  • The cavitating flow simulation is of practical importance for many engineering systems, such as marine propellers, pump impellers, nozzles, injectors, torpedoes, etc. The present work has developed a base code for simulating cavitating flows past cylinders and hydrofoils. The governing equation is the Navier-Stokes equation based on homogeneous mixture model. The momentum and energy equation is in the mixture phase while the continuity equation is solved in liquid and vapor phase, separately. The solver employs an implicit preconditioning algorithm in curvilinear coordinates. The computations have been carried out for the cylinders with spherical, 1- and 0-caliber forebody and hydrofoil of ALE and NACA cross-section and, then, compared with experiments and other numerical results. Fairly good agreements with experiments and numerical results have been achieved. The present base code has shown the feasibility to solve the cavitating flow past supercavitating torpedo after the improvement for compressibility effects and interactions with hot exhaust gas of propulsive rocket.

  • CCN(Content-Centric Network) enables users to retrieve content using the content's name. Researchers face critical challenges in terms of mobility. Since the routing information is part of the content name, when the provider moves, it is necessary to update all the routers routing information. However, this requires significant costs. In this paper, we propose PNPCCN(Proactive Neighbor Pushing CCN), considering the popularity and rarity of mobility support, for providers in CCN environments. Via simulation studies, we demonstrate that our solutions are effective in terms of shorter numbers of retransmitted Interest packets, and average download times and higher delivery ratios during mobility.

  • The tracking accuracy of buoy-based LBL(Long Base Line) systems can be significantly influenced by sea environmental conditions. Particularly, the position of buoys that may have drifted due to sea currents. Therefore it is necessary to predict and optimize the drifted-buoy positions in the deploying step. This research introduces a free-drift simulation model using ocean data from the European CMEMS. The simulation model's predictions are validated by comparing them to actual sea buoy drift tracks, showing a substantial match in averaged drift speed and direction. Using this drift model, we optimize the initial buoy layout and compare the tracking performance between the center hexagonal layout and close track layout. Our results verify that the optimized layout achieves lower tracking errors compared to the other two layout.

  • This study investigated the effect of bonding temperature and holding time on microstructures and mechanical properties of diffusion bonded joint of Haynes230. The diffusion bonds were performed at the temperature of 950, 1050, and $1150^{\circ}C$ for holding times of 30, 60, 120 and 240 minutes at a pressure of 4MPa under high vacuum condition. The amount of non-bonded area and void observed in the bonded interface decreased with increasing bonding temperature and holding time. Cr-rich precipitates at the linear interface region restrained grain migration at $950^{\circ}C$ and $1050^{\circ}C$. However, the grain migration was observed in spite of short holding time due to the dissolution of precipitates to base metal in the interface region at $1150^{\circ}C$. Three types of the fracture surface were observed after tensile test. The region where the coalesce and migration of grain occurred much showed high fracture load because of base metal fracture whereas the region where those did less due to the precipitates demonstrated low fracture load because of interface fracture. The expected fracture load could be derived with the value of fracture area of base metal ($A_{BF}$) and interface ($A_{IF}$), $Load=201A_{BF}+153A_{IF}$. Based on this equation, strength of base metal and interface fracture were calculated as 201MPa and 153MPa, respectively.

  • Most of countries in the world are stepping up military conversion to achieve military modernization. The issues of military conversion hold reallocation of financial resources, reorientation of R&D, restructuring of military industry, demobilization, base closure and relocation, scrapping of surplus weapons and so on. Also ROK is stepping up military modernization through defense reform. In particular, ROK has the plan to convert bases; transfering U.S. Forces in Korea and conducting the merger and abolition of bases. In this respect, we expect increase of base conversion easily in the future. Therefore, we tried to find the strategy of base conversion that ROK can conduct base conversion with success in this study. So that we analyze cases of base conversion which were conducted in ROK and U.S. Moreover, we extract problems of the process of base conversion in ROK and finally find out substitutes.

  • Extreme learning machine (ELM) is emerging as a powerful machine learning method in a variety of application scenarios due to its promising advantages of high accuracy, fast learning speed and easy of implementation. However, how to select the optimal hidden layer of ELM is still an open question in the ELM community. Basically, the number of hidden layer nodes is a sensitive hyperparameter that significantly affects the performance of ELM. To address this challenging problem, we propose to adopt multiple kernel learning (MKL) to design a multi-hidden-layer-kernel ELM (MHLK-ELM). Specifically, we first integrate kernel functions with random feature mapping of ELM to design a hidden-layer-kernel ELM (HLK-ELM), which serves as the base of MHLK-ELM. Then, we utilize the MKL method to propose two versions of MHLK-ELMs, called sparse and non-sparse MHLK-ELMs. Both two types of MHLK-ELMs can effectively find out the optimal linear combination of multiple HLK-ELMs for different classification and regression problems. Experimental results on seven data sets, among which three data sets are relevant to classification and four ones are relevant to regression, demonstrate that the proposed MHLK-ELM achieves superior performance compared with conventional ELM and basic HLK-ELM.

  • In the case of military supplies, any potential failure and causes of failures must be considered. This study is aimed at examining the failure modes of a rotorcraft landing system to identify the priority items. Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is applied to the rotorcraft landing system. In general, the FMEA is used to evaluate the reliability in engineering fields. Three elements, specifically, the severity, occurrence, and detectability are used to evaluate the failure modes. The risk priority number (RPN) can be obtained by multiplying the scores or the risk levels pertaining to severity, occurrence, and detectability. In this study, different weights of the three elements are considered for the RPN assessment to implement the FMEA. Furthermore, the FMEA is implemented using a fuzzy rule base, similarity aggregation model (SAM), and grey theory model (GTM) to perform a comparative analysis. The same input data are used for all models to enable a fair comparison. The FMEA is applied to military supplies by considering methodological issues. In general, the fuzzy theory is based on a hypothesis regarding the likelihood of the conversion of the crisp value to the fuzzy input. Fuzzy FMEA is the basic method to obtain the fuzzy RPN. The three elements of the FMEA are used as five linguistic terms. The membership functions as triangular fuzzy sets are the simplest models defined by the three elements. In addition, a fuzzy set is described using a membership function mapping the elements to the intervals 0 and 1. The fuzzy rule base is designed to identify the failure modes according to the expert knowledge. The IF-THEN criterion of the fuzzy rule base is formulated to convert a fuzzy input into a fuzzy output. The total number of rules is 125 in the fuzzy rule base. The SAM expresses the judgment corresponding to the individual experiences of the experts performing FMEA as weights. Implementing the SAM is of significance when operating fuzzy sets regarding the expert opinion and can confirm the concurrence of expert opinion. The GTM can perform defuzzification to obtain a crisp value from a fuzzy membership function and determine the priorities by considering the degree of relation and the form of a matrix and weights for the severity, occurrence, and detectability. The proposed models prioritize the failure modes of the rotorcraft landing system. The conventional FMEA and fuzzy rule base can set the same priorities. SAM and GTM can set different priorities with objectivity through weight setting.

  • It is generally recommended to use EVM as an efficient means for measuring project performance and progress so that the EVMS user could manage his project successfully. In spite of it's favorable intention, most project participants think it as a heavy load or a sub practiced job with low responsibility. Even though there are lots of variables triggering unpredictable troubles in EVM application, EVM still could be a valuable project health indicator. In this paper we introduce a performing method for EVM based on system engineering process.
