A study on the Vibration Damping of a gun barrel using Dynamically Tuned Shroud (차열관을 이용한 포신의 진동 감쇠에 대한 연구)

  • Current tanks have been developed to increase mobility and firepower, and its maximum range and destructive power are improved. This great change causes remained vibration of a gun barrel after firing. For this reason, people are trying to control vibration of gun barrel effectively. This thesis presents a modeling method and analysis results for gun barrel by using a thermal shroud as an absorber mass. DTS(Dynamically Tuned Shroud) is a vibration damping system using a thermal shroud as an added mass for decreasing remained vibration. The model has an advantage that the gun barrel's vibration can be decreased by dissipating a kinetic energy of thermal shroud without install an additional dynamic absorber to tip of the gun barrel. For analyzing the damping performance of the DTS, We derived an equation of motion of the barrel after setting a mathematical modeling, and found out the frequency analysis and tendency according to stiffness ratio between barrel and shroud.

  • A barrel is a high length-to-diameter ratio cylinder that is influenced by environmental factors such as sunlight, precipitation, wind and clouds. Cross-barrel temperature differences caused by uneven heating or cooling lead to thermal deformation that degrades accuracy. Therefore, a barrel is covered by thermal shrouds to minimize the type of thermal deformation, "fall-of-shot". In this paper, an analytical and experimental study is presented to design the thermal shrouds for a gun barrel and to evaluate the thermal shroud effect. First, an analytical study on the thermal shroud effect to minimize thermal deformation of a gun barrel by sunlight and wind is performed. The coupled analysis of thermal fluid dynamics of the air flow between a barrel and thermal shrouds and thermal stresses of a barrel Is performed to clarify both the thermal shroud effect and the drift in gun muzzle orientation by thermal deformation. Second, experiments are carried out to test and evaluate the thermal shroud effect on the performance of a gun barrel. The drift in gun muzzle orientation against the solar radiation is confirmed by the experiments, and the results well agree with the analytical estimation. Third, three principal design factors that are presumed to have an effect on the performance of the thermal shrouds are also analyzed; sorts of shroud materials, wall-thickness of thermal shrouds, and distance of the gap between a barrel and thermal shrouds.

  • In chip plating, several parameters must be taken into consideration. Current density, solution concentration, pH, solution temperature, components volume, chip and media ratio, barrel geometrical shape were most likely found to have an effect to the process yields. The 3 types of barrels utilized in chip plating industry are the onventional rotating barrel, vibrational barrel(vibarrel), and the centrifugal type. Conventional rotating barrel is a close type and is commonly used. The components inside the barrel are circulated by the barrel's rotation at a horizontal axis. Process yield has known to have higher thickness deviation. The vibrational barrel is an open type which offers a wide exposure to electrolyte resulting to a stable thickness deviation. It rotates in a vertical axis coupled with multi-vibration action to facilitate mixed up and easy transportation of components. The centrifugal barrel has its plated work centrifugally compacted against the cathode ring for superior electrical contact with simultaneous rotary motion. This experiment has determined the effect of barrel vibration intensity to the plating thickness distribution. The procedures carried out in the experiment involved the overall plating process., cleaning, rinse, Nickel plating, Tin-Lead plating. Plating time was adjusted to meet the required specification. All other parameters were maintained constant. Two trials were performed to confirm the consistency of the result. The thickness data of the experiment conducted showed thatbthe average mean value obtained from higher vibrational intensity is nearer to the standard mean. The distribution curve shown has a narrower specification limits and it has a reduced variation around the target value. Generally, intensity control in vi-barrel facilitates mixed up and easy transportation of components. However, it is desirable to maintain an optimum vibration intensity to prevent solution intrusion into the chips' internal electrode. A cathodic reaction can occur in the interface of the external and internal electrode. 2H20 + e $\rightarrow$M/TEX> 20H + H2.. Hydrogen can penetrate into the body and create pressure which can cause cracks. At high intensity, the chip's motion becomes stronger, its contact between each other is delayed and so plating action is being controlled. Each portion was loaded to the same barrel one after the other. Nickel plating and tin-lead plating was performed in the same station. Portion A maintained the normal barrel vibration intensity and portion B vibration intensity was increased two steps higher. All other parameters, current, solution condition were maintained constant. Generally, plating method find procedures were carried out in a best way to maintained the best plating condition. After plating, samples were taken out from each portion. molded and polished. Plating thickness was investigated for both. To check consistency of results. 2nd trial was done now using different lot of another characteristics.

