  • In order to develope useful components and to apply in food additives, various components in the leaves of baechohyang were determined according to picking date. Moisture and ash were reached to 74~82%, 1.5~3.4%, respectively, and major sugars were fructose, glucose, sucrose, and maltose. Glutamic, aspartic acid, and leucine constituted the main component amino acids and their contents were relatively higher in the samples of summer and young leaves. Among free amino acids, histidine showed the highest components and methionine were the lowest. Potassium, calcium, and sodium were main mineral components. The content of ascorbic acid were 6.6~9.2mg% and seasonal variations were negligible. Muture leaves contained more polyphenols as much as 108~181mg% and the amount of bound fractions were much more. Periodic evaluation of phenolic compounds were made and major components of bound fractions were caffeic, syringic, and ferulic acid.

  • The scope of the research is investigation of immune-modulating activities of A. rugosa (Baechohyang) extract was preformed through the screening active constituents using in vitro assays and evaluating anti-inflammatory activity and anti-atherosclerotic activity of the extract and active compound (tilianin) in vivo. In addition, various functional foods using the extract and whole plant was developed. The extract showed strong anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan-induced acute edema mouse model and anti-atherogenic lesion activity in LDLR (low density lipoprotein receptor) deficient mouse model. These activities were thought to be resulted from modulation activity of several pathways of inflammation process. Among the main constituents of Baechohyang, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), Phytosterols, oleanolic acid and rosmarinic acid showed anticomplement activity, and PUFA, acacetin and tilianin newly showed potent ICAM-1 expression inhibition activity. The processes of extraction, mixing ratio of additives and storage conditions were established for drinks, granule tea, leaf tea, mixed tea and furigake.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to determine the original source of Gwackhyang(藿香) newly. Methods : Compare the growing district, figure and etc. of Gwackhyang included in the books on herbal medicine with those of present. Results : 1. The growing district of Gwackhyang is south of China or southern place than China. 2. In the picture of the leaf of Gwackhyang, its end is round and it is similar to Mori folium or the leaf of Solanum melongena. 3. We can propagate it by planting a piece of stem. 4. At the Dynasty of the Sejong king, japan sent it 18 times for diplomacy present, and according to Sejongsillockzirizi(世宗實錄地理志), it was planted for the test one time. 5. Baechohyang, another name of Gwackhyang, is rhizome and root of Anisochilus carnosus according to Bonchogangmok(本草綱目). Conclusion : Provide a basis for these results, Gwackhyang in the books on herbal medicine means Pogostemon cablin. It is a mistake to use Agastache rugosa in GwackhyangJeonggisan(震香正氣散) etc. in Korea.

  • This study selected 9 species of domestic native plants (Baechohyang, Red Pine, Turmeric, Ginger, San parsley seed, Bulsugam, Hwangchil, Tangja, Valerian) that have been proven effective for depression, and based on the analysis results of each fragrance component, 9 species were selected. Antioxidant (DPPH, ABTS), cytotoxicity (MTS), and anti-inflammatory (Nitric oxide) experiments were performed by combining essential oils. As a result of the analysis of fragrance components, DL-Limonene (38.44%), g-Terpinene (8.9%), Estragole (5.18%), and a-Pinene (1.73%), which were previously studied in combination oil, were identified. DPPH radical scavenging ability, which is an antioxidant activity, showed 75.4%, ABTS radical scavenging ability was 74.04%, and NO production inhibition was 33.14% at a concentration of 5uL/ml with no cytotoxicity confirmed. Through this, the effect of domestic blending essential oils on the improvement or prevention of depression is verified, and scientific efficacy and ingredient studies are conducted in a mutually cooperative manner to seek solutions to depression and provide basic data to confirm whether or not depressive symptoms are improved. want to do.
