A New PWM DC/DC Converter with Isolated Dual Output Using Single Power Stage

  • This paper presents a new PWM DC/DC converter with dual output power using single power stage, which has the isolation characteristics between each dual output. The proposed converter topology consists of two switches ($S_B$ and $S_F$) and only single secondary winding. Therefore, the proposed converter has better advantages of not only low cost and small size but also high power density because of using minimum components and devices compared with conventional methods which use multi winding transformers or several converters. The operating principle of the proposed converter topology, which includes the conventional auxiliary ZVT (Zero-Voltage-Transition) circuit to implement soft switching of the main switch, is illustrated in detail and the validity of the proposed converter is verified through several simulated and experimental results.

소프트 스위칭 인버터의 새로운 회로구성과 그 성능 분석 (New Circuit Configuration of Soft Switching Inverter and Its Performance Analysis)

  • 본 논문에서는 3상 220V/5kVA 소프트스위칭 인버터의 새로운 회로구성을 제안하고 그 동작과 성능을 분석한 내용을 기술하고 있다. 제안하는 소프트스위칭 인버터는 ARCP(Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole) 인버터의 회로구성과 유사한 구조이나 이와 달리 LC 공진회로와 Diode 클램프 회로로 구성되어 있다. 이론적인 분석과 실험을 통해 제안하는 인버터의 효율을 분석하고 이를 하드스위칭 인버터와 비교하여 약 1% 정도의 효율 개선이 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 제안하는 인버터는 소프트 스위칭을 위해 소프트스위칭 보조회로와 게이트 드라이버가 추가로 장착되는 점에서 비용적인 경쟁력이 떨어질 수 있다. 그러나 최근 수요가 급증하고 있는 인버터에서 1% 효율 차이는 전력수급의 효율화를 통해 비용 측면에서 경쟁력을 갖을 것으로 판단된다. 또한 소프트스위칭 회로의 컴팩트화와 하드웨어의 최적화된 물리적 배치를 통해 추가의 효율증대가 가능할 것으로 보인다.

  • The low luminous efficacy is one of the major demerits of plasma display panel (PDP). In this work we propose the new driving method for high efficiency AC-PDP and analyze its discharge characteristics. The suggested method can control the effective capacitance of panel by external circuit. As a result of the new suggested method, the current becomes less and the discharge time becomes long, because of voltage distribution between panel and auxiliary capacitor. So this method can decrease the power consumption much more than that of the conventional driving method.

  • A regenerative signal amplifying gate driver of self-excited electronic ballast is presented. It can be used for high pressure sodium (HPS) lamp without auxiliary external ignitor. Since the HPS lamp requires very high ignition voltage at start up, the resonant frequency of the circuit must be increased to obtain high voltage oscillations in spite of relatively small resonant current. The presented gate driver amplifies the current of gate drive transformer and raises the gate-source voltage Quickly to turn on the MOSFET switches. Hence, the resonant frequency can be increased more than 100kHz. The HPS lamp used in the simulation and experiment has the rating of 400W input power at 220V input ac voltage source. The experiments show that the resonant frequency is above 150kHz at start up.

  • The continuing need for more compact and reliable switching power supplies have aroused a renewed interest in a well founded control technique the Magnetic Amplifier(Magamp). Magamp have some advantages of higher power density, simple control circuit, good regulation, high frequency and high performance. The control method with magamp become attractive solutions for high current post regulated output applications. In this study, it is proposed that the magamp technique in flyback converters with multiple output windings. Operation principle of the proposed approach is described and design guidelines are provided. Experimental verifications on 50W multiple output flyback converter are conducted. Simulations and experimental results show that the proposed approach is high efficiency and voltage regulation of the auxiliary output is excellent.

  • This paper presents the interleaved active-clamping ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching) forward converter, which is mainly composed of two active-clamping forward converters. Only two switches are required, and each one is the auxiliary switch for the other. The circuit complexity and cost are thus reduced. The leakage inductance of the transformer or an additional resonant inductance is employed to achieve ZVS during the dead times. The duty cycles are not limited to be equal and within 50%. The complementary switching and the resulted interleaved output inductor currents diminish the current ripple in output capacitors. Accordingly, the smaller output chokes and capacitors lower the converter volume and increase the power density. Detailed analysis and design of this new interleaved active-clamping forward converter are described.

  • This paper presents soft-switching boost converter adding to auxiliary switch and resonant circuit in conventional boost converter. This approach features a two power stage which implements both conventional BLDC motor speed control and input power factor correction. This converter is especially useful in application such as home appliance. Theoretical analysis and simulation results are presented.

  • According to 2013 fire statistical yearbook in the National Emergency Management Agency, the main cause of an electrical fire are classified to short circuit fault, overload fault, electric leakage, partial disconnection, and joint/contact badness. The occurrence factor of fire is electric arc or spark accompanied with electrical faults. Residual Current Protective Devices(RCDs) of high sensitivity type used at single phase (220V) cut off earth leakage and overload but the RCDs can not cut off electric arc or spark to be a main cause of electrical fire. To be improved on such problem, this thesis is proposed to a auxiliary control device for RCD cut off electric arc or spark.

  • 본 논문에서는 LLC 공진형 컨버터에 공진 회로를 추가함으로써 높은 자화 인덕턴스를 가지고 전원장치의 hold-up 동작 시 전압 이득 보상을 해주는 회로를 제안한다. 제안된 컨버터는 높은 자화 인덕턴스로 인해 1차측 도통 손실을 감소시킬 수 있으며, 공진회로를 통해 특정 주파수에서 높은 전압 이득을 얻을 수 있어 hold-up 조건을 만족 시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 제안하는 회로의 동작을 이론적으로 해석하고 적절한 설계방법을 제시하여 실험결과를 통해 회로의 동작을 검증한다.

  • This paper has introduces a novel Integrated On-board Charger (IOBC) to reduce the size, weight and cost of power conversion stages in Electric Vehicles (EVs). The IOBC is composed of an OBC and a low voltage dc-dc converter (LDC). The IOBC includes a bidirectional ac-dc converter and a bidirectional full-bridge converter with an active clamp circuit. The LDC converter is a hybrid topology combining an active clamped full-bridge converter and a forward converter derived from the Weinburg converter topology. Unlike conventional OBC, the proposed IOBC is compact and the LDC converter of it can achieve a higher efficiency. In addition, the LDC converter of the proposed IOBC can achieve high step-down voltage conversion ratio, no circulating current, no reverse recovery current of the rectifier diodes and small ripple current of output inductor on the auxiliary battery. A 1kW hardware of the LDC converter is implemented to verify the performances of the proposed IOBC.
