  • This paper proposes a robust controller for flexible joint robots to achieve tracking performance and to improve robustness against both matched and mismatched disturbances. The proposed controller consists of a disturbance observer(DOB), passivity-based controller, and integral sliding mode controller(ISMC) in a backstepping manner. The DOB compensates the mismatched disturbance in the link-side and formulates the reference input for the motor-side controller. Interconnection and damping assignment passivity-based controller (IDA-PBC) performs tracking control of motor-side, and it is integrated to nominal control of ISMC to guarantee the over-all stability of the nominal system, while, matched disturbances are decoupled by the discontinuous control of ISMC. In the design of the link-side controller, PD type impedance controller is designed with DOB and this leads the continuous control input which is suitable to the reference input for the motor-side.

  • Based on the state-feedback adaptive neuro-control algorithm for a SISO nonaffine pure-feedback nonlinear system proposed in [15], an output-feedback controller is proposed in this paper. The output-feedback adaptive neural-net controller for the considered nonlinear system has not been previously proposed in any other literatures yet. The proposed output-feedback controller inherits all the advantages of [15] such that it does not adopt backstepping and this results in relatively simple control and adapting laws. Only one neural network is required for the proposed adaptive controller. The proposed neural-net control scheme expands the applicable class of nonlinear systems.

  • This paper presents the adaptive robust control method for the flight control systems with model uncertainties. The proposed control system can be composed simply by a combination of the adaptive dynamic surface control (DSC) technique and the self recurrent wavelet neural network (SRWNN). The adaptive DSC technique provides us with the ability to overcome the 'explosion of complexity' problem of the backstepping controller. The SRWNNs are used to observe the arbitrary model uncertainties of flight systems, and all their weights are trained on-line. From the Lyapunov stability analysis, their adaptation laws are induced and the uniformly ultimately boundedness of all signals in a closed-loop adaptive system is proved. Finally, simulation results for a high performance aircraft (F-16) are utilized to validate the good tracking performance and robustness of the proposed control system.

  • This paper addresses the issue of position control of a chain of multiple mass-spring-damper (CMMSD) units which can be found in many physical systems. The dynamic model of a CMMSD system with any degrees of freedom is expressed in a closed-form for the convenience of the controller design. Backstepping and model reference adaptive control (MRAC) approaches are then used to develop two adaptive output feedback controllers to control the position of a CMMSD system. The proposed controllers rely on the measurements of the input (force) and the output (position of the mass unit at the end of the chain) of the system without the knowledge of its parameters and internal states. Simulations are used to verify the effectiveness of the controllers

  • In this paper, a robust adaptive backstepping control is developed for efficiency optimization of induction motors with uncertainties. The proposed control scheme consists of efficiency flux control(EFC) using a sliding mode adaptive flux observer and robust speed control(RSC) using a function approximation for mechanical uncertainties. In EFC, it is important to find the flux reference to minimize power losses of induction motors. Therefore, we proposed the optimal flux reference using the electrical power loss function. The sliding mode flux observer is designed to estimate rotor fluxes and variation of inverse rotor time constant. In RSC, the unknown function approximation technique employs nonlinear disturbance observer(NDO) using fuzzy neural networks(FNNs). The proposed controller guarantees both speed tracking and flux tracking. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the approaches proposed.

  • To ensure stable performance, adaptive regulators with new theories are designed for steel-covered offshore platforms to withstand anomalous wave loads. This model shows how to control the vibration of the ocean panel as a solution using new results from Lyapunov's stability criteria, an evolutionary bat algorithm that simplifies computational complexity and utilities. Used to reduce the storage space required for the method. The results show that the proposed operator can effectively compensate for random delays. The results show that the proposed controller can effectively compensate for delays and random anomalies. The improved prediction method means that the vibration of the offshore structure can be significantly reduced. While maintaining the required controllability within the ideal narrow range.

  • Accidents caused by upset condition leads to fatal damage to both manned and unmanned aircraft. This paper deals with real-time detection of these aircraft upset situations to prevent further severe situations. Firstly, the difference between sensor measurement and predicted measurement from Extended Kalman filter is monitored to determine whether a target aircraft goes into an upset condition or not. In addition, repeating the time update stage of the Extended Kalman filter for a specific length of time can enable future upset situation prediction. The results of aforementioned both the approaches will build a bridge to upset prevention for future generation of manned/unmanned aircraft.
