  • Expert system is a practical application part of the artificial intelligence and can be generally described as a computer-based system designed to simulate the knowledge and reasoning of a human expert, and to make that knowledge conveniently available to other people in a useful way. Expert systems consist of three major components, knowledge base, inference engine and user interface. In this paper, it is aimed to construct a prototype system to design the horizontal-typed pressure vessel. To do this, a representative artificial programming language, Turbo Prolog, was employed, and the knowledge representation was mainly done by the production rule such as "If(condition), than (action)" style and by the predicate logic. In the developed system, it was quite easy to represent the knowledge of "If(condition), then (action)"style and by the predicate logic.   • In this paper, we have implemented a ubiquitous healthcare system that can measure and check the blood pressure of human in anytime and anywhere. The implemented prototype are composed of blood pressure measurement terminal, data gathering base node, and medial information server. The implemented node constructs a sensor network using the Zigbee protocol and is ported the TinyOS. The data gathering base node is linux-based node that can transfer a sensed medial data through wireless LAN. And, the medical information server stores the processed medical data and can promptly notify the urgent status to the connected medical team. Through experiment, we confirmed the possibility of ubiquitous healthcare system based on sensor network using the Zigbee.

A Simulated Prediction for Influences of Operating Condition in an Alkaline Fuel Cell

  • The effects of the operating conditions in AFC single cells have not been studied in detail. In this study, by using a one-dimensional isothermal model a computational simulation was conducted to investigate the effects of the initial electrolyte concentration and the operating gas pressure. According to the result, the optimum electrolyte concentration at the base-case was found to be within $3.0\~3.5$ M. The variation of the cell performance according to the electrolyte concentration was found to be caused mainly by the charge transfer resistances of both electrodes, Henry's constant and the liquid phase diffusivity of the dissolved gases. It was also found that an increase in operating pressure increased the reaction rates and the solubilities of the gases, which led to a considerable enhancement of the cell performance.

  • The projectile afterbodies for zero-lift drag reduction has been analyzed using the Navier-Stokes equations with the κ-εturbidence model. The numerical method of a second order upwind scheme has been used on an unstructured adaptive grid system. Base drag reduction methods that have been found effective on axisymmetric bodies are boattailing, base bleed, base combustion, locked vortex afterbodies and multistep afterbodies. In this paper, turbulence flow and pressure charateristics have been studied for geometries of multistep afterbodies. The important geometrical and flow parameters relevant to the design of such afterbodies have been identified by step number, length and height. The flow over multistep aftoerbodies or base have many kinds of compressible flow characteristics including expansion waves at the trailing edge, recompression waves, separation and recirculating flow in the base region, shear flow and wake flow. The numerical results have been compared and analyzed with the experimental data. The flow characteristics have been clearly shown.

  • Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) is applied to an axisymmetric base flow at supersonic mainstream. DES is a hybrid approach to modeling turbulence that combines the best features of the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes RANS) and large-eddy simulation (LES) approaches. In the Reynolds-averaged mode, the model is currently based on either the Spalart-Allmaras (S-A) turbulence model. In the large eddy simulation mode, it is based on the Smagorinski subgrid scale model. Accurate predictions of the base flowfield and base pressure are successfully achieved by using the DES methodology with less computational cost than that of pure LES and monotone integrated large-eddy simulation (MILES) approaches. The DES accurately resolves the physics of unsteady turbulent motions, such as shear layer rollup, large-eddy motions in the downstream region, small-eddy motions inside the recirculating region. Comparison of the results shows that it is necessary to resolve approaching boundary layers and free shear-layer velocity profiles from the base edge correctly for the accurate prediction of base flows. The consideration of an empirical constant CDES for a compressible flow analysis may suggest that the optimal value of empirical constant CDES may be larger in the flows with strong compressibility than in incompressible flows.

  • Attempts were made to fix acetaldehyde on base materials, which were selected from carbohydrates, by freeze drying. More acetaldehyde was fixed, in general, on combined base materials than single base materials, and mannitol+lactose were the best among the combined base materials tested. But the combination of mannitol and maltodextrin appeared to be more economical for the mass production. Loss of acetaldehyde during freeze drying was decreased as the concentration of the combined base material was increased, and it reached minimum at 40% of the base material. As dryer chamber pressure was reduced, loss of acetaldehyde during drying was decreased.

  • The effect of sintering condition on tribological behavior in the Cu-base sintered friction materials was studied through pin-on-disk type wear tester. Especially, the experiment was focused on making a comparative study between presstwed sintering and pressureless sintering. Pressureless sintering process showes more stable friction coefficient and lower wear rate than pressure sintering process. This result is related to pore size and density of pore in the sintered materials.

  • Various substituted benzal chlorides are converted into alkyl phenylacetates ($ArCH_2COOR$) under CO atmosphere on reaction with a catalytic amount of Fe(CO)$_5$, a base, and an alcohol. The optimum conditions are found as atmospheric pressure of CO, 40$^{\circ}C$, potassium hydroxide as base, and medium of alcohol.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to develop a cupping pressure control valve for limiting maximum negative pressure while achieving clinical therapeutic outcomes to minimize side effects induced by excessive negative pressure of air extraction cupping devices. Methods : To determine the clinical necessity and suitability of the cupping pressure control valve, this study was designed to measure the change in pressure with or without the valve using both a manual and an electric suction pump. Results : While the maximum pressure was limited by the pressure control valve, the pressure did not increase above a certain level regardless of the type of manual or electric pump. Conclusions : This study will contribute to the development of a safer and more effective base technology for cupping treatment in oriental medicine.
