Optimal Design of a Two-phase BLDC Motor Considering Efficiency and Torque Ripple

  • This paper introduces novel a two-phase permanent magnet BLDC (PMBLDC) motor with both an asymmetric tooth and an auxiliary tooth in order to improve the dead point, efficiency and torque ripple. To calculate the merits of introducing each of the asymmetric tooth and the auxiliary tooth, characteristic analysis is performed respectively using finite element method (FEM). To maximize performance, we propose a novel model which combines the asymmetric tooth and the auxiliary tooth. To maximize the efficiency of the novel model, an optimal design is processed using the Kriging method and a genetic algorithm. Finally, an experiment is used to confirm the initial and optimal design results.

  • This paper deals with the improvement of electrode installation for measurement of ground resistance through investigation on the spot in buildings. The investigation was carried out for an earthing terminal board for measurement of ground resistance, installation of auxiliary electrode, etc. The criteria value is set up by measuring method of ground resistance in international standard. In case of inadequate installation of auxiliary electrode, a relative error is analyzed and adequate installation method of auxiliary electrode is proposed. As a consequence, it is necessary to write direction of ground and equipment, and separate auxiliary electrode for measurement of ground resistance in order to minimize measuring error.

  • A capacitor common connected LLC resonant converter with auxiliary switches for a wide output voltage control range is presented in this paper. The proposed converter can be controlled in two ways to achieve a wide output voltage control range of Vo-3Vo. The first control method is performed through pulse width modulation of the auxiliary switches and primary switching devices. The second control method is conducted through frequency modulation of the primary switching devices configured to operate in full-bridge switching modes, when the auxiliary switches are turned off. The feasibility of the proposed converter is verified by the experimental results of a 5 kW prototype.

접지 그리드에서의 보조전극 배치에 따른 접지임피던스 측정 및 분석 (Measurement and Analysis of Ground Impedance according to Arrangement of Auxiliary Probe around Ground Grid)

  • This paper describes the measurement and analysis of ground impedance according to arrangement of auxiliary probe around ground grid using the fall-of-potential method and the testing techniques to minimize the measuring errors are proposed. The fall-of-potential method involves passing a current between a ground electrode and a current probe, and then measuring the voltage between a ground electrode and a potential probe. To minimize interelectrode influences due to mutual resistances, the current probe is a generally placed at a substantial distance from the ground electrode under test. In order to analyze the effects of ground impedance due to the arrangement of auxiliary probe and frequency, ground impedances were measured in case that the arrangements of auxiliary probe were straight line, perpendicular line, and horizontal line. The distance of current probe was located from 10[m] to 200[m] and the measuring frequency was ranged from 55[Hz] to 513[Hz]. As a consequence, the ground impedance increases with increasing the distance from the ground electrode to the point to be tested, but the ground impedance decreases with increasing the frequency.

  • This paper presents the optimal short-term operation scheduling by using fuzzy linear programming method on cogeneration systems connected with auxiliary equipments. Simulation is performed in case of the bottomming cycle. Modeling of cogeneration systems and auxiliary equipments is done, the effectiveness of modeling is evaluated through the detailed simulation. After the optimal operation scheduling is established by using linear programming method, the last optimal operation scheduling is established by using fuzzy linear programming method. The results of simulation show the auxiliary equipments can be effeciently operated in case of the bottomming cycle by modeling proposed in this paper.

  • This paper presents frequency modulation method of zero-voltage-transition interleaved DC/DC converter using auxiliary coupled-inductor. In conventional ZVT interlaved converter without semi-conductor devices in auxiliary circuit, the peak-to-peak value of coupled-inductor current has fixed value despite the change of load current. Then, as the load is reduced, the efficiency is reduced because of the conduction loss. The proposed frequency modulation method can reduce the conduction loss by controlling the current of coupled-inductor as the load condition using frequency modulation. The proposed method is verified by experimental results.

  • Power factor and harmonics are increasingly important for high speed train auxiliary block. This paper presents experimental results of the power factor and harmonic performance of two parallel PWM circuits under various supply and load conditions. For reducing harmonics the harmonic content is eliminated by the phase shift between two converters switching phase. Experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed method and applicability to PWM converter in auxiliary block of high speed train.

  • This paper proposed the resonant DC-DC converter with constant switching frequency. Its output is controlled by the auxiliary switch which is attached in conventional MRC circuits. The average output voltage is equal to the average voltage of the auxiliary switch. If the on time of the auxiliary switch is short, output voltage is decreased. Because of using the multi resonant method, the power loss from the parasitic elements can be decreased. Experimental performance of DF ZVS Forward MRC topology with switching frequency of 1MHz is presented.

  • This paper presents the optimal operation scheduling of the private cogeneration system connected with auxiliary equipments. And the optimal size of auxiliary equipments is determined through evaluations of the minimum operation cost. The optimal operation scheduling is established by using the linear programming method. Simulation results show that the auxiliary boiler is operated as an economical facility but the thermal storage tank is used as a back up facility for emergency.
