자유탐구활동이 초등학생의 과학탐구능력과 과학적 태도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Free Inquiry Activities on the Science Process Skills and Scientific Attitudes of Elementary School Students)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how free inquiry activities affects the scientific process skills and scientific attitudes of 5th and 6th of elementary school students. For this study, 265 elementary students from 5th and 6th grade in Seoul were selected. In comparison group 130 students were implemented and to the experimental group 135 students who did not the free inquiry activities were implemented. The result of this study is as follows: First, curiosity was the most affective factor that motivate free inquiry activities and made them select their topics. Most of the students invested for the inquiry activity in less than 3 weeks. They had some help in every stages. Students became interested in free inquiry activities because they learned new facts and enjoyed doing experiments and they wanted to continue for the same reasons. Second, free inquiry activities had little effect on the basic science process skills of the experimental group, compared to the control group at the significant difference of p=0.05. Third, free inquiry activities had considerable effect on the integrative inquiry process skills of the experimental group, compared to the control group at the significant difference of p=0.05. Fourth, the result of the post-test of the experimental group showed that free inquiry activities had no effect on scientific attitudes at the significant difference of p=0.05. In conclusion, free inquiry activities will be much more effective in developing integrative inquiry process skills than in developing basic scientific process skills and scientific attitudes.

국민공통기본교육과정 과학과 생명영역 물질대사 관련 탐구활동 분석 (Analysis of Inquiry Activities Related to Metabolism Presented in Life Science Textbooks Developed According to the National Common Basic Curriculum)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the connection among inquiry activities related to 'Metabolism' presented in life science textbooks developed according to the national common basic curriculum. To perform this, the type, process and context of inquiry activities of life science textbooks were analyzed. The number of inquiry activities is gradually increased from elementary to secondary school. As result of analysis, types, processes and skills, and context of inquiry were not balanced according to textbooks and school levels. It is suggested that the framework of evaluating inquiry activities based on curriculum objectives be provided when developing science textbooks. It also implies that teachers need to reconstruct inquiry contents and activities suitable to school situations when they teach in the real fields of education.

10학년 과학 교과서 지구 단원의 탐구 과제 분석 (Analysis of Inquiry Tasks in Earth Unit of the 10th Grade Science Textbooks)

  • 10학년 과학 교과서 지구 단원의 학습 내용에 포함되어 있는 탐구 과제가 제7차 교육 과정의 목표에 따라 제시되었는지를 판단하기 위해 11종 과학 교과서의 기본 과정에 제시되어 있는 탐구 과제의 유형과 기본 탐구 기능, 통합탐구 기능, 탐구 활동의 빈도를 조사하였고, 제시된 탐구 기능과 활동이 적절한지를 분석하였다. 분석한 결과 탐구 과제는 평균 24.0개가 제시되었으나 교과서마다 차이가 있었고 제시하는 유형이 달랐다. 탐구 활동의 빈도는 교과서마다 달랐고 제시된 것보다 더 많이 분석되었으며 통합적인 활동으로 제시되지 않고 하나의 탐구 기능처럼 제시되어 있었다. 또한 교과서에 제시된 통합 탐구 기능은 $77.2\%$로 기본 탐구 기능 $22.8\%$보다 많은 것으로 보였지만, 실제로 기본 탐구기능과 통합 탐구 기능의 분포 비율은 각각 $45.6\%$$56.4\%$로 조사되었다. 각 탐구 기능 중에서는 추리$(49.5\%)$와 자료해석$(68.7\%)$이 가장 많이 있었고, 문제 인식, 가설 설정, 일반화 등의 탐구 요소는 제시되고 있지 않았다. 또한 제7차 교육 과정에서 탐구 기능, 탐구 활동에 대한 의미를 제시하고 있지 않기 때문에 교과서마다 본질적 의미와 일치하지 않거나 협소한 의미로 사용되고 있었다. 이는 교육 과정이 탐구, 탐구 기능, 탐구 활동에 대한 의미를 조작적 수준으로 제시하고, 탐구 활동을 구성하기 위한 기준을 마련한 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

컴퓨터 지원 의도적 학습환경에서 탐구과정 지원방식에 따른 집단의 탐구과정 분석 (The Analysis of Group Inquiry Process by Inquiry Process Supporting Methods in Computer Supported Intentional Learning Environments)