  • The new rheology fabrication process has been developed to rheo die casting and rheo forming process. Thixoforming process has disadvantages in terms of induction reheating process, scrap recycling, loss of raw material and cycle time. Therefore, to reduce the number of process, new rheology fabrication process with specially designed the rotational barrel type equipment has been proposed to apply in various part productions. The barrel type equipment, which could continuously fabricate the rheology materil, was specially designed to have a function to control cooling rate, shear rate and temperature. During the continuous rotation of barrel with a constant temperature, the shear rate is controlled with the rotation speed. The barrel surface has both the induction heating system and the cooling system to control the temperature of molten metal. By using this system, the effect of the rotation speed and the rotation time on the microstructure was widely examined. The possibility for the rheoforming process was investigated with microstructural characteristic.

Effect of Magnetic Strength of Three-dimensionally Arranged Magnetic Barrel Machine on Polishing Characteristics

  • Commercially available magnetic barrel machines equipped with permanent magnets have certain limitations: work can only be finished effectively in limited areas of the container because permanent magnets are arranged two-dimensionally on the magnet disk. We overcame this problem by developing a new magnetic barrel machine equipped with a three-dimensional magnet arrangement. The effectiveness of the new machine has already been reported; this study improved the machine's polishing ability by changing the polarity of magnets on a magnet block. Polishing experiments confirmed the most effective arrangement of magnets on the magnet block. An alternating arrangement of north and south poles produced far superior polishing characteristics than a uniform arrangement of the same pole facing outward. Alternating polarity probably causes increased quantities of barrel media to work together. Finally, we introduced stronger permanent magnets to the magnet block, and found that the increased magnetic field also improved polishing ability.

A Study on Design of Barrel Cam for Automatic Bulb Production Machine (전구 자동화 생산기계용 바렐 캠의 형상설계에 관한 연구)

  • A barrel cam is used as a very important part of an index drive unit. The index drive unit must have an intermittent-rotational motion. The barrel typed cam and roller gear mechanism has the advantages of high reliability to perform a prescribed motion of a follower. This paper proposes a new method for the shape design of the barrel cam and also a CAD program is developed by using the proposed method. As defined in this paper, the relative velocity method for the shape design calculates the relative velocity of the follower versus cam at a center of roller, and then detemines a contact point by using the geometric relationships and the kinematic constraints, where the direction of the relative velocity must be parallel to a common tangential line at the contact point of two independent bodies, i.e. the cam and the follower. Then, the shape of the cam is defined by the coordinate transformation of the trace of the contact points. This paper presents shape design of the barrel cam in order to prove the accuracy of the proposed methods

  • This paper deals with the method of vibration measurement of a gun barrel structure using mechanical filter. When a bullet with high speed is moving within a gun barrel type structure with low bending vibration frequencies, it is difficult to measure the bending vibration signals of the structure. For example, noncontact type sensors such as displacement or velocity sensor are not appropriate for the measurement of vibrational signals because of the movement effect of the equipment frame through the moving structures or effect of the ground vibration. One of contact type sensors such as accelerometer is profitable for measurement of vibrational signals because of its wide measurement ranges. In the case of a gun barrel structure including high vibrational signals like shock waves, however, it is necessary to propose vibration measurement method filtering high frequencies. The purpose of the paper is to propose the proper vibrational measurement technique filtering high frequencies of a gun barrel type structure.

  • The rotational barrel type equipment has been designed for the new rheology fabrication process. During the continuous rotation of barrel with a constant temperature, the shear rate is controlled with the rotation speed and rotation time of barrel. The barrel surface can be controlled the temperature by the induction heating and cooling system. Many experiments were widely examined by using this system with controlling the rotation speed and the rotation time. The possibility for the rheoforming process was investigated with microstructural characteristics.

  • This research concerns the characteristics of tank barrel inner flow according to the barrel length and the pressure of ammunition when fired. By analyzing the flow characteristics of the bore evacuator according to barrel length and ammunition pressure regarding ammunition design, it is possible to prevent the flareback phenomenon that may occur during ammunition operation. Through bore evacuator flow analysis by barrel length and ammunition pressure, we identified key design factors concerning barrel and ammunition compatibility including speed, accuracy, penetration performance and range. Test results found if barrel length is long and ammunition pressure is low, bore evacuator operation time is slow. Therefore, there is a high probability that propellant gas will enter the battle vehicle. Therefore, the correlation analysis method of bore evacuator flow characteristics based on barrel length and ammunition pressure is considered as a primary method to improve operational performance. When designing new ammunition, the correlation analysis method will be used to determine ammunition weight and select the propellant pressure.
