement on 3D tomogram (3D Tomogram 향상을 위한 Band-pass Filtering 기술의 활용)

  • 초고전압 투과전자현미경으로부터 생산된 2D 이미지들에는 고전압(1250 kV)의 사용으로 인한 다양한 노이즈가 발생한다. 따라서 2D 이미지로부터 3D tomogram으로 재구성시 선명도 향상을 위하여 2D 이미지의 노이즈 제거 과정은 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 band-pass filtering 기법을 활용하여 노이즈를 상당 부분 제거하였고, 필터링된 이미지로부터 3D tomogram으로 재구성한 경우 band-pass filtering의 효과가 2D 이미지에서 뿐만아니라 3D tomogram으로 재구성 했을 경우에 어떤 대역의 filter radius를 적용해야 더욱 효과가 크다는 사실을 확인하였다.

The Effectiveness of a Program in Activities for Early Students to Develop Some of the Basic Skills Needed for the Age of Artificial Intelligence

  • The study aimed to build a program in activities for early childhood students to develop some of the basic skills necessary for the age of artificial intelligence, to achieve the objectives of the study , the researcher used the experimental design, and the research sample consisted of 37 early childhood students. The study used the following tools: Experimental treatment subject: the proposed program in the activities, Measurement and evaluation tool: testing the basic skills needed for the age of artificial intelligence. The study concluded several results: There is a statistically significant difference (α≤0.05) between the average grades of the early childhood students in the research group in the tribal and remote measurements to test the basic skills necessary for the age of artificial intelligence in favor of the students grades in the dimensional measurements. Practical application of the study through benefiting from the proposed program of activities prepared in the current study in planning and implementing activities to develop the basic skills necessary for the age of artificial intelligence among early childhood students.

Changes in Anti-inflammatory Effect of Pyungwi-san Decoction According to the Preservation Temperature and Period (평위산 전탕액의 보관 온도 및 기간에 따른 항염증 효능 비교)

  • Objectives : To provide the information of preservation method for herbal decoction, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory effects according to preservation temperature and period of Pyungwi-san (PWS, Ping wei-san) decoction. Methods : The anti-inflammatory activity of PWS was investigated by carrageenin-induced paw edema in SD rats. At 0 month, PWS extract was administrated 100, 300 and 1000 mg/kg/day orally for seven days prior to induction of edema. Edema was induced by subcutaneous injection of 1% carrageenin into the right hind paw. The paw volume was measured at 4 hr following carrageenin-induced paw edema in rats. At 6 and 12 months, PWS extracts according to preservation temperatures (room temperature, $4^{\circ}C$ and $-20^{\circ}C$) were administrated in rats and then carrageenin-induced paw edema volume was measured. Results : PWS showed inhibitory effect on carrageenin-induced paw edema in rats and the optimal dose was 1000 mg/kg/day at 0 month of storage. At 6 month of storage, PWS storaged at $4^{\circ}C$ and $-20^{\circ}C$ were inhibited paw edema but that storaged at room temperature was not reduced paw edema in rats. Conclusions : These results suggest that PWS decoction pouch has anti-inflammatory activities at both $4^{\circ}C$ and $-20^{\circ}C$ during 6 month storage.

Fluorine and Heavy Metal Oxide Effects on Spectral Properties of Tm3+ in Silicate Glasses

  • The fluorine doping along with heavy metal oxides remarkably raised the $^3$H$_4$ lifetime and the quantum efficiency in Tm$^{3+}$-doped silicate glasses. 29 mol% of fluorine substitution for oxygen in 70SiO$_2$-15Pbo-12ZnO-3KO$_{1}$2/ glass raised $^3$H$_4$ lifetime to 193 $mutextrm{s}$. Refractive indices were raised by heavy metal oxide substitution, but hardly changed by fluorine substitution. The fluorine doping changed the local structure around Tm$^{3+}$ions, then low energy vibrations related to fluorine are considered to largely reduce the multi-phonon relaxation rates in the oxyfluoride silicate glasses. The $^3$H$_4$ lifetimes and absorption and emission spectra of Tm$^{3+}$doped silicate and oxyfluoride silicate glasses are reported, and Judd-Ofelt calculation results are discussed in this paper.

  • 이 논문에서는 음성인식기술을 이용한 연구센타 부서안내 시스팀(KARS:Korea Telecom Automatic voice Recognition system)에 대하여 기술하였다. 이 시스팀은 기본적으로 음성응답 시스팀과 유사하지만 명령입력을 위해 푸시버튼 대신 음성을 이용한다는 점이 다르다. 사용자가 마이크로폰을 통해 음성명령을 입력하면, 이 시스팀은 사용자의 음성명령을 인식하여 연구센타내 각 부서의 간략한 소개, 전화번호 및 위치를 안내해 준다. 이 시스팀은 HMM(Hidden Markov Model)을 이용하는 화자독립 격리단어 인식시스팀으로서 116개의 부서이름과 7개의 제어용 단어로 구성되어 있는 123개 단어를 인식할 수 있다. 이 시스팀은 음소와 유사한 한국어 서브워드(subword)를 HMM의 기본단위로 사용하며 인식 실험결과 98.6%의 인식율을 얻을 수 있었다.

