GROWTH AND CHARACTERIZATION OF $La_3Ga_5SiO_{14}$ SINGLE CRYSTALS BY THE FLOATING ZONE METHOD

  • The development of telecommunication and information technology requires to develop new piezoelectric materials with small size, low impedance, wide pass band width and high thermal stability of frequency. Langasite (La3Ga5SiO14) single crystal has been researched substitute of quartz and LiNbO3 for the applications of SAW filter, BAW filter and resonator. Its single crystal growth has been carried out by Czochralski Method. So, in order to get single crystal with higher quality, in this study, lnagasite (La3Ga5SiO14) single crystal was grown by using Floating Zone (FZ) method and characterized. For the growth of langasite single crystals, the langasite powder was synthesized at 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 5hrs and the feed rod was sintered at 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 5hrs. The growing rate was 1.5mm/h and the rotation speed was 15 rpm for an upper rotation and 13 rpm for a lower rotation. In order to prevent the evaporation of gallium oxide, Ar and O2 gas mixture was flowed. The growth direction was analyzed by Laue back-scattered analysis. The composition of grown crystal was analyzed suing XRD and WDS. The electrical properties of grown crystal at various frequencies and temperature were discussed.

  • This paper presents a method in order to calculate the vortex distribution, the streak-line and the time-line around the flat and the cambered otter board in two dimensional flow using the discrete vortex method, and to calculate C sub(L) and C sub(D) of the otter boards varied with the passage of time by the numerical simulation using the Blasu's formula. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Flow pattern around the otter boards calculated by the discrete vortex method was resembled closely that of the visualized photograph. 2. C sub(L) and C sub(D) calculated by the numerical simulation was very similar to the model test. 3. The circulation direction around the otter boards and the action direction of the shearing force can be recognized from the time-line around the otter boards. 4. Flow speed in the back side of the otter boards was faster than that in the front side, and the difference of the flow speed in both side of the cambered otter boards was about 1.3 times greater than that of the flat otter boards. 5. The clockwise vortex was generated in the trailing edge, and the counter-clockwise vortex was generated the leading edge of the otter boards. And they were shown the shape of Karman's vortex varied with the passage of time.

  • In recent years, there has been a considerable interest in the application of super plastic forming in the aircraft and automotive industries. This requires a detailed design of the technological process in order to exploit its peculiar potentialities better. Nowadays, the finite element method is used to plan the sheet metal forming processes whose simulation requires determination of material constants for super plastic materials. The present work is aimed to show a simple method to characterize super plastic materials duplex stainless steel which was formed by a constant gaspressure to hemispheres with and without back pressure. The forming operation was performed using an in-house designed and built biaxial forming apparatus. The temporal change of dome heights of hemispheres were measured for applying the pressures. The flow stresses and strain rates developed at the top of the dome during the forming step were shown to follow closely the flow stress - strain rate relationship obtained from the strain rate change tests performed at the same temperature.

  • This paper proposes on the technical blocking method of Internet harmful pornographic sites which is the most Internet negative-function. At Present, most technical methods based on web sites back-searching or words filtering for blocking the pornographic Internet sites have limitations. For this, this paper proposes the acoustic and image based blocking method for filtering harmful Internet sites. For this, sexual main body parts are extracted by texture analysis and curve fitting. Also acoustic signals are analyzed using pratt tool and auto-correlation function is adopted for matching between prototype signals and test signals. Finally, the effectiveness of this paper is demostrated by several experiments.

Effects of Drying Temperature on the Optical Properties of Solution Derived (Pb, La)$TiO_3$ Thin Films

  • Using sol-gel processing method, thin films of lathanum modified lead titanate(PLT) on Corning 7059 glass were prepared. A differential thermal analysis (DTA/TG) curve of gel powder and infrared spectra (FT-IR) of the films were measured to estimate residual organices in them. The heat-treated films were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD). Microstructures of the films were observed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Optical properties of the films were determined by a UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The waveguiding properties and optical attenuation were measured with the end coupling method and the cut back method. Effects of the drying conditions on the transmittance and the propagation loss of the films were investigated. Experimemtal results showed that the content of residual organics in the film decreased as the drying temperature of the film increased. As the La content of the film increased, the grain size decreased and the transmittance increased. The transmittances of the films increased with the increasing of the drying temperature. The propagation losses in the film decreased as the drying temperature increased.

