Optimum Field Balancing of Ratating Machinery Using Genetic Algorithm (유전 알고리즘을 이용한 회전기계의 최적 현장평형잡이)

  • This paper present the claculating method of optimum correction mass within permissible vibration linits for ratating machinery in two-plane field balancing. Basic technique of this method is based on influence coefficient method, and grphic vector composition that the resultant of two influence vectors obtained by trial mass have to be equilibrium with initial vibration vector in the each correction plane. Genetic algorithm which is a search algorithm based on the mechanism of natural selection and natural genetics is sued for vector composition, and SUMT method is used to objective function which seeks optimum correction mass for balancing a rotor.

  • Quadruped walking robot requires dynamic control to keep its stability in high speed walking. To keep its walking stability by control of only legs' Joint angle lowers energy efficiency. It is known that an animal or a human use the moving of the mass center of one's upper body to keep the stability. We have developed a quadruped walking robot with weight balancing oscillator that have high energy efficiency. In this study, walking tests are performed for the robot to verify the validity of the weight balancing oscillator.

Simulation Analysis for Configuring Web Clusters (웹 클러스터 구성을 위한 시뮬레이션 분석)

  • High-volume web sites often use clusters of servers with load balancing as a way to increase the performance, scalability, and availability of the sites. Load balancing, usually performed by load balancer in front of such clusters, is a technique to spread workload between several computers or resources, in order to get optimal resource utilization or response time. In this paper we examine the performance for several configurations of cluster-based web servers using a simulation approach. We investigate two types of buffering scheme (common and local) for web clusters and three load balancing policies (uniformly random, round robin, and least queue first), using response time as a performance measure. We also examine two basic approaches of scaling web clusters: adding more servers of same type or upgrading the capacity of the servers in the clusters.

Analysis on Heat Supply Piping Network for Apartment House (아파트의 온수공급배관망해석)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the characteristics of flow rate distribution in hot-water piping networks in the apartment building. A 14-story apartment house was selected as a sample building and analyzed numerically by Hardy-Cross method. Two different piping networks, one has three vertical zones and the other of a single zone with automatic balancing valves, were compared. Some of research results are as follows; As the temperature of supply hot-water increases, the flow rate of it does by buoyancy effect, but this effect is not found in the piping network with automatic balancing valves. Non-uniformity in hot-water flow distributions to all stories in the piping system of single vertical zone can be completely reformed by the installation of either manually operated or automatic balancing valves in every story.

  • Line Balancing is the problem to assign tasks to stations while satisfying some managerial viewpoints. Most researches about the Mixed-Model Line Balancing problems are focused on the minimizing the total processing time or the number of workstations. Independently, some research reports consider the balance issues of the physical workloads on the assembly line. In this paper, we are presenting a new mathematical model to accomplish the line balance considering both the processing time and the workloads at the same time. To this, end, we propose an zero-one integer program problem, and we use the Chebyshev Goal Programming approach as the solution method. Some computational test runs are performed to compare the pay-offs between the processing time and the workloads. And, the test results show us that the reliable balanced work schedules can be obtained through the proposed model.

A Hybrid Genetic Algorithm for Scheduling of the Panel Block Assembly Shop in Shipbuilding (선각 평블록 조립공장 일정계획을 위한 혼합 유전 알고리즘)

  • This paper describes a scheduling problem of the panel block assembly shop in a shipbuilding industry. Because the shipbuilding is a labor intensive industry the most important consideration in a panel block assembly shop is the workload balancing. which balances man-hour weight and welding length and so on. It should be determined assembly schedule and workstation considering a daily load balancing and a workstation load balancing simultaneously. To solve the problem we develop a hybrid genetic algorithm. Hybrid genetic algorithm proposed in this paper consists of two phases. The first phase uses the heuristic method to find a initial feasible solution which provides a useful information about optimal solution. The second phase proposes the genetic algorithm to derive the optimal solution with the initial population consisting of feasible solutions based on the initial solution. Finally we carried out computational experiments for this load balancing problem which indicate that developed method is effective for finding good solutions.

  • Increasing traffic and bandwidth requirements bring challenges to the next generation wireless networks (5G). As one of the main technology in 5G networks, Ultra-Dense Network (UDN) can be used to improve network coverage. In this paper, a radio over fiber based model is proposed to solve the load balancing problem in ultra-dense network. Stochastic differential game is introduced for the load balancing algorithm, and optimal load allocated to each access point (RAP) are formulated as Nash Equilibrium. It is proved that the optimal load can be achieved and the stochastic differential game based scheme is applicable and acceptable. Numerical results are given to prove the effectiveness of the optimal algorithm.

  • This paper introduces several mobile robots developed by using LEGO MIDSTORM for experimental studies of robotics engineering education. The first mobile robot is the line tracer robot that tracks a line, which is a prototype of wheel-driven mobile robots. Ultra violet sensors are used to detect and follow the line. The second robot system is a two-wheel balancing robot that is somewhat nonlinear and complex. For the robot to balance, a gyro sensor is used to detect a balancing angle and PD control is used. The last robot system is a combined system of a line tracer and a two-wheel balancing robot. Sensor filtering and control algorithms are tested through experimental studies.

  • In this paper, we report a self-balancing robot wheelchair which has the capability of keeping upright posture regardless of the terrain inclination in terms of the three dimensional balancing motion. It has the mobility of five degrees of freedom, where pitching, yawing, and forward motions are generated by the two-wheeled inverted pendulum mechanism and the rolling and vertical motions are implemented by the movement of the tilting mechanism. Several design considerations are suggested for the sliding type vehicle body, wheel actuator module, tilting actuator module, power and control system, and the riding module.

A Policy on Efficient Load-Balancing Using Contents-Based Game Servers

  • This paper proposes a policy on efficient load balancing that can reduce the network game server load burdened by surging number of users. The study adopted a contents-based clustering technique. Recently, skyrocketing number of clients in on-line games causes overloads on specific game servers, and the consequent server-instability brings the worst situation: a server failure. To cope with this problem, one can install more high-powered servers or be equipped with back-up servers, which is often inefficient in terms of cost performance. To solve this problem, the present study examined the technology enhancing the performance and efficiency of game servers by reducing the loads of specific game servers. In doing this, this study used the clustering technology to compose game servers classified by their contents and carried out appropriate load balancing to numerous clients with load balancers in each region.