Sexual Size Dimorphism of the Mouthpart and Antenna of Cyllorhynchites ursulus in Korea (한국에 서식하는 도토리거위벌레(Cyllorhynchites ursulus) 구기 및 더듬이 길이의 성적이형성 연구)

  • Sexual dimorphism of the mouthpart, antenna and mandible of the Cyllorhynchites ursulus in South Korea was studied with linear measurements. The mouthpart and antenna measurements were conducted with a stereoscopic microscope using 122 specimens (72 males and 50 females). Microscopic observation of the mandible were conducted with a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM) using 103 specimens (73 males and 30 females). Results showed that the size difference between males and females was significant in the size of the mouthpart and antenna. On the other hand, we could not detect sexual size dimorphism in the microstructure of the mandible. The bivariate plots made by the result of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Discriminant Analysis (DA) showed a size dimorphism in the size of the mouthpart and the antenna between males and females. Based on our study, sexual dimorphism in the mouthpart and antenna exists in C. ursulus from the South Korean population, and this difference seems to be related to the behavioral differences between males and females.

  • Because of insufficiency of energy resources and pollution of environment, it is necessary to develop alternative energy sources. Nuclear fission energy is used widely for source of electric Power but being restricted due to radioactivity problem. Nuclear fission is highlighted as the new generation of nuclear energy and researched worldwide because of low risk of radiation effect. The representatives of fusion research is China's EAST, KSTAR of Korea and ITER of world. Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research(KSTAR) project is on progress for the completion in August, 2007. In this study, the research of utility system for KSTAR be carried out. The utility system of KSTAR is consist of water cooling & heating system, $N_2$ gas system, DI water system, service water system and instrument air & auto control system. The progress of KSTAR utility system is under commissioning state after construction completion. The optimal operation scenario will be verified during commissioning and adopted to the KSTAR operation.

Impact Analysis of Government Subsidy Fluctuations on Basic Research Outputs: focused on the IT field (정부연구비 지원 변동이 기초연구성과에 미치는 영향 분석: IT 분야를 중심으로)

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between fluctuations of a government subsidy and research outputs on the basic research field. An analysis of this study was conducted on basic research projects specifically on the field of information technology (IT) filed at university and Individual Research Programs of Korean ministry. Using various project characteristic variables, relationship between dependent variables and independent variables was controlled. To summarize results of a regression analysis, from looking at the correlation between fluctuations of a government subsidy and basic research outputs (weighted papers and patents), the result showed a positive relationship. The maximum effect of increased research funding projects on research outputs was 8 times greater than an effect of maintained funding projects. Moreover, the maximum effect of decreased research funding projects on research outputs was 4 times greater than an effect of maintained funding projects. Base on this result, we suggested implications from academic and practical aspects.

  • Recently, Korea has been making efforts at the government level to overcome the national crisis that Japan's dependency on technology in the semiconductor and display materials sectors has also escaped due to export regulations on three materials carried out by Japan. Therefore, based on the data of the National Science & Technology Information Service (NTIS) operated by the government, we analyze the trend of R & D investment in the display field, thereby improving R & D to improve material technology competitiveness in the future. Let's examine the implications of investment. A total of 5 years of new research and development investment in the field of display was invested as basic research fund for 25%, 15% for applied research, and 53% for development research. In terms of development cost and development period, the basic research showed that the amount of money and the development period were shorter than that of applied research. In other words, the basic research accounted for 25% of the R & D investment and the average R & D period was only 3.2 years. As we can see from the recent development of H fiber carbon fiber, which was recently developed and entered full-scale production, we were able to succeed because of the benefits of government support for 10 years while giving the same material title differently. In order to escape from Japan's technological dependence on semiconductor and display materials in Korea, As such, basic research in the field of materials is only possible when long-term research is conducted.

  • In wireless and handheld platforms area, performance, power and cost are key metrics for product success. This is driving increasing levels of on-chip integration in state-of-the-art application processors. The purpose of this project is to optimize and design the energy-efficient embedded system that properly displays video and audio in real time. The requirements are for the media player to be capable of decoding real-time streaming video and audio with the least possible energy consumption for a variety of different clips at different resolutions. We implemented this Linux based multimedia player on Intel's PXA27x platform.
