CGA 제조기법을 응용한 PVA 하이드로젤의 담체 특성 (Media Characteristics of PVA-derivative Hydrogels Using a CGA Technique)

  • We manufactured PVA-derived hydrogels using a foam generation technique that has been widely used to prepare colloidal gas aphrons(CGA). These gels were differentiated to the conventional gels such as for medical or pharmaceutical applications, which have tiny pores and some crystalline structure. Rather these should be used in de-pollution devices or adhesion of cells or biomolecules. The crosslinkers used in this work were amino acid, organic acid, sugars and lipids(vitamins). The structures of the gels were observed in a scanned electron microscope. Amino acids gels showed remarkably higher swelling ratios probably because their typical functional groups help constructing a highly crosslinked network along with hydrogen bonds. Boric acid and starch would catalyze dehydration while structuring to result in much lower water content and accordingly high gel content, leading to less elastic, hard gels. Bulky materials such as ascorbic acid or starch produced, in general, large pores in the matrices and also nicotinamide, having large hydrophobic patches was likely to enlarge pore size of its gels as well since the hydrophobicity would expel water molecules, thus leading to reduced swelling. Hydrophilicity(or hydrophobicity), functional groups which are involved in the reaction or physical linkage, and bulkiness of crosslinkers were found to be more critical to gel's cross linking structure and its density than molecular weights that seemed to be closely related to pore sizes. Microscopic observation revealed that pores were more or less homogeneous and their average sizes were $20{\mu}m$ for methionine, $10-15{\mu}m$ for citric acid, $50-70{\mu}m$ for L-ascorbic acid, $30-40{\mu}m$ for nicotinamide, and $70-80{\mu}m$ for starch. Also a sensory test showed that amino acid and glucose gels were more elastic meanwhile acid and nicotinamide gels turned out to be brittle or non-elastic at their high concentrations. The elasticity of a gel was reasonably correlated with its water content or swelling ratio. In addition, the PVA gel including 20% ascorbic acid showed fair ability of cell adherence as 0.257mg/g-hydrogel and completely degraded phenanthrene(10 mM) in 240 h.

Study on the Preparation and Characterization of Ophthalmic Polymer with High and Low-Water Content

  • This study was planned considering the chain length, hydrophilicity, and hydrophobicity of the additives to be used in the polymerization, while various ophthalmic lenses that use various additives with similar water contents were manufactured before their optical and physical properties were compared and analyzed. With regard to the additives required for manufacturing high-, medium-, and low-water content lens groups, HEA (hydroxyethyl acrylate), PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone), and NMV(N-methyl-N-vinylacetamide) were used as additives for preparing the high-water content lens group, HEMA(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), HPMA(hydroxypropyl methacrylate) and BD(1,4-butanediol) were used for the medium-water content lens group. For the low-water content lens group, BMA(buthyl methacrylate), BDDA(1,4-butanediol diacrylate), and Bis-GMA(bisphenol A glycerolate diacrylate) were used, respectively. The average water content of HEA was 40.14%; that of PVP, 39.63%; and that of NMV, 40.52%. The mean of water content was 35.92% for HEMA, 35.74% for BD, and 34.62% for HPMA. For the low-water content lens group, the mean of water content was 26.69% for BMA, 27.76% for BDDA, and 26.14% for Bis-GMA. With regard to the results of the water content measurement using a moisture analyzer, the average water content of the high-water content lens group was 41.34% for HEA, 42.62% for PVP, and 42.73% for NMV. Finally, for the low-water content lens group, the average water content was 28.62% for BMA, 28.82% for BDDA, and 28.32% for Bis-GMA. The measurements of the water contents of the lenses using the two methods showed that the water content and refractive index of the lenses were similar in all the lens groups. The measurements of the contact angles, however, showed a different wettability value for each lens with a similar water content. Also, the change tendency of the lens curvature according to the change of time showed that the change amount became larger and the recovery time became longer from the lens samples with a lower water content to those with a higher water content. Based on these results that will be helpful for the study of ophthalmic lenses.

