The common drive method of the single phase induction motor(SPIM) is to install a start capacitor and a centrifugal switch in series with the auxiliary winding. In this paper, the phase angle voltage sequence controller is proposed to eliminate a start capacitor and a centrifugal switch of SPIM. In comparison with the capacitor start system of SPIM, the proposed control system shows that it contributes to saving the starting current about 57% and to improving of the starting efficiency of SPIM. The proposed starting characteristics of the SPIM is obtained with this strategy through simulation and experimental results.
This paper describes the performance analysis and design of single-phase self-excited induction generators. In this study, it is proposed to design the proper capacitance for self-excitation and voltage regulation, also. This methods are based on the induced MMF equations between main and the auxiliary winding. For the least influence between the two capacitors, the self-excited capacitor is selected under no load condition, while the series capacitor is designed under loaded condition. For the steady state analysis, the equivalent circuit of single-phase induction generators is used as circuit modeling using the double-revolving field theory. The validity of proposal methods and designed generator system will be confirmed by experimental and computed results.
This study proposes an improved cell balancing circuit for fast equalization among lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. A simple voltage sensorless charge balancing circuit has been proposed in the past. This cell balancing circuit automatically transfers energy from high-to low-voltage battery cells. However, the circuit requires a switch with low on-resistance because the balancing speed is limited by the on-resistance of the switch. Balancing speed decreases as the voltage difference among the battery cells decrease. In this study, the balancing speed of the cell balancing circuit is enhanced by using the auxiliary circuit, which boosts the balancing current. The charging current is determined by the nominal battery cell voltage and thus, the balancing speed is almost constant despite the very small voltage differences among the batteries. Simulation results are provided to verify the validity of the proposed cell balancing circuit.
This paper presents an improved single-stage ac-dc LED-drive flyback converter using the transformer-coupled lossless (TCL) snubber. The proposed converter is derived from the integration of a full-bridge diode rectifier and a conventional flyback converter with a simple TCL snubber. The TCL snubber circuit is composed of only two diodes, a capacitor, and a transformer-coupled auxiliary winding. The TCL snubber limits the surge voltage of the switch and regenerates the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer. Also, the switch of the proposed converter is turned on at a minimum voltage using a formed resonant circuit. Thus, the proposed converter achieves high efficiency. The proposed converter utilizes only one general power factor correction (PFC) control IC as its controller and performs both PFC and output power regulation, simultaneously. Therefore, the proposed converter provides a simple structure and an economic implementation and achieves a high power factor without the need for any separate PFC circuit. In this paper, the operational principle of the proposed converter is explained in detail and the design guideline of the proposed converter is briefly shown. Experimental results for a 40-W prototype are shown to validate the performance of the proposed converter.