  • 본 연구는 탐구과정의 지원방식을 CSILE가 저차원의 기초탐구과정을 지원하는 경우, 고차원의 통합탐구과정을 지원하는 경우, 저차원과 고차원의 탐구과정을 모두 지원하는 경우의 세 가지로 구분하고, 각각의 지원방식이 학습자들의 탐구과정에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 비교, 분석하기 위하여 각 집단의 탐구과정을 모형으로 나타내었다. 집단의 탐구과정을 분석하기 위해서 Strauss와 Corbin[21]의 근거이론을 연구방법으로 하였다. 연구대상은 초등학교 6학년 아동 48명이며, 세 개의 집단에 각각 16명씩 무선 할당하였다. 대상 학습자들은 프로그램 기능 습득 후 4주 동안 탐구과정 지원방식별 CSILE에서 과학과의 지진 단원을 협력 학습하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 세 가지 환경의 탐구과정에 따른 모형을 도출할 수 있었다.

Analysis of Inquiry Activities in High School Biology Textbooks Used in China and Korea

  • Inquiry activity is a major source of student investigation which both of the national curriculum standards strongly emphasize for achieving scientific literacy. The purpose of this study was to examine inquiry activities incorporated in high school biology textbooks used in China and Korea. The inquiry activities were examined with regard to inquiry level and science process skills. Bell's and a modification of Padilla's framework were used in these analyses. Results show that the Korean textbooks were more exclusively occupied by simple inquiry activities - None of them provided activity more complex than level 2 inquiry. In addition, the Korean textbooks had uniformly basic science process skills, whereas their Chinese counterparts gave students some challenges for higher level process skills. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that the activities in the Korean textbooks are helpful in guiding students toward a gradual progression to high-level inquiry. Implications for inquiry-based science education were suggested based on the results of the study.

초등학교 교사들의 과학적 탐구 및 지도방법에 관한 신념 연구 (Elementary Teacher's Beliefs of Scientific Inquiry and Scientific Inquiry Teaching Method)

  • This study explored practicing elementary school teacher's beliefs of scientific inquiry and scientific inquiry teaching methods. Defining teacher's beliefs as a broad construct, we tried to examine the teachers' understandings about the scientific inquiry and scientific inquiry teaching method. This study drew on interview data from 10 elementary teachers in busan and changwon area of korea. Conclusions of this study include; First, we found that elementary teacher's beliefs of inquiry were represented variously. And they considered that inquiry is the important goal of science education. They though that the goal of science education is development of Scientific inquiry skills, Scientific thinking skills, development of Creativity and problem solving ability, increasing interest about science, understanding of the basic concepts of science and apply of real-life. second, most of the teachers though that Scientific inquiry is scientists activities, they defined 'the process of creation of new knowledge', 'the process of deriving theory', 'solving process of intellectual curiosity', 'Problem-solving process'. third, they considered that teaching method of scientific inquiry is open inquiry activities. however, they thought that there are many difficulties to actually apply. Understanding teachers' beliefs has implications for both the enactment of inquiry teaching in the classroom as well as the uptake of new teaching behaviors during professional development, with enhanced outcomes for engaging students in Science.

서귀포 화석층에 대한 초등학생들의 남녀간 관찰, 예상, 추리 능력 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis of Observing, Predicting and Inferring Ability between the Male and Female Groups of Elementary School Students for Seogwipo Fossil Formation)

  • As one of the casting plans to improve the scientific inquiry ability of the students, the aims of this study are to develop and apply a basic inquiry program for the inquiry subject of Seogwipo fossil formation, and analyze the basis inquiry ability of the students to show in the inquiry activity process actually. The results obtained in 5th grade 48 elementary school students of Seogwipo-city are as follows; Students executed observing activity using an appropriate senses such as senses of vision and touch, and showed the tendency which tries to observe the form overall rather than the partial form of the fossil formation. But the ability to utilize appropriately for predicting and inferring with the facts which could depend on observing activity was low. And we found out that the misconceptions influence on inquiry activity. Therefore, to help understanding deeper for the students' basic inquiry element, it is thought that a study of the various educational guidance ways is necessary to this. The teachers also have to study the various ways to induce the scientific conception through the application of proper teaching-learning for correction of misconceptions because misconceptions have an influence on inquiry activity together. If various inquiry programs considering the regional-specific characteristics are developed to cause students' interest, students would come to participate in inquiry activity aggressively a little more.

