The interaction of turbulent mixed convection and surface radiation in a three-dimensional channel with the heated blocks is analyzed numerically. Two blocks are maintained at high temperature and the other bottom and horizontal walls are insulated. S-4 method is employed to calculate the effect of the radiative heat transfer. The low Reynolds number k-$\varepsilon$ model proposed by Launder and Sharma is used to estimate the turbulent influence on the heat transfer enhancement. From above modeling, the effects of various channel specifications on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are investigated. The variables used for the present study are Reynolds number, block spacing, the channel height spacing for block and the emissivity. Average Nusselt numbers along the block surfaces are correlated and presented in terms of Reynolds number, emissivity and dimensionless geometric parameters. For the range of conditions in this study, average Nusselt numbers along the block surfaces are strongly influenced by the Reynolds numbers and channel height spacing for block but weakly influenced by the block spacing and the emissivity of the adiabatic walls.
One of the typical evaluation models of concrete air-void system is spacing factor (SF), which was suggested by Power. Power Spacing Factor (PSF) has a disadvantage of the result being different from the actual case due to the existence of entrapped air, because PSF uses average single spacing factor. Therefore, the Actual Measurement Spacing Factor (AMSF) using actually measured data of air void spacing was developed from this study. PSF and AMSF were compared and evaluated in this study by using the image analysis test result of concrete mixture. This study results showed that PSF and AMSF are generally similar, but AMSF had a larger value when PSF was greater than $400{\mu}m$. The results indicated a possibility of PSF giving false measurement estimation where the measurement is less than the actual value in the concrete mixture containing less air. Also, in the result of PSF and AMSF analysis according to the existence of entrapped air, AMSF showed a larger value in the analysis without entrapped air. But PSF showed a smaller value in the analysis without entrapped air, which was different from the actual case. Because PSF used average single spacing factor, it tended to give a false result. The study results showed that AMSF gave more accurate analysis results.
This study was conducted to analyze the thermal behavior of a PHC energy pi1e system in saturated soil conditions, various seasonal and flow-speed conditions during 100 hours of operation through numerical analysis. The examination was a1so conducted with a single pile as well as with group pils. For the operation of 100 hours, the average heat exchange rate appeared 55 W/m, 47 W/m during winter and summer respectively. An increase in flow-speed was associated with a rise in the heat exchange rate. And thermal behavior analysis results during winter season show that thermal efficiency has increased when there are more free thermal planes. For the operation in group pile as 3D and 5D pile spacing (D: pile diameter), average heat exchange rate increased as pile spacing grows. Compared with the heat exchange rate of single pile, thermal exchange efficiency of group pile decreased by 89% (for 3D spacing) and 93% (for 5D spacing).
PURPOSES : The fundamental diagram provides basic information necessary in the analysis of traffic flow and highway operation. When traffic flow is congested, the density-flow points in the fundamental diagram are widely scattered and move in a stochastic manner. This paper investigates the pattern of density-flow point transitions and identifies car-following behaviors underlying the density-flow transitions. METHODS : From a microscopic analysis of 722 fundamental diagrams of NGSIM data, a total of 20 transition patterns of fundamental diagrams are identified. Prominent features of the transition patterns are explained by the behavior of the leader and follower. RESULTS : It is found out that the average speed and the speed difference between the leader and the follower critically determine the density-flow transition pattern. The density-flow path is very sensitive to the values of vehicle speed and spacing especially at low speed and high density such that most fluctuations in the fundamental diagram in the congested regime is due to the noise of speed and spacing variations. CONCLUSIONS : The result of this study suggests that the average speed, the speed difference between the leader and the follower, and the random variations of speed and spacing are dominant factors that explain the transition patterns of a fundamental diagram.
Crack formations are inevitable in reinforced concrete structures. To estimate crack widths, empirical formulae are used widely and indirect crack controling methods of limiting bar spacing and bar diameter are also used due to their simplicity. In EC2, the characteristic crack width is calculated by multiplying maximum crack spacing and average strain. In this study, limit values of maximum bar spacing and bar diameter are examined as the material characteristics are varied. Two models of tension stiffening effect and maximum crack spacing and their effects are evaluated. The obtained results are compared with the values obtained using KCI method. The results showed that a significant difference is found when two tension stiffening effect are employed, and an under-estimation is found when 2nd order tension stiffening effect and maximum crack spacing limit from Part II were implemented. Therefore, a rational indirect crack control method attained using the tension stiffening effect of 2nd order form is needed. Also, a consistency in serviceabiliy analysis in flexural members needs to be secured. In order to achieve these goals, two crack controling models are suggested.