Comparison of Reliability Estimation Methods for Ammunition Systems with Quantal-response Data (가부반응 데이터 특성을 가지는 탄약 체계의 신뢰도 추정방법 비교)

  • This paper shows accuracy comparison results of reliability estimation methods for one-shot systems such as ammunitions. Quantal-response data, following a binomial distribution at each sampling time, characterizes lifetimes of one-shot systems. Various quantal-response data of different sample sizes are simulated using lifetime data randomly sampled from assumed weibull distributions with different shape parameters but the identical scale parameter in this paper. Then, reliability estimation methods in open literature are applied to the simulated quantal-response data to estimate true reliability over time. Rankings in estimation accuracy for different sample sizes are determined using t-test of SSE. Furthermore, MSE at each time, including both bias and variance of estimated reliability metrics for each method are analyzed to investigate how much both bias and variance contribute the SSE. From the MSE analysis, MSE provides reliability estimation trend for each method. Parametric estimation method provides more accurate reliability estimation results than the other methods for most of sample sizes.

Multi-stage structural damage diagnosis method based on "energy-damage" theory

  • Locating and assessing the severity of damage in large or complex structures is one of the most challenging problems in the field of civil engineering. Considering that the wavelet packet transform (WPT) has the ability to clearly reflect the damage characteristics of structural response signals and the artificial neural network (ANN) is capable of learning in an unsupervised manner and of forming new classes when the structural exhibits change, this paper investigates a multi-stage structural damage diagnosis method by using the WPT and ANN based on "energy-damage" theory, in which, the wavelet packet component energies are first extracted to be damage sensitive feature and then adopted as input into an improved back propagation (BP) neural network model for damage diagnosis in a step by step mode. To validate the efficacy of the presented approach of the damage diagnosis, the benchmark structure of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is employed in the case study. The results of damage diagnosis indicate that the method herein is computationally efficient and is able to detect the existence of different damage patterns in the simulated experiment where minor, moderate and severe damages corresponds to involving in the loss of stiffness on braces or the removal bracing in various combinations.

  • Gas springs have been widely used in motor vehicles as well as in most areas of industry. Instead of coil springs, these gas springs are easily opreated to open(extension process) or close (compression process) the doors because $N_2$ gas with high pressure and oil are charged in tube. Most of manufacturers are using the trial & error method in order to decide its specification(reaction force, damping force), which tends to waste time and money. Therefore, gas springs have been improved by properly changing the control pressure of $N_2$ Gas with its mounting location and weight to maximize its effect and to minimize its space. Although it has been researched on damping structure to minimize impact which is applied to vehicle when its back door is fully opened, the characteristics of damping structure are not known clearly. There(ore, this paper will not only clearly define the effect of important factors(open & close force)for gas springs through theoretical analysis but also provide optimum design specification through development of program to avoid traditional method of specification determination such as the trail It error method which is widely used in whole industries including automotive industry.

  • We developed an improved 3-PM liquid scintillation counting (3-PM LSC) method in which three detectors can be displaced to back and forth directions, and a data acquisition system being able to provide the values for all parameters required for the method. The detectors are entirely located in a 20-mm lead chamber of an inner diameter of 500 mm. A saw-toothed gear ties up all detectors so as to move them uniformly, up to 50 mm with unit of 1 mm. The data acquisition system was designed in an integrated circuit to perform the necessary works such as fast amplification, discrimination, coincidence and logic analysis. It generates values of nine parameters among twelve's generated in the 3-PH LSC method. The dead time of each counting channel is of extending type, valving from 10 to 100 $mutextrm{s}$. We measured the TDCR values with an unquenched liquid scintillation source 1"C by displacing the detectors with a step of 2.5 mm away from counting vial. Their values were derived on the range from 0.9 to 0.6. The extent is three times wider than those regions observed by applying the defocalization technique.ique.

Aqueous Synthesis and Luminescent Characteristics of Cu:ZnSe Quantum Dots by Internal Doping Method (내부 도핑 법에 의한 Cu 도핑 Cu:ZnSe 양자점의 수계 합성 및 발광 특성)

  • Cu-doped ZnSe quantum dots were successfully synthesized in an aqueous solution using an internal doping method. The effects of ligand type, CuSe synthesis temperature, and heating time on Cu-doped ZnSe synthesis were systematically investigated. Of MPA, GSH, TGA, and NAC used as ligands, MPA was the optimal ligand as determined by PL spectrum analysis. In addition, the emission wavelength was found to depend on the synthesis temperature of the internal doping core of CuSe. As the temperature increased, the doping of Cu2+ was enhanced, and the emission wavelength band was redshifted; accordingly, the emission peaks moved from blue to green (up to 550 nm). Thus, the synthesis of Cu:ZnSe using internal doping in aqueous solutions is a potential method for ecomanufacturing of color-tuned ZnSe quantum dots for display applications.