폴리우레탄 아크릴레이트 하이브리드 에멀젼의 합성 및 경화특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Curing Characteristics and the Synthesis of Polyurethane Acrylate Hybrid Emulsion)

  • Methyl methacrylate (MMA), 2-hydroxy ethylmethacrylate (2-HEMA), n-butyl acrylate (n-BA) acrylic acid (AAc)를 아크릴레이트 단량체로 사용하고 친수성기인 카르복실 말단기를 갖는 수분산성 폴리우레탄을 시드로 하여 시드중합 방법을 이용한 폴리우레탄 아크릴레이트 하이브리드 에멀젼을 합성하였다. 합성된 혼성 에멀젼의 입자경과 폴리우레탄 수분산체의 입자경과 단독 아크릴레이트 에멀젼의 입자경 그리고 수분산 폴리우레탄과 아크릴레이트 에멀젼을 기계적으로 브랜드한 혼합물의 입자경을 입도 분석기를 이용하여 입자의 크기 및 분포를 측정하였고 하이브리드한 에멀젼은 기계적으로 브랜드한 에멀젼보다 평균입자경이 큰 것을 알 수 있었다 그리고 수분기 용매에 대한 팽윤을 비교 분석하였다. 또한 물리 화학적 물성을 개선하기 위하여 폴리우레탄 아크릴레이트 하이브리드 에멀젼에 멜라민 포름알데히드 경화제의 첨가에 따른 효과를 비교하였다.

Phenylvinylsulfone 유도체의 제초활성 (Herbicidal Activities of Phenylvinylsulfone Derivatives)

  • 벼(Oryza sativa L.)를 위시하여 논잡초인 피(Echinochloa crus-galli)와 물달개비(Monochoria vaginalis Presl)에 대한 phenylvinylsulfone유도체(S)들의 제초활성을 측정 한 바, 발아 전후에 벼(Oryza sativa L.)이외의 잡초에 대하여 현저하게 속효성이고 선택적인 제초활성을 나타내었다. (S)의 phenyl기에 X-치환기가 변화함에 따른, 구조와 제초활성과의 관계(SAR)를 양자 약리학적 방법으로 분석한 바, 피의 경우에는 ${\pi}$상수가 클수록(${\pi}$<0) 그리고 LUMO가 음의 값으로 증가할수록 제초활성이 증가 하였다. 한편, 물달개비의 경우에는 ${\pi}$상수의 적정값(optimal value)이 1.10이었으므로 이 값에 가까울수록 제초활성이 클 것이며 HOMO에 의존적임을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 X-치환기로 전자끌게가 치환됨으로써 ${\pi}$상수가 크고(${\pi}$<01.10) 음의 값으로 HOMO와 LUMO가 클수록 고활성을 나타낼 수 있는 화합물의 조건들에 대하여 검토되었으며 실험사실을 합리적으로 설명할 수 있는 제초활성 작용기작(mode of action)을 가정 하였다.

에어로졸 자기조립에 의한 실리카 나노분말의 표면개질 (Surface Modification Silica Nanoparticles by Aerosol Self Assembly)

  • Surface modification of silica nanoparticles was investigated using an aerosol self assembly. Stearic acid was used as surface treating agent. A two-fluid jet nozzle was employed to generate an aerosol of the colloidal suspension, which contained 20 nm of silica nanoparticles, surface modifier, and ethyl alcohol. Powder properties such as morphology, specific surface area and pore size distribution were analyzed by SEM, BET and BJH methods, respectively. Surface properties of the silica power were analyzed by FT-IR. The OH bond of the $SiO_2$ surface was converted to a C-H bond. It was revealed that the hydrophilic surface changed to a hydrophobic one due to the aerosol self assembly. Morphology of the surface treated powder was nanostructured with lots of pores having an average diameter of around $2\;{\mu}m$. Depending on the stearic acid concentration (0.25 to 1.0 wt%), the pore size distribution of the particles and the degree of hydrophobicity ranged from 1.5 nm to 180 nm and 29.6% to 50.2%, respectively.