과학신문만들기 활동이 초등학생의 과학탐구능력에 미치는 영향과 글쓰기 맥락 분석 (The Effects of Making Science Newspaper Activity on the Science Inquiry Process Ability of Elementary School Students and Analysing the Writing Context)

  • The purpose of this study were to know the effects of making science newspaper activity on the science inquiry process ability of elementary school students and to analyse the writing context about their articles. The 33 sixth grader were participated in this program and they made 3 or 4 make a group, 9 groups made their own science newspaper. The results are as follow: first, there were statistically significantly differences(p<.01) on the basic science inquiry process abilities especially measurement and reasoning on making science newspaper activity. But there were no significantly differences on the integrative science inquiry process abilities; second, according to their articles on science newspaper, in personal context, they used many terms such as ecosystem, producer, consumer, decomposer, balance, but it was not personalized. And in social context, They pointed the cause and solution for the pollution and destruction in ecosystem, but it was superficial. Lastly in physical context, They used well their science concepts from class and format in newspaper in making science newspaper.

과학과의 SGIM 적용 수업이 과학적 탐구능력 및 과학에 대한 태도에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of the Science Process Skill and Scientific Attitudes by SIGM)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of small group inquiry skills on improving science process skills and attitudes toward science in elementary school science. The research questions of this study were as follows. First, effects of small group inquiry skills on improving science process skills in elementary school science. Second, effects of small group inquiry skills on improving attitudes toward science in elementary school science. The subjects of this study is two classes from 6th grade elementary classes in Busan. The experiment class practiced small group inquiry skills, while the control class practiced self inquiry. To verify the effect of the experiment, ANOVA was conducted. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the small group inquiry skills gave a significant influence on increasing the science process skills, including the basic science process skills and the integrated science process skills, of students. Especially, among subordinate factors of science process skills between groups, it was effective to increase abilities of observing, reasoning, interpreting data, formulating hypothesis. It is necessary for teachers to make an effort to teach according to steps of the small group inquiry skills and to support inquiry activities, in order to increasing the science process skills. However, frequency of additional lessons have a little influence on increasing the science process skills. Second, there is meaningful change in the attitudes toward science for those who studied the small group inquiry skills. Also, they affected subordinate factors of the attitudes toward science, like the attitudes toward science inquiry, the happiness about science class. This study shows that the small group inquiry skills give a positive influence on the science process skills and attitudes toward science in elementary school science.

우리나라 과학 교과서에 나타난 기초 탐구 과정 분석: 분류, 예상 및 추리 탐구 요소를 중심으로 (Analysis of the Basic Inquiry Process in Korean Science Textbooks: Focused on Classification, Prediction and Reasoning)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 외국 교육과정에 나타난 분류, 예상 및 추리 탐구 요소를 살펴보고, 우리나라 3학년부터 10학년까지의 과학교과서에 나타난 기초 탐구 과정 중에서 분류, 예상 및 추리가 어떻게 제시되어 있는지 알아보는 것이다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 분류에서는 전체 빈도수가 관찰이나 측정에 비해서 적었으며, 초등학교에서 많이 발견되었다. 분류의 단계는 '한 가지 특성에 의한 분류'가 대부분이고 분류의 상위 단계인 '복합 특성 특성에 따른 분류' 활동은 많이 발견되지 않았다. 예상에서는 대부분이 실험 결과를 이용한 예상 활동이었고, 예상의 단계에서 초보적 예상이 대부분으로 예상의 상위 단계인 조작적 예상은 많이 발견하지 못했다. 추리는 분류와 예상에 비해서 많은 빈도수를 나타냈으며, 학년급간 분포에서도 상위 학년에서 많은 빈도수를 나타내었다. 또한, 추리의 단계에서도 초등학교에서 중고등학교로 넘어가면서 추리의 상위단계인 이차적 추리의 빈도가 증가하였다.