The performance of two single-barrier three-phase actuated control systems at diamond interchanges was evaluated for various traffic conditions. To emulate the actuated signal control, hardware-in-the-loop system combined with CORSIM simulation program was used. Two performance measures, average delay and total stops, were used for the evaluation process. Results showed that the two three-phase systems gave similar performance in terms of average delay, but not stops. The delay performance of each phasing system was generally dependent on the traffic pattern and ramp spacing. The total stops decreased as the spacing increased, and it was the most sensitive variable that can differentiate between the two three-phase systems. It was also shown that the hardware-in-the-loop control could provide a good method to overcome the limitations of current simulation technology.

A breakdown voltage and breakdown electric field of the transformer insulating oil of liquid dielectric were studied in uniform electric field and non-uniform electric field and the transformer insulating oil was observed by the process reached breakdown. Insulation performance evaluation of the liquid dielectric was evaluated at the electrode spacing of 2.5 mm under the conditions of domestic and international standards (KS C IEC 60156), so a comparative review was conducted at the electrode spacing of 2.5 mm. When the electrode spacing is 2.5 mm, the average breakdown voltage is 38.5 kV for sphere-sphere electrodes, 26.6 kV for plate-plate electrodes, 22.9 kV for needle-needle electrodes, and 24.3 kV for sphere-needle electrodes. 23.7 kV for the sphere-plate electrode, and 20.7 kV for the needle-plate electrode. From these results, it can be seen that the average value of the breakdown voltage at the electrode spacing of 2.5 mm, in ascending order, is sphere-sphere, plate-plate, sphere-needle, sphere-plate, needle-needle and needle-plate. It was found that the breakdown voltage of the unequal field was lower than that of the equal field.
Stand Density Diagrams (SDD) are average stand-level models which graphically illustrate the relationship between yield, density and mortality throughout the various stages of forest development. These are useful tools for designing, displaying and evaluating alternative density regimes in even-aged forest ecosystems to achieve a desired future condition. This contribution presents an example of a SDD that has been constructed for teak forests of Karnataka in southern India. The relationship between stand density, dominant height, quadratic mean diameter, relative spacing and stand volume is represented in one graph. The relative spacing index was used to characterize the population density. Two equations were fitted simultaneously to the data collected from 27 sample plots measured annually for three years: one relates quadratic mean diameter with stand density and dominant height while the other relates total stand volume with quadratic mean diameter, stand density and dominant height.

The purpose of the research is to assess the accuracy of steel bar detector among other nondestructive testing equipment. The result of previous research shows that the average errors of rebar detector are 14.7% for the cover depth, 2.3% for the rebar spacing, and 11% for the rebar diameter. But this experiment was performed at the laboratory and the mortar was used for covering the steel bars instead of concrete. In situ condition can be different from the laboratory's so the outcomes do not correspond with those of laboratory. This research was performed at the buildings to be reconstructed. Nondestructive and destructive testing can be performed side by side since the building if to be destroyed. Steel bar detector was operated on the beam and the column and concrete cover of those members was removed for the actual measurement of rebar depth, spacing, and diameter finally, presumed value can be directly compared with actual data.
Field studies were conducted with kusabue variety and factorial design of 12 treatments composed of 3 levels, 10 kg, 15 kg and 20 kg of N per 10 a , and 4 levels of 80, 100, 120, and 140 hills per $3.3m^2$ plot in reclaimed slaty area having an average of 0.48% salt concentration. The law of spacing effect was observed in the increase of the number of stems at any application levels of N, and the increased N application exceeding 15 kg N per 10 a did not increase the number of stems in maximum tillering stages. The light recieving efficiency of plant population was greatly reduced by close planting when compared with the effect of increased N applications in heading stage. The spacing effect on the C/F ratio was not noted but was reduced markedly by the increased N applications, accordingly the spacing effect on rough rice yields to the LAI was less than by the increase N application. Closer spacing increased the number of panicle, and non-effective stems, decreased the number of grains per panicle and panicle weight. The increased N applications also increased the number of panicle, reduced the weight of 1,000 grains and the ratio of matured grains. It was recommended to plant 100 hills per $3.3m^2$ with the application of 15 kg N per 10 a in the reclaimed salty area of Korea.
